  1. Undoubtedly a work of flying art and a very well setup reproduction of this 1930s airliner. Worth watching the engine start sequence alone ! Flown by Joachim Damrath, this Handley Page 42 oozes style and elegance as it cruises around the sky at the Airliner Treffen Show. At 1/10th scale the Wing span / wingspan is 3.96 metres and length is 2.8 metres. A fantastic and unique flying aircraft of a bygone era of airliner passenger travel.
  2. At 1:6 scale and 18 feet wingspan these are certainly giant scale RC aircraft. Each Lanc is powered by four Zenoah 38 engines. Flown by Steve and Andy at Weston Park International Model Show.
  3. Not just jets at Airliner Treffen. Some very nice fixed wing passenger type aircraft were displayed. Here Ralph and Wolfgang fly their scratch built Beech-18s. I don't think they had flown together before but they did an awesome display for the attending crowd ! Scale: 1:4 Wingspan: 3.6 metres Length: 2.58 metres Weight: 23.8 kg Engines: 2 x ZG 45cc
  4. Owned and built by Keith Mitchell, this model took 5 years of combined design and construction. Its initial flights were taken under the Large Model Association scheme (approved by the CAA) for model aircraft over 80KG. It underwent 12 test flights for combined flight time of more than 2 hours to get it's LMA\CAA certificate to fly at public shows. A rarely modelled scale radio controlled aircraft in an amazing scheme applied by the master, Philip Noel of Pinnacle Aviation. Specifications of this fantastic model. Wingspan: 21 Feet Length: 19 Feet Weight: 220 Lbs Engines: 4 x ZDZ 90cc petrol Props: 4 x 28 x 10 Biela Carbon Radio: Futaba 14 Channel Servos: 22 (13 channels for ailerons, elevator, rudder, flaps, throttle x 4, landing gear and lights)

  5. Probably the best example you will see of flutter on an aircraft. Ramy's first flight at Airliner Treffen Show nearly ends in disaster when the push rod on the rudder becomes lose and the flutter destroys the lower part of the rudder. Added to that a bad hinge on an aileron results in flutter of the left wing. It all could have gone very badly wrong...
  6. Our annual treat at seeing Dave Johnson's huge Avro Vulcan, powered by four gas turbine engines, flown at RAF Cosford. This year flown in formation with the equally large Victor flown by his son, Andy.

