  1. Hi guys I'm not sure, I'll definately be attending as many events as possible this year. Any QLD & Nth'n NSW for sure. I am going to the Southport Valentines BBQ breakfast on the 14th Feb. Alternately, anyone is welcome at Heck Field to take a look.
  2. Hi all, I'm thinking about a project in conjunction with Garry at MAW. A Sierra Viking or Sierra 80hp Rotax combo. Aircraft will be finished to my high standard and if you saw my plane at Evan Head recently, you'll understand. Avionic will be standard 6 pack style, radio with ptt, dual stick, upgraded brakes (dual rudder control), lockable tinted canopy, adjustable rudder pedals, winglets, strobe Nav lights, 100lt fuel on board, leather interior, high quality paint job and a design that will turn heads. No transponder Finish time around June 2015, fixed price $84,000 (Viking option) TBC. Msg me if you find this of interest. Jamie
  3. I've flown it a few times from Brisbane. The only real mountain goat country is around the Gold Coast Hinterland, the rest is a breeze. If you've got plenty of time and aren't on a timeline, then coastal is the scenic 'flat' route. Good luck
  4. Hi all, it's just a optical illusion because of the camera position and wide angle. This mornings speed had just hit 60knts at rotation.
  5. Another video with better camera audio.
  6. Flying should not just be for old geezers and the elite. New blood generates new ideas and competitiveness. That's great for any industry! Affordability and reliability is what everyone should be looking for in an aircraft and engine regard of anyone's 'OLD SCHOOL' opinions.
  7. I'm not sure if everyone has seen this or not in regards to a price drop in the Viking 110 and the new Viking 135. The 135 looks sweet! Viking 110 now $9,995 USD Viking 135 intro price $19,995 USD (Testing March 2015 - Due for release January 2016) RRP $24,995 USD http://www.vikingaircraftengines.com/# At $10k USD it's hard for the Viking not to be considered on your engine shopping list.....
  8. Bang on with that approach...bloody shocker. Normally 60-65kts but I was pushing 70. I still haven't got runway 36 at heck field down to a fine art. The hill/cemetery at the end of the runaway is deceptive!
  9. Video with engine sound, rattle from camera mount. After 35hrs specs as follows. Fuel burn @ fast cruise: 20-21lts per hour 110-115kts Fuel burn @ Econ cruise: 17-18ltrs per hour 100kts Engine temps all in the green, except oil temp which is too cool No problems with engine so far. Have complete 2 cross countries and flown up to 8000.
  10. Video with engine sound...rattle from camera mount
  11. Planning to be there at least one of the days
  12. Definitely at some fly-ins in the new year.
  13. Hi All, my Cougar is now fully registered and home at Heck Field at Jacobs Well in Brisbane. Arrived Sunday 30th Nov, 2014. 2hrs 15mins flight time at 110kt cruise. 250nm, Heading 359 up the coast with 11kt winds from 70
  14. I wouldn't call Queen crap but I had an audio issue with my gopro and radio talking to each other.
  15. Yes Taree guys. All flight testing was done their so I had access to the factory and their expertise. Here's the details so far but I expect a few to change. 1. Engine ran very well with no major issues at all. All temps were below normal range - too much cooling. Coolant temp was running towards max one day at low altitude BUT it was 39 degrees. 2. Cruise is looking like 120kts 3. Econ cruise is 100kts at around 12lts per hour 4. Fuel burn during testing was around 15-17lts per hour 5. We had very high cross winds during testing and the plane performed beautiful
  16. Engine is running sweet! Day 2 flight testing complete. All tweaks to the airframe complete. We're looking at cruise speeds between 120-130kts. Heavy crosswinds today and landing was uneventful. VIDEO COMING
  17. Cougar/Viking FINISHED! Was flying yesterday
  18. Good news, all the best mate!
  19. That will be EP03 next month...stay tuned.
  20. There's haters in the world and nothing will change there minds...and even when challenged as I did a few comments ago they just ignore it and keep on keeping on. Experimental....the word which keeps our aircraft aloft and so was the wright bros. Just wait until they see my panel and electrical video....the haters heads will explode
  21. Correct, the buyer decides. Everyone has an opinion and everyone's situation is different. I made this video because there are people out there like myself (in the beginning) who are unsure about parting with their money in anything other than an experimental engine. What I did learn during the process... Pick up the phone and talk to people, and the first call is the manufacturer. Put them through the wringer and finally ask them for client references. You'll get a much better picture and make a more informed decision for your situation. I negotiate big $$ deals for a living and so far, I've found the engine good value for money. I hope my journey helps others. Jamie
  22. Yep no prob, I purchased the following. I don't have the invoice in front of me to double check the prices. 1. Viking View engine monitor. Simple plug and play with the engine, no stuffing around with programming. It's a GRT product re badged and pre programmed for Viking. I called GRT and spoke to them in depth prior to my purchased and in the end, my glass panel is a GRT sport SX purely because I wanted to stay within the GRT family for ease of connect-ability. 2. Viking wiring bus. Viking no longer make this product in favour of a traditional wiring setup. I didn't want to add roughly 50hrs to the build so I opted for their bus to save time. In a future episode on my YouTube channel, I'll talk about my Motec PDM that I'm using as my 2nd power bus in the aircraft. Again I spend time on the phone with Motec Australia and these unit are bloody fantastic but very expensive. 3. The Viking Grab bag Not a necessary purchase but I figured, get the right tools for the job. The bag has everything to finish off the job. Hope this helps. Jamie
