  1. Hi Guys, Anyone attending the Fly-In at Gympie on the 5th and 6th of August?
  2. I was at ASAP last Friday and they quoted me about $149 for the 6.00x6 and I assume 6 ply. From searching on the net that looks like a good price.
  3. Thanks Mark, I see the Condors are available in a 6 ply and an 8 ply with the 8 ply being taller. Are the 8 ply the ones I should be running? Where is the best place to source the Condors?
  4. Hi MajorTom, Did you have any issues fitted the tyres that ICP supplied. I have just dug out the ones in my kit and they are the same as yours. I didn't order the 6.00x6 they were in the box. I was going to upgrade to the Condors but don't know if I will now. Phil
  5. I think I will set up a rinse bath as well and recycle the rinse water until it gets to contaminated. I'm on tank water so it is a limited supply and I can also control the contamination.
  6. Mark are you using running water to rinse or another tub of water?
  7. Mark, I have been contemplating what corrosion control methods to use on my aircraft. Alodine looks to be the best method, with the best outcome. Have you found a local supplier? Are you rinsing after the alodine dip? I need to catch up with you in the near future to have a chat before I get to far into the build. IBob, I wasn't surpassed to open the box till the house was finished but you know how it is. Just told the wife that I am sorting, he he. I will probably leave the skins in the box as I have the space to do it. Best duck over and see what else I can put on the mezzanine for sorting!
  8. Hi Tom, That sounds like a great idea, I'll chase up some big enough to do the job. I guess time will tell if the seats are worth the money. Was thinking of building them first, then I can sit in them when I need inspiration while I'm trying to decipher the manual.
  9. Cleared some space on the mezzanine floor in the shed we are living in till I finish building the house and started the sorting process. This could take a while!
  10. A big thanks to Reg at Aerokits for delivering my Savannah S kit today. Let the fun begin.
  11. Yeh Mark, make sense that that dirt was injested when the wing impacted. Couldn't believe that much dirt could find a way inside a wing under normal conditions. At least you can see what damage there is now, with the skins off.
  12. Wow Mark, it amazing how much dirt gets into apparently sealed compartments.
  13. Hi Steve, Reg hasn't indicated where it is, I'm sure we will sort that out in the near future.
  14. Hi Guys, Pretty excited. I have secured the last kit that Reg had in stock and hoping to take delivery in the next 3-4 weeks.
  15. Well the dream is now a reality. I have placed my order for my Savannah S kit. Still need to finish the house so I can get my shed back. Will give me time to read and try to understand the manual and get everything sorted before I begin.
  16. Hi Yenn, I live just up the road from Greenfields AirStrip also. Most of the homes that have access are up long private driveways so I have made contact there yet. The only hangar that is close to the road usually houses a ex-RAAF CT-4. Give me a yell next time you are down this way, would like to catch up. Cheers Phil
  17. Thanks Scott, I've meet Dave, he flies microlights from the Teewah Strip. I was flying over home at Cootharaba a couple of weekends ago and found 4 other private airstrips in the area, and was curious as to what aircraft fly from them. Keen to make contact with some other passionate flyers in my local area. Cheers Phil
  18. Hi Folks, Was wondering if there is anyone here that flies from any of the private airstrips in the area north Noosa. Cheers Phil
  19. Hi Guy, Good to see that your baby has survived. Looks like it was a big effort by all involved at the airport to save those other aircraft. Very sad to see the devistation that the Lismore area is going thru. But good to see the community spirit is alive.
  20. Way to many trees on my block Mark, apart from the house and sheds its all trees. It's very hard to see what is in most of the hangers on Greenfield strip apart from 1 which is close to the road, the rest are on private gated driveways. The one that's visible houses an ex RAAF CT-4. I am constantly monitoring the aircraft activities as we are below a long final to RWY 10. Will be interested to hear the outcome of your stick upgrade for Mabel. I have been doing a fair bit of ready regarding electric and manual flaps, and it looks like manual flaps are,the better option for STOL aircraft and will go with that option. Mark, if possible I would like to get the details of your detachable stick coupling when I get to that stage of my build.
  21. Hi Eightyknots, Start time depends on finishing the house as we are living in my aircraft factory at the moment, but I would like to think it will be similar to your start time. I'm chomping at the bit to get going, but I want to make sure I do it properly the first time so I will ask as many questions as possible before them. I would be good to be building at the same time to keep check on the construction processes. Mark Thanks for the feedback regards the twin sticks and flaps, sounds like good advice. I am still sorting through your post to find the details of the twin stick mod. I am a bit spoilt with having elec flaps after flying the Sky Arrow for the last 6 months, but the simplicity of the manual flaps with your modified selector makes sense, I just wast sure it was doable with the twin sticks. Then Sky Arrow Imhave been flying is the one featured in the March Sport Pilot. The Condor tyres are a definite to give me the off airport capability. I'm a bit envious of your farm, having your own strip is the ultimate. I can't find the space on my 10 acres. The farmer next door owns 900 acres and I keep eyeing of suitable areas for a strip. I am also just around the corner from Greenfields Airstrip ( Boreen Point) a private strip, I am yet to investigate being able to fly out of there eventually.
  22. I am looking at the twin sticks with elec flaps, what other options would you guys recommend for my build from your experiences.
  23. Hi Mark, It's going to be a painful struggle getting through the house build as I just want to order my kit and get started. I have already been in contact with Reg regarding my plans to build. Looking forward to catching up. After reading your build posts I would have to say you are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to building a Savannah, along with some of the other members of this forum. I haven't meet Blair Rowan but I think his Savannah may be the one I have seen in the Aero Clubs hanger. Do you know if it's a kit build or factory aircraft?
  24. Hi Folks, My name is Phil and I have just recently gained my RPC flying out of YGYM. After much consideration I have set my mind on building a Savannah S. I am currently building a new house as an owner builder and currently living in the shed that I will be building my aircraft in, so I need to finish this project first before I start my aircraft build. This also pleases the wife and keeps the peace. Looking at finishing in the latter part of this year. I have had 25 years in the defence aviation industry working as an avionics tech with both the RAAF and Boeing on F111's. During this time I also acted as an all trades tradesman . I'm hoping this will help in my build as our maintenance processes were rather strict and thorough. I have been following the threads on this forum for some time now and think I have read most of them twice. I am looking to gain some more insight into the build processes for the Savannah S and would love to chat with some local SEQ Savannah builders. I would also jump at the opportunity to go for a fly in a Savannah if anyone has a spare set at any time, to feel how the aircraft handles. Cheers Phil
  25. Well a year on and I finally gained my RPC back in February. Between weather and work commitments I managed to get the hours and complete my training. Now to fly the last couple of hours to get my PAX endorsement then start on my cross country. Started my training in the Tecnam and finished in a Sky Arrow.
