  1. Pulling in means that the head changes shape slightly over time and develops a slight lip, normally on the exhaust valve side. Its an indication of heat normally. Once the shape of the thing changes obviously things aren't where they are meant to be and you can get valve problems and other issues. If things change shape then the through bolts aren't clamping properly and things start to break. I dont think a leak down would show it up unless it had pulled in enough to cause a valve to not close properly. The focus of our argument here is that this aeroplane never showed signs of over temp, it was always a cool runner. Out of all the jabs we have had online this one was by far the 'coolest' running of them all, as far as indications go.

  6. On the step approaches are the answer in many types, but from an ab initio point of view probably not a 'standard' approach technique. And certainly not with a jab engine
  7. Its not hard to land. At all, but a lot of pilots do carry too much speed onto the ground with it and the roll out gets exiting.
  8. Yes if you read the posts, the motor was overhauled by the factory after the last failure. Hence our disappointment in the quality of the job.

  10. You have to get him slow . Don't let it land till it's got no flying left . If you skateboard a 230 on you will be dancing like Fred estare!! At least keep the nose wheel up until The elevator runs out of puff.!! The nose wheel steering is direct and will get squirmy.

  13. Just fly the plane. The door isnt going to cause you any problems, other than some extra noise. What has killed people is diking around with the door when they should be just flying the thing. Hardly worth a prec landing, but, PIC made a decision and carried it out. Good on him.

  16. Probably some truth in that Frank. I believe Im more than qualified to express a reasonably accurate opinion on the reliability and factory support of these engines, having operated multiple acft, multiple types, in multiple schools in multiple locations around NSW and QLD. Im not just a scorned Owner of ONE jab, or someone whos listens to hype and regurgitates it. Im speaking from years of experience running these things in the training environment. Not one aircraft, not one model. ALL models. This particular aircraft has NEVER over heated. It has NEVER run hot. Its always ran quite cool. Yes, tensioning the heads is in the service schedule (unlike every other 4 stroke engine known to man kind, this one needs its heads checked at regular intervals...Interesting??) This aircraft was running fine until Jab forced us to change the head bolts..Then it shat due to THE WRONG PARTS BEING SUPPLIED BY THE FACTORY. All other problems have stemmed from that stuff up... No warranty, not even so much as an appology.. Just, suck it up... Im sick of hearing " i know plenty of owners who havnt had a problem" as some sort of argument..Its exactly how it should be,, We should NOT be having these problems at all. And yet, we are.. I did some rough maths the other day. My school has ran 9 Jabs over 6 years J230, J170, J160, Lsa55 More than 6000 hours, all jabs combined 3 separate locations, two states 5 different engineers I reckon Ive got an "informed" opinion hey?

  18. yea, and yet...quote " theres nothing wrong with our engines"... ( We just wont warrant them, or our workmanship.) But we swear, theres nothing wrong.....
  19. As expected. No help offered form the factory. They only warrant the top ends for 100 hours. What an awesome company this is, what fantastic service they provide. 100 hours.. No Rod, theres nothing wrong with your engines..They are brilliant, I spose thats why you stand by them, and put your money where your mouth is hey? 100 hours? I get better from chinese vibrating flesh lite. Full brief being prepared for CASA and RAA now. All records have been meticulously recorded re the maintenance of this engine . Consumer affairs will be the next step. Call me what you like, but this company has had its day, they have had every chance to fix this bloody engine..Now, its on like donkey kong. Anyone in the market for a boar ancor? Buckets of Sh.......
  20. Yes DS. The front stud failed 330 hours ago, less than 30 hours post the AD (larger nuts) being carried out. Jab copped to that one stating they sent the wrong nuts which lead to the failure. The engine was returned to the factory for the top end overhaul. 200 ish hours later the fly wheel "screws" failed. The lady that owns this aircraft has no option now. She can only push it to the back of the hangar and let it rot. She is out of funds. This aeroplane has sent her backwards and is now no longer a viable option for her. Theres no way Jab will warrant anything out of the 200 hours, and even if they would, they would no doubt blame her, or me or the last L2 to change a spark plug. She cant sell it either because nobody will buy a Jab these days, let alone one with a dead engine. I feel for her, she bought into the dream, believed the hype...And got stung... Buyer beware!!!
  21. Another through bolt failure on the 170. Found it today after a pilot reported rough running during a run up. 330 HRS since factory top end. 120 Hours post fly wheel retaining stud failure. Head shows signs of "pulling in" Total time on engine 1180 hrs We are preparing the defect reports for CASA and the RAA. Along with complaints to consumer affairs re the sh!t workmanship during the rebuild. Im done with these .... Things....

  24. Just a shot in the dark here, but I'm in temora in a piper lance and I'm down a headset. I have a pax who is using ear plugs to stop the noise but communication would be really nice. Is there anyone at temora who might have a headset I could borrow ( or buy) ? I'm leaving early tomorrow ( Thursday) for broken hill. Odds aren't good in know but worth a try. Cheers
  25. Rv6's and 7's are fantastic little aeroplanes. And with the RPL now, a very viable option for some of us. The thing to consider is that they are NOT light and fluffy designs. They are designed for speed and manoeuvrability, to give the classic RV grin! They will bite harder then a sportstar or a Jabiru if flown "off spec". The last one I flew cruised ver comfortably at 165 IAS and was certainly a "lively" feeling aeroplane.
