  1. I'd be running and writing ....Taking notes for the authorities, some poor sucker is likely to get. hurt. Thread temporarily closed for maintenance - Mod.
  2. Carby Ice and slow revs... the 3300 will sit on 3000 + RPM all day and run smoother... I have a 2200 , I sit on 2900 average. ( the book says 3050 max rpm) The only time I ever slow to 2400 is on downwind.. My mate has a 3300, he cruises around the 3000 rpm 99% of the time. As far as I know the 3300engine tops out at 3300 rpm.... I've experienced carby ice on a reasonably warm day, after only around 1000ft decent. I also noticed it seemed to surge a bit when I left the carby heat on for an extended period (one only)... So, work it harder and use carby heat when theres moisture about, especially a change.. TTFN Warick
  3. I pay $3.50 each for the standard (NGK) ones, and change them every 25 hours. I was considering changing to Iridium plugs and better leads, but no-one has sugessted it is worthwhile...
  4. Ian, they used to use what I know as "frontrunner" It was inside my jab, (a thin, in my case grey, fabric with lines in it, like old fashioned carpet). I enquired about something to replace it and was offerd a product that is much easier to fit. I was told it is used to cover rear dashes in cars etc and that the "frontrunner" (My dad had a catermeran fully lined with the stuff) is "going out of fashion" . This product has no lines, comes in a couple of colours. I went for a dark grey. It stretches around corners etc , you can insert little pieces. All in all it is a great product. I don't know what its called, but I purchased if from Jacksons Foam and Vinyl, 63 Raceview St, RACEVIEW, QLD, 4305. (07) 3281 1999 . They will tell you what its called! I purchased my fabric for my new seat cover/cushions there as well. Hope this helps Warick
  5. Hey James.. Donny at Jabiru told me 15W50 is the go, He told me it also gets the heat out of the motor quicker... He also said brand was not that important, as long as it's aero oil. I think they use shell, because the nearest depot is a shell depot.. ttfn WG
  6. I've heard that the solid lifter motors have a bit more grunt, mine has solid lifters. the later model jabs have bigger exhausts than my sk2200, and bigger carbies. Speak to Donny in the Jabiru engine shop, no-one knows more about them... hes got a hot 2200, the prop idea is the most economical, Maybe use course prop in Winter, fine prop in Summer? . . . WG
  7. Hey Jim, I have an SK2200, I have just put later model heads on the 2200 motor, made new air ducts, opened up the top cowl by over 50% ... A good friend of mine has a 6 cyl Jab, basically did the same thing, it runs much cooler. One of our other club members is in the process of a 6cyl Jab motor rebuild, most likley due to running hotter than neccessary for years, hes opened up his cowl now.. Had a problem with one head during testing/run in, (it picked up a valve seat) but the guys at Jabiru could not get the bits to me quick enough (no charge) Here are some links to photos of my progress on twitter, if interested http://twitpic.com/yr2gw/full http://twitpic.com/yr2nc/full http://twitpic.com/yrhgk/full http://twitpic.com/yw3ef/full http://twitpic.com/ywdfo/full http://twitpic.com/zthbk/full Warick . . .
  8. Only minor, changed some of the text on the buttons to red, I think i made some of the buttons slightly smaller.. Warick .
  9. I used the 3 spare pages (as it can show 20) for my checklists... I showed a couple of my pilot mates and they want one too! Hey Ross, I used text "buttons" do you know is there a way to touch them so they change color as you "check" them? I'm using your main page you made, with some minor tweaking, it now appears as the 4th page after my checklists... Wizzard (Warick) . . . Next thing is to mount it in my Jab . . .
  10. .........Oh... what about a Jabiru 3300? is it too big?
