  1. Hi Bob, They are straight copies of the originals. Phil
  2. I have found an engineering company here on the coast that can machine the bushes in Teflon. A kit of 17 bushes, qty 10 of the 8mm, qty 5 of the 12mm and qty 2 of the 16.5mm. For anyone interested it will be $360.00 plus postage. I will be ordering my set shortly. Cheers Phil
  3. Thanks for the sheety advice gents, I will follow your educated info with the rest of the build. Only did the one rib as a practice. That is what is so good about this forum. Plenty of great info.
  4. Hi Steve, No i didn’t alodine the rivets. Thanks for the advise I was following the directions in the manual for rivet direction. I will look at doing it for the remainder.
  5. Yeh Mark, I used the Supercheap Ali-Brite. I went with 1 part alodine to 2parts water as per the Henkel product sheet.
  6. Had my first go at Alodine dipping today. Set up baths and rinse tanks. After de-burring I had a go at the rear fuselage frames. Pretty happy with the results, maybe a bit longer in the alodine. Had to rivet one frame together to feel like I had achieved something for all the effort.
  7. I was looking at my elevator hinges and noticed that looks to be slightly smaller in diameter where they have drilled the hole for that split pin. Should I be concerned with this, to me it looks like a potential failure point on a critical flight control?
  8. I will look at all the bushes, keen to ensure they are up to the task.
  9. I’m am looking at some suppliers at the moment. I will investigate the cost of doing a batch and make up a kit for owners and builders if it is cost viable. I need to find all the bushes in my kit and take some dimensions. Would be nice if those dimensions were available in the parts list.
  10. Hi Bob, I’m just about to start the build of my tail feather and see you were fitting Teflon bushes. Did you have yours made? Cheers Phil
  11. Thanks Mark, I will get onto Reg about the stick upgrade. I thought I had read somewhere that people were replacing the bushes. I read that many post now I can’t remember where I read it. Phil
  12. Thanks for the info Mark. I have read that some builders have replaced the elevator brass hinge bushings with nylon, have you done this on yours? I think I will be going with the twin stick option. Can you remember how much the kit was from Reg?
  13. So I’m guessing Mabel will be Red and White also. Are you etch priming all the internal components also?
  14. Mark, What is your plan for painting Mabel? Are you going to etch prime everything before you assemble the components? I want to start alodining this weekend and a bit of assembly, so looking for some advise. Still working out what I’m going to do about the skins, considering brushing the alodine. Cheers Phil
  15. Thanks Hank, when do you start your build? Would be good to have someone building the same time.
  16. I have decided to Alodine all my parts, so I sorting out some tubs for the process. I have all the parts up to 1200mm long sorted but am just working out how to do the sheets as they wont fit in the tubs I have bought. I have also decided to do a test fit of all the components for each assembly. I have started with the tail feathers. This enables me to ensure I have all the parts, and also allow me to get the assembly process in my head before I start the true assembly after the de-burring, Aldine and etch primer has been completed. I have found out already if you get one piece wrong you wont have everything line up correctly. I might also try to take plenty of photos to make a log for future builders.
  17. Well the house is 90% finished and we have moved out of the shed which has meant that I have been able to start setting up the workshop so I can start the Savannah build. Slowly unpacking all my tools and stuff. Setup my office and mancave which I have called the AV8R Bar.
  18. Was that Ray Allen in the US, Lyndon?
  19. Hi Lyndon, I'm looking at fitting the Ray Allen stick grip also but deleting the dash switch. How much did you pay for the Ray Allen, and where did you get it from? Cheers Phil
  20. Sorry Mark, didn't look close enough at the photos,to see you had only clecoed the rear together.
  21. Hi Mark, Have you thought about brush alodining the rest of the rear section of the fuselage.
  22. Thanks Guy, looks like a painful process ahead.
  23. Hi Guy, I was wondering how you identified all your parts when you had them alodine dipped? Cheers Phil
  24. Started the sorting process.
  25. Hi Robbie, Welcome. I have just received my Savannah S kit and am in the process of sorting all the components into sections of the aircraft. Also racing to finish building my house so I can move out of my shed so I have somewhere for the build. Will start a thread once the build starts. Cheers Phil
