  1. No back then I was a Sportstar, er I mean flying the Sportstar
  2. Been 6 years since I got fuel at Goondi. I had called the day before and pre-arranged it, then phoned 1 hour out. Still got left waiting for an hour in 40 degree heat. Hence have not been back since.
  3. Wouldn't have aclue about the throttle / thrust lever thing, but that was an interesting show. Did anyone else see the control inputs during the stall test? The footage from the outside of the aircraft made it look pretty tame but the pilot was pretty damn busy on the controls, including a lot of aileron movement?
  4. Thanks for the answer Andrew. I too am after a touring aircraft and consider a transponder, GPS, at least 1 strobe and decent fuel capacity a necessity. I guess I am spoilt by my Skylark that has transponder, Avmap GPS, full light package ( was actually built for night VFR ), a ballistic rescue chute and an in-flight adjustable prop but comes in with an empty weight of 321kg. At 600kg MTOW this allows full fuel ( 90 litres = 63kg ), 20kg of baggage and still leaves a very realistic figure of 196kg for pilot & passenger. About the only thing I would change would be to loose some people weight in exchange for another 10-20 litres of fuel. Oh, and I still want to do 115 knots. Looks like replacing the Skylark is not going to be easy.
  5. Brumby website says 345kg. What sort of fit out do you have? Any reason why yours weighs 30kg more than they say? Or is their number unrealistic and does not allow for a radio, transponder, GPS etc? 374kg takes this aircraft off my interest list. 226kg usable is less than my old Sportstar when maxed at 544kg.
  6. Yep, definitely a Jabiru - it's got a white tail.
  7. I just can't stop thinking what a noise this would have made. Imagine if you were in the hangar doing whatever. Yes you would hear it coming but that would not prepare you for the racket that was about to occur. Definitely an undies changing moment!
  8. Met, that hangar rash should polish out no worries!
  9. Ian, I have not seen you for a while but it looks like the plastic surgery went well. You are looking sooo much better!
  10. Congrats! Did it feel lonely up there with so many empty seats?
  11. Measured with the Fun : $ ratio scale, how cheap is that?!?!

    Surat?

Tomo, this is where it pays to carry a copy of the AOPA guide. It has details on many strips not included in ERSA.
  13. Had heard it is a write off. The only thing re-usable is the tail group. Everything else is bent or twisted. I suppose the engine should be OK after an inspection.
  14. Tomo & everyone else had better take notice off AA, she really knows what she is talking about! Go the Hurricane!

Ever noticed how you never see any crappy low-level aerobatic pilots? .
  16. I drive 30-45 minutes to get to the strip where my aircraft lives. It's very frustrating as I live 700 metres from an airport with no available hangar space. We continue to lobby council and the airport corporation to try to get some land to build our own hangar. .
  17. Hi Aussieaviatrix Welcome to the forum. Gotta admire your taste in photos for your avatar! .

Funny how that works. My wife hates heights but loves to fly either as pilot or passenger?

    AusFly

Unfortunately with the timing so close to Monto we will not be able to do both. A bit of a shame as I have family at Dubbo so I usually don't need much of a reason to head that way. I hope Ausfly goes well, I really like the concept of getting all aspects of aviation together Oshkosh style.
  20. Did I tell you about the other day when I was balancing my carbies................... .
  21. It is even possible to mould in the rib pattern, this is done on some of the high end composite r/c models.
  22. Ok Ok, by "original" I meant not this modern day imposter.
  23. Hi Met, That was someone we both know at Gympie so you can imagine how much we payed out on him!
  24. Have had an L2 blow into the pitot while we were setting up an air-switch to cut in at the correct airspeed. With the length & girth of the pitot on the Sportstar this definitely fitted into the "things you see when you haven't got a camera" category! We did have a trial run on an unservicable ASI to get a feel of just how little pressure was required.
  25. That is a real shame, the unique wing shape is such a big part of the character of the original Stinson Reliant.
