  1. Hi, You may find your original drivers are up to two years old, that is why it is good to update via the internet. If it worked before have you tried to reinstall all the motherboard drivers too? Bob.
  2. Hi flying Dog, I had a similar problem, it appeared when i updated the drivers for the motherboard the old drivers did not delete so it was running on the old drivers not the new, once the old drivers were deleted problem fixed. however it happened again about 6 months later and this time it was the motherboard fault. Had the same issue with the stick and on mine it was a stick fault not the computer. Hope this is a help. Bob.
  3. Hi john, I am one of those my rego went in to CASA Yesterday. Not sure about the X-Air yet, just wait and see I guess. I am booked in for my class 2 medical tomorrow and AFT in 2 weeks at Bankstown, just to cover all bases and a refreasher. My last time into controlled airspace was nearly 20 years ago, time flys when you are having fun - where did the years go??? Bob.
  4. Hi Vorticity, how the "system" has changed, when i joined i guess i had a leg in the door already, or so i thought, those who did the full course all ways appeared to get the promotions just that little sooner even though others of us had had the seniority in rank? Still i guess we had the "rush" of carrier landings. Bob.
  5. Hi, Wow HEON, makes me feel old, RAN class of 1966, we did not have ADFA then, I joined with a degree and CPL and did the "knife and fork" course at HMAS Creswell. The RAN failed pilots have on the most part been sent to small ships as navigators/stores officers and the like,as the return of service obligation, the old thing, the smaller the ship the junior the ships officers standing and the lower the promotions chances. The return for service was up to a few years ago one year service for each year of training plus 20% of total time up to a maximum of 6 years. Bob.
  6. Hi, the issue with us RAN guys was taking on any and all jobs to keep up the hours(was a minimum of 20 hours per month) so you got your extra flight pay. It was fun watching 3 or 4 junior pilots fighting over a test flight and the CO walks in and takes it anyway, ha, ha. Bob.
  7. Hi Shags j, it is common basic training for all the services, that is they all go to the same course, if you want Army you go to Army recruiting and do the tests, if you pass them and get through all the other screenings then off you go, so there will be new/prospective pilots from all three forces doing this training (ADFA plus basic flying) then after that are split up to do specalist training dependent on the ADFA marks and flying abilities. Hope that helps. Bob.
  8. Hi, No still can not open???? Tried Versions 8,9 & 10.1 of winzip, no joy. Tried a computer with XP Pro and Vista no joy??? Bob.
  9. Hi, I had one like that a few years ago, according to the log book it was two issues, the first was the rubber/plastic tube between the carbies and the inlet manifold had a crack under and just byond the inlet manifold clamp(running lean at start up) and the ingnition unit was failing under load. Bob.
  10. got it to work,it downloaded to me in UNIX, so did the conversion and winziped it now it works fine, flight planner does not though???? Bob.
  11. no, winzip said it was an invalid archive file at least it did not say it was an corrupt file??? Bob.
  12. Hi, Picture this, the middle of winter at Nowra 1975, horizontal rain and as cold as. night flying had ended and it was about 0230, we had six hours of maintenance to do on the Wessex 31B's when a call came through for SAR. A woman had fallen and broken her leg, was expecting and an ambulance could not reach her as she was on a yacht 2 kms out to sea. Roll out a helo, spread the blades and power up, only one doctor and one aircrew left so three of us were "volunteered" to go too. Before arrival the yacht had made it to a fishing wharf but the ambo's wanted us to fly her to hospital asap. We landed to find out she was over 200kgs; in labor and had the left leg broken in two places. We had to use two stretchers one turned upside down to carry her weight and it took all of us, aircrew(4),2 pilots and the four ambo's to get her into the Wessex(the doctor supervised???). We then flew back to Nowra (HMAS Albatross) where our little forklift waited, unloaded her (done this before)and got her into the ambulance to go to the local hospital, oh yes she had a girl in the chopper, both well but all of us were exhausted and the maintenance crew we left behind cleaned out the Wessex it took a good couple of hours but smelt for weeks. for about a year we called that chopper "the baby carriage". One of a few good stories. Bob.
  13. Hi, It sort of looks like the case/cage of a roller bearing??? Bob.
  14. Hi Ian, thanks, sounds like you are busier than an octopus with ten hot pies! Bob.
  15. Hi, I have tried on two different computers one with XP Pro and one with vista and winzip 8 and version 12 and both give an unrecoverable zip file error??? Bob.
  16. Hi, I got the same error too???????? Bob.
  17. Hi Tracktop, I did that and still get a header error, i tried downloading the file about six times and all had the same errors, the only thing i can think of is i have a hardware firewall fitted here and that maybe causing the issue, although i have downloaded before without a problem so not sure????? might leave it for a bit as clearing the shed has priority now ready for the start of building an X-air. bob.
  18. Hi Phil, I had the same issue and it was a mobile phone causing it, my fix was an anti-static bag used to pack computer stuff placed above the compass unit to block/reduce phone signals but still allow air to circulate. Bob.
  19. Hi flying dog, the file keeps coming up as a corrupt header, tried RAR and Winzip both give same result????? Yes will be at The Oaks in a couple of weeks, you will recognise me, I,m the one with the spade to get out of the hole when i land, ha,ha. Have been busy getting my left foot fixed and clearing out my shed to build an X-Air in. Bob.
  20. Hi flying Dog, I am having issues downloading your file???? It wants to download it as a RAR type file, my Excel will not recognize it as a down loadable file any ideas??? Bob.
  21. Oh, I was told he was a parking ranger:laugh::big_grin::big_grin: most dangerous job except for meter maids maybe????? Bob.
  22. Hi, I would have to agree with Sam and Dave about the Gazelle but for me the first aircraft in a long time that suits my needs at this moment is the X-Air. Many years ago i dived in the deep end and paid for that, more maintenance and higher costs than actual flying costs until i built a VP-1 and had 11 years of most excellent flying with only manageable routine maintenance and flying costs. I think it is a balancing act, planning the most appropriate aircraft for you, what you can afford in time and money to maintain not only the aircraft, your skills, other outgoings like insurance, when you brake it down to cost per hour some aircraft types would surprise you with the costs. Someone on this site did the breakdown of cost per hour for a Jab last year or the year before some time, a real eye opener and i have used that style as part of my evaluation of aircraft types.. Bob.
  23. Hi, if i see another aircraft like described i make a point of saying "turning final second and behind XXXX" that way there is no doubt or at least should not be doubt where i am and what i am doing to all in the circuit or local area. I think this instructor is being a little harsh. Maybe he could take you for a flight to show you, knowing and doing is to better understand. Bob.
  24. Hi Ozzie, Thanks for the walk down memory lane, I was at Stanwell 77/78, I too had the xy but a p/van as i had the bread run, most of the guys knew me as baker bob. Still get heart burn remebering the hamburgers from the beach fish and chip shop! Bob.
  25. Well done Ian. Great site and a very good bunch of members too. Bob.
