  1. Question for Tomo Tomo, Q:What do little boys who tell lies grow up to be? A:Weather forecasters. Mark.
  2. I'm ashamed to say that I have never ever used an emoticon. 3. Howdy Richo, Hope to see you at Echuca. Mark
  4. Tomo, The long range forecast is as accurate as a two bob watch. If they cannot tell you what is going to happen tomorrow what are the odds of getting it right a month out? Stay positive! Mark D
  5. Fairly ordinary Eight for sure and one maybe. Do the people on this forum fly planes? Mark

    More leg room

Kenny, I shortened the tie rod ends to their minimum using the available thread. (This is a pain as Mr ICP was too cheap to fit left and right hand threads to the rods.) Perhaps picked up an extra inch or two. No problem with the brakes at all. Was quite a noticeable difference when I flew the mate's Savvy that was left long. But....you have one of the best Savvy men right there in Kilcoy, why not ask JG? Good luck. If you come up with a really good idea please let us all know. Mark D.
  7. I have worked in Petrol Stations as a kid, pubs as a young adult and now operate a business selling and servicing mechanical goods. It never ever ever ceases to amaze me how a small percentage of the public can always top the last disgustingly piece of bad behaviour you believed was untoppable with a new record holder. To these pieces of :censored:who feel it is their right to treat fellow human beings in this manner I say look out - there is always someone who will sort you out and every dog has his day. Not good enough. Mark D
  8. Travis - VSX4 in 912 Travis, We have been using VSX4 and have found it to be very good. One engine at 600 hrs and no problems at all. I do realise that this is a far cry from 3850 hours but we are working on it. We are a Honda motorcycle dealership and have used VSX4 in all manner of hard working engines with good results. Did try Aeroshell but could only get it at certain outlets so went back to VSX4. Also the place we could buy Aeroshell only sold it in 1 ltr bottles - what's the idea there? I have no allegiance with any oil company in fact they are possibly the most difficult to deal with, always changing the product, the name, the packaging and the prices. Mark D
  9. Are you telling me I have to take my rego card, put it in a clear plastic envelope and stick it onto the left hand side of my windscreen? I'll have to have a lie down after all that. Mark D
  10. Geoff, You are right about Narromine. I have been to the last two Natflies and as we camped under wing and had our choice of two great dining rooms (and bars) we never left the airfield. Because Temora is so handy for us and we didn't know if we were allowed to camp with our planes we decided to book accommodation in town. Couldn't do this in Narromine as if the weather prevented flying we would have forfeited our dough - Temora we will drive if the weather lets us down. Once we see the set up we can then decide the best thing for the future. Whatever we do it will be a great weekend if the Temora hospitality we experienced at a flying weekend is anything to go by. Mark D PS Thanks Carol!
  11. Dear Carol, Thanks for the information. As a Rotax owner I am very interested in the mogas situation. Do we need to have our own fuel containers or will the RAA tent supply them as they did in Narromine or will the ute have them for us? A few of us pondered this problem last year and we wondered if an organisation like the local scouts would like to run people in and out for a donation. It would be a nice way to make a bob and to be involved in Natfly. Scouting has a strong affinity with flying as I'm sure you know. Tried to suggest something like this to the RAA man in the tent last year but was met with a resistance that struck us as quite strange. Also Carol, if containers can be supplied (hired) could steps and funnels be available too? I think most people would be happy to make a donation for the peace of mind. Looking forward to seeing you again in April. Mark D

Congratulations! Ron, Great news and well done. You have achieved something very special! See you both soon. Regards, Mark D
  14. I was thinking of starting a fund to help me pay my insurance but I don't want to be disappointed too. Mark D

Red, Shot out to the Tonny Aviation and Aircraft Service Centre Complex to check out my set up. It is amazing how the memory suffers as we get on. Looking at my fittings didn't bring the memories flooding back as I hoped. It appears I fitted oversize tubing over the sight tube, enlarged the holes through the rib and clamped both to the fuel tank fitting. The larger tubing protects the sight tube and gives the whole shooting match much more bearing surface for the clamp to do it's thing. Don't recall the thinking process behind all this but it is as tight as a drum and I suppose the proof of the pudding............ Maybe I'm cleverer than I thought! (doubt it though) Hope this helps. Mark D
  16. Before I get into strife I will say that Easter is not a problem for me. That said I was wondering if it would be better to hold Natfly away from the Easter break? Our aircraft do not hold the whole family and Easter is traditionally a family time. Most people could arrange a Friday and Monday off given enough notice to turn an ordinary weekend into the required time. I first began thinking of this when several people I spoke to told me they could not make Natfly because of family Easter commitments and one friend whose business relies on trading over Easter. Is there a reason it is held then or just that it has always been held over Easter? Your thoughts. Mark D
  17. Easy there Tomo, didn't your mother teach you if you can't say something nice...? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Then again I love VW beetles so what does that tell you? Mark D

    Sight tube

I fitted mine as per the manual and have had no leaks in 145 hrs flying (seventeen months) BTW I left the carpet covers off the wing roots (they were pre cut for slatted leading edge not the VG model) and am glad I did. It is easy to look in and see the fuel level in the opaque tanks from the pilot seat. Only problem I have experienced is the O ring on the fuel check valve letting go and dumping full tanks onto the ground while hangared. Perhaps replace this with a better quality one from the off. ($1.50) If I were to build another I would fit the fuel tank cover skins with good quality rivnuts so I could easily get in there and inspect/tighten everything each 50 hour service. Mark D PS Come to think of it maybe I did use two differing diameters of tubing. I will check it out and get back to you Redair.
  19. Good luck Peter. Hope you enjoy the build. Have a good read of Ron Hoey's thread re building tips.
  20. Good on you Grant. Tell us more about your Savannah.
