  1. I rocked up one day to the flight school and we had to wait for the weather so I gave the pre solo and the radio exam a go out of the blue, no studying for it at all. Got a couple of questions wrong from ambiguously worded questions, but passed both first go. If anything they could have been a bit harder for my liking :P Not looking forward to HF though.
  2. Nice Work! You will get used to it, its not such a bad little aircraft to fly. I did some more solo circuits in my schools J170 yesterday afternoon, and next flight its time to hit the training area again to get ready for area solo :)
  3. My girlfriend came home on night and asked me, "Whats on tv honey?" I replied with, "Dust." Thats when the fight started! Theres heaps of those ones around and alot of them are pretty good!
  4. Maybe, id have to drive though so depends on the day how I feel.
  5. I have been flying a j 170 and I like it, but I havnt flown any other powered aircraft. The only thing I can think of that I don't like is the flap switch, which is in the middle which requires reaching across yourself with your left hand which is a bit unergonomic and annoying on final approach, but it's just a nuisance not a problem.
  6. Im flying with pathfinder shags. Once checked out you can indeed hire an aircraft and fly somewhere, though you can only fly in ybaf class d, no other cta areas are allowed. Best bet would be to give them a call! Daves a nice bloke and has always answered any of my queries(which were exactly what you just asked, I.e. hiring conditions) in as much detail as he could!
  7. Does anyone know how long the new RAA website has been up for? I must be recent because I looked at it the other day and it was still the old version, but I really like the look of this new one. Alot newer and fresh!
  8. Currently working for Qantas as a baggage handler, but I am also hoping I will soon be an ATC.
  9. I did notice it more after circuit bashing for a while and I felt myself trying t fight the lean of the aircraft (which I've never done in a glider, but I'm doing in the Jab for some reason). So maybe that could be the cause?
  10. So I have recently been doing some lessons in a jabiru j170, and by the end of the lesson my lower back can be a bit sore, does anyone else have this issue? Is a cushion likely to fix this for me or should be chasing a better solution?
  11. Sorry probably not worded too well. What I meant was there are quite a few drainage areas where pipes and ditches etc are alongside the runway (perpindicular) which are visible from where I work at the airport(only just visible though, if your stationary its easy but if you are driving along it can be hard to spot them. In our airside drivers licence test there was a section on not driving on the grass because of ditches and things you wouldnt notice when your moving), but would seem like being near impossible to see from the air (I very well may be wrong, they could be visible from the air, I obviously have never flown in to brisbane airport myself). I hope that makes more sense.
  12. Theres also a lot of hard to see drainage ditches alongside the runway. I dunno where they put it, so I didnt get a chance to go gave a look, but we were told at work it was a toll frieght metro returning from a maintenance check flight. (these details are worth what you paid for them, nothing. They may be incorrect.)
  13. Im looking forward to trying it but im not keen on the pay as you go scenery deal. I would much prefer pay for the initial game with all of the scenery, instead of the initial game being free and having to pay to fly somewhere in particular
  14. Cheers shags, May I ask what was involved in your assessment day? What sort of things did they test for and what sort of mathematics were you required to do? Thanks, Nathan
  15. How long did it take you to.reach assessment shags? I applied a couple of weeks ago and really want to get in :p
  16. I originally had my gliding logbook, and recently when I started RAA flying I copied all of my gliding flights into a nice hard cover logbook and use that for both now.
  17. What are the actual maintenance requirements for a GA experimental? Do they require the same maintenance as a normal GA plane (annuals etc), or is it closer to what RA Aus requires? I suppose what I mean is even if you would have to get a LAME to carry out maintenance in that situation, will you need to have as frequent/expensive maintenance as a normal GA aircraft? Just curious is all
  18. There isnt many blaniks that are still flying as far as i know. Caboolture has done the required modifications to allow theres back in the air, and i have been flying that one, but I remember them saying that not many people bothered. I think they are a fantastic glider.
  19. CFI - yes, I have it open right now, anything I should be looking at in particular? Tomo - Ive had a TIF there already, but I dont know if it was Mike I flew with. The business card I got says David, who I believe is the owner but Im not sure. Either way I was impressed, I was treated very well!
  20. I dont know if this is the right place to put this, but here we go. Im looking at re commencing my training very soon, (hopefully a matter of weeks), and it will probably be at the new RA-AUS school at Archerfield, which is called Pathfinder Aviation. Just out of sheer boredom I suppose I decided to have a look and see if I could find the CASA exemption on the CASA website that allows them to conduct operations out of Archerfield. However, I cant for the life of me find the damn thing. I can find some exemptions for other schools out of places like Camden, Jandakot etc, but not Archerfield. Maybe im just blind, but does anyone know where the location of this is on there website? Is it possible that not every exemption makes it onto the website? Its bugging me because I start searching for something I HAVE to find it, or it plays on my mind. Cheers for your help everyone, Nathan
  21. Very very sad to hear. I happened to see both these aircraft probably an hour or two before the crash when they came in to land at boonah yesterday, and we were struggling to figure out what they were. It puts it into perspective though when you see an aircraft and then no more than an hour later that aircraft no longer exists.
  22. Sorry for the late reply, I thought the auto tow was amazing Exadios, at least for the 10 seconds that I got to experience it :P The climb angle while still keeping 65 knots was insane. Much much more exhilarating then aerotow.
  23. Yeah it was awesome haha. While I technically wasnt in control (i was passenger), I was on the controls feeling what was done (being my first type of this tow of course), I got to keep the snapped piece of rope aswell =]
  24. Haha yeah. Im not new btw, just havnt posted in a while
  25. Wooo. After an extended money lacking break, I am finally getting back into gliding. I have moved to flying with Boonah Gliding Club, and in the last few weeks have flown both the ASK21 and ASK 13, and also experienced a cable break this morning on my very first ever auto tow take off. Hows that for getting back into it? Cheers, Nathan