  11. Do those pages save anywhere? can we see them somewhere? sounds cool.. I tried my iphone while flying using its gps, it was pretty damn cool watching the "flashing blue dot" wizzing accross the satellite images ... TTFN Warick
  12. HEY ROSS  Just got back from dinner at the Boonah Bowls club... I put it in the map you sent and it looks great. I'll be buying a map package for sure. Where can I download waypoints? (I assume you can?) I'm still using a demo version.. Soon to purchase the full version  I notice my device has a sim card slot too? I'd definatley appreciate any of your custom pages related to flying. It was a simple process to put the ozexplorer in and to copy the maps too. One of the easiest "computer" setups I've done! Does one of the pages have an "old school" road to show you are on track if you want? I have not seen it yet... MANY THANKS!! Warick . . .
  13. I dropped the OZIEPLORER files into my new GPS (and told it to look there for its gps software) and it WORKED!! The one that I got from e-bay ....I tried that (hires.dat) and it worked, have not decided if I will keep it though, I just have the demo maps. I would like to try a real map to decide if I wanna buy the lot? Do you use the original screen setup's ?? or have you designed your own, the screenshots you showed look fine... I could not get my PC to read the 4gb (as its HC SD) so i used a 2gb one. I'm not going to store mp3's or videos on it .. What can I use the blutooth feature for? Warick . . .
  14. Mine has a 4 Gb SD in it, my pc does not like it though (or any other 4Gb SD) (HC SD), I have a brand new 2Gb that works in PC and new 7" in GPS . . .
  15. Give me a call 0412115377 I just went down and back, I can give you some hints, YOu can take a more direct route, especially in a slippery plane! Warick

  17. Hey Slartibartfast, I got my GPS, but don't know where to start.... WIZ
  18. ANy reccomendations on inexpensive Avionics? Is there such a thing? Looking for something like a Dynon D60 ? Thanks.. WIZ
  19. Will your aircraft be hangared all the time?, can you keep the engine warm in beetween flights.... Thats something you normally need to do over there isn't it? or isn't it cold enough. I'd talk to the guys from jabiru and see what the suggest? I just got my first Jabiru, its got a 2200 in it and I am impressed, my best mate in our club has a 3300, his has some cold issues, but its an early one, and it has higher compression than a normal one. when he needs a replacement (in about 200hrs) hes going to buy a brand new one, hes of the opinion that there are no more issues with them at all.... just keep up the regular servicing. As far as I know, you don't need to service quite so often if you use mogas.. WIZ
  20. What my mate has done with his is put a small bolt through just behind the cowl (on the non removable part) it links to the positive, I have not seen underneath, but the cable would be very short. He uses that to boost battery power occasionally, but still need to put a heat gun up its bum to get it warm enough to start, when its a cold morning. My 2200 seems ok so far, his is a 3300... WIZ
  21. I looked further into some previous posts and discovered the link :) I will get a $65.00 pack (Maroochydore / Sydney) or similar for now. But I will need some help or tutorage (is that a word) in setting it up... Thanks WIZ
  22. After reading some forum post on here, I ordered a 7" GPS on e-bay, I expect it to arrive in the next week... Where do i get the maps for ozexplorer?? I could not find anything listed as vnc or vtc?
  23. I spoke to the Engine guy from Jabiru today, as I want to use the BEST oil, he said the straight grade is good, but can cause difficulty in starting during cold weather. He also said that the multigrade 15W50 has the same wear characteristics as the (in my case the 100 grade) and he said the muligrade actually allows better cooling he said "it gets the heat out quicker". He also said as long as its aviation oil, it does not really matter which one you use, they use shell because the depot is nearby. I did some quick research and found the esiest place to get shell "aeroshell 15w50" was the shell depot at Archerfield Airport in Brisbane. My local depot got back to me and wanted about $3 or $4 more per QUART. One of my best friends has a 3300 in his Jab and it needs a hairdryer on cool or cold mornings, even running the multigrade oil. Hes going to buy a brand new 3300 in a crate in about 200 hours, he reckons this will fix his starting woes, as the new motors are a bit more refined. My 2200, seems ok in the cold. One of our other club members also has a 3300, he also has trouble in cold weather. We are all in Queensland, but still have some cold mornings of course.....
