  1. Safety investigations & reports

    Hi Jethro

If you go to the ATSB excellent web site and type bankstown into the quick search you will get about 150 results covering about 30 years in a high traffic area. Mechanical engine failure on these mostly continental and lycoming powered aircraft is almost nil. Most failures were fuel related, lack of, selection, contamination.

If you were planning a trip to a strip that may be difficult, say like Mittagong the atsb is a good resource, just type mittagong into the quick find

It's a shame the ATSB don't do numbered aircraft.

  2. I wouldn't think of starting under a Cessna 182 with suitable nav, radio, and I wouldn't go for "old" unless the aircraft is maintained to current condition.I'm not sure what a new Cessna RG182 costs, but the 172 is around $350,000, and that's about the same as it always was in terms of average weekly wages. I'd be looking at hire rates on new units at the destinations.

Any ATSB accident reports that show the cause as old ?

GA are maintained by independent lame to current regs

Last new C182 RG was built in 1984

  3. Are there any problems with controlling with the red knob, ie mixture? What happens if you are seriously undershooting. Full throttle, control rpm with mixture?

Yes just go back to rich if undershooting, lean cut when you have it made