  7. Probably the best demonstration I have seen of Gunter Zielke's unique and innovative electronic smoke system. This also shows off the G-force initiation of the smoke system as the pilot performs some high speed aerobatics.
  8. 14 pilots put up their rides for a combined prop hang for a Show record! Even with their prop hanging skills this was no easy feat. Avoiding all the other RC aircraft was challenging and there was at least one near miss. Unfortunately there was one crash at the end. One adventurous pilot tries to fly through the ring of fire and catches his wing ending in total destruction of the model.
  9. This Lockheed L-1011 Tristar would have been perfect by itself but when his son used the RC tug/tractor to pull it out to the runway...and pull it back to the pits...
  10. Twin turbine powered Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird scorches down the strip at Airliner Treffen. Flown to perfection by Matthias Blaß with his father Walter, the builder of this jet, assisting on the flight line.
  11. Seriously, this guy has zero respect for the laws of physics! Any other RC pilot understands the basic concepts of gravity and lift and turbulence etc and stays within them...but not Jase. He just ignores those limitations and puts his airframe through unreal torture...all for the appreciation of the crowd at Weston Park International Model Show. Breathtaking stuff ! Jase is flying an Extreme Flight R/C Slick 580 powered by a Desert Aircraft DA120.
  12. This was something you would very rarely see, if ever ! Three magnificent large scale twin turbine powered Concordes. Built to perfection, featuring smoke and nose droop...and all flown expertly in close formation.
  13. Master aeromodeller, Ramy, flies his EDF Boeing 777-9X for the big crowd at Airliner Treffen in Germany. Spectacular ! Scale:
  14. From experience it's all about minimising blinking and not looking away when they are this fast.
  15. "IT's TORTUGA TIME !" That's what we heard as our Italian friends from SAB Avio bungee and hand launched their Tortugas into the air to give a hot demonstration of the speed of the new Tortuga from SAB Avio. TORTUGA is a Full sandwich Fiber glass / Airex Fuselage (made under vacuum). - Super rigid, ready for High speed. - All parts are already painted. - Horns are already mounted. - Super-fast assembly, in 2 hours the model is ready to fly. Specification: Wingspan: 84 cm Length: 81 cm Weight RTF: 1.55 KG Wing area: 2400 cm2 Recommended setup: Channels: 4 2 x mini wing servos 30 x 10 x 30 mm 1 x micro servo 12 x 23 mm Flight battery: 6S — 2600 / 3200 mAh Motor: 2200 kV, 28-36mm ESC: 100-120A-ESC, Propellor: 5x5 Max motor size: 36mm diameter Max motor weight: 150 grams Battery Compartment: 55x45x200 mm
  16. Very unique and distinctive new RC jet aircraft designs from SAB Avio. You would think the Havok was inspired by Star Trek's Klingon Bird of Prey spaceship. Amazing aerobatic capability in the hands of the right pilots...and these guys were the right pilots. Filmed at Weston Park International Model Show near Telford, UK.
  17. In all my years of filming RC I have not seen an RC Gloster Javelin flying before so it was fantastic to see Joe's new turbine powered version of this jet at the North London Model Flying Club Scale Day event. You can see the effects of the wind turbulence on this jet through its low fast passes and on final approach. Joe is an experienced pilot so gave us an excellent demo despite the conditions. Almost a perfect flight until he touched down and lost one main wheel...but no harm done.
  18. Created by master aero-modeller Tony Nijhuis. Always a pleasure to film this guys models flying.
  19. Still very much around. Just got too busy with filming, editing and uploading to also post to forums. I will try to post more often. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)
  20. I have filmed several turbine F-4 Phantoms. It's an iconic jet and have always wanted to try flying one but a turbine version is well out of my reach. Cue to Freewing F-4D Phantom II. Looks like the real thing after 15 minutes of assembly and applying the decals. Dropped in my receiver and a 6S5000 flight pack and I was ready to go.
  21. An array of fantastic WWI fighters and scouts in this slot at RAF Cosford. Each model aircraft built from plan by hand by its owner. Certainly challenging to fly in any kind of wind but the weather was fairly kind to us on this day.
  22. Handled like a full size pilot. Nice skills in a potentially disastrous situation.

  23. With all my recent filming of turbine A-10s I had to have the nearest thing. One of the 'Essential RC' team had told me Motion RC had opened an EU warehouse so after a quick stock check on their web site I made the order for the big 1.7m Freewing A-10. It shipped same day and was with me 2 days later! Building time is very quick. Simple assembly takes 30-60 minutes. Applying the water type decals takes several hours if you want to apply them all. I used two Optipower 100C 5S6000 lipo packs. Achieving CG was easy at about 85mm from leading edge. The video shows take off from a very short strip. Although possible it's not recommended. Having a more aft CG and holding in the elevator until the front wheel is off the deck is a must to achieve it. A fully aerobatic flight. Enough power. You can retrofit 90mm fan units but I don't see the need unless you want unlimited vertical but at the cost of less flight time. I timed for 4.5 minutes which gave me 15-20% left in the packs. The landing was overshot on this video. First time flying the A-10 at this site. In hindsight should have made a lower approach. The descent gave me extra speed on touchdown I didn't need! All in all a spectacular and big EDF jet. Not cheap but considering it's size and it's plug'n'play format it's fair. Building something like this from scratch would be a lot more expensive. The included ordnance set is fragile, especially the sidewinders but 3D printed replacement versions can be found in thingiverse.com.

  24. It had to happen and no surprise that Anton Lin of Skymaster Jets is leading the way. The first gas turbine powered VTOL Harrier AV-8B. Development and testing continues and we're not likely to see it at a public show flying a full VTOL routine until 2019 but nonetheless what has been achieved so far is a sign of things to come.
  25. It was great to see a big scale Dornier Do 335. Rarely modelled and understandably. I suspect it's a very challenging project. This one flown in great style at the Weston Park International Model Show in formation with several other WWII fighters.
