  1. HORSES FOR COURSES IF THE TD IS KNOW AS THE CONVENTIONAL UNDERCARRIAGE THEN WHAT IS THE ONE WITH THE LITTLE LEG AND WHEEL UP FRONT? A TRAINING WHEEL OF COURSE. MOST OF YOU WILL REMEMBER THOSE LITTLE TRAINING WHEELS WE HAD ON OUR FIRST PUSH BIKE, WELL THAT IS THE SAME PRICIPLE FOR THE "UNCONVENTIONAL UNDERCARRIAGE". ALL JOKES ASIDE, I THINK THAT WHAT DETERMINES WHAT LANDING GEAR CONFIGURATION ONE HAS IS THE AREA IN WHICH ONE FLYS. I MAINTAIN THAT IF YOU ARE UNDERTAKING A LOT OF BUSH FLYING THEN THE CONVENTIONAL GEAR CONFIGURATION IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO. FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I SAY THIS. I DON'T THINK THAT I WOULD BE ALIVE TODAY BUT FOR THE GOOD OLD TD. WE LOST ENGINE POWER AT ABOUT 1000' IN A WIRE BRACED DRIFTER WITH ONLY NIPPER HUTS AND RICE PADDY'S BENEATH US. IF I HAD BEEN IN AN AIRCRAFT WITH A NOSE WHEEL THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO WAY I COULD HAVE GOT IT IN WITHOUT COMING TO GRIEF. YOU ONLY HAVE ABOUT 30 METRES WALL TO WALL ON A RICE PADDY. ANY OBSTACLE HANGGING OFF THE FRONT OF THE AIRCRAFT WOULD HAVE BURIED US. WE WALKED AWAY WITH THE AIRCRAFT ONLY SUFFERING SOME MINOR ABRASIONS. RICK-P
  2. SKYFOX FOR SALE. SEE FORUM ANYTHING AVIATION FOR SALE. THANKS, RICK-P:off topic:
  3. An AEROPLANE rrruuunnn for sure, see it's got little wings.
  4. Hey Dave now you know where to go you better get an ASIC card so you know who you are when you get there
  5. People, there are, without naming them, civilised countries in this world who's law enforcement officers shoot people when they see a red or green dot on their person. Laser light because it is used for targeting many weapons including some that will bring down an aircraft, if pointed at an aircraft and seen by the pilot/s, pilot/s who also fly in countries other than Australia, may well be sorely concerned about their safety at that time. If you go into a bank with a toy gun and show that gun to the staff and hold up the bank that is an armed hold up. If you point a laser light at an aircraft knowing that it is wrong to do so then you have committed the act with malice as you intended to, without question, notwithstanding the level of the result you wished to achieve, whether it just be to annoy the pilot/s or at the other end of the scale bring the plane down. Basically, the point is it's wrong so don't do it and if you do then you deserve what you get which in some cases and some countries is a body bag. Rick-p
  6. Mate, a word of warning, please don't make such statements even in jest. In this world we live in today certain statements are taken seriously first and never now treated as a joke. There are now a number of people in prison in this country for making statements along the same line. Remember when it comes to this particular topic you are deemed guilty until proven innocent. This is not a paranoid view taken by our government it is a fact of life now as it is right on our doorstep and knocking to come in. When you have seen the results of an act of terrorism first hand, innocent adults and children burnt and dismembered, you will understand. Please don't take my post the wong way or as being directed totally at you it is a word of advice to all as the issue of terrorism is a deadly serious matter. Regards, Rick-p
  7. I'm back and you all thought you had got rid of me. Rick-p
  8. Well I like my card which only took a few weeks to get through RAA as it has paid for itself time and time again through discounts in hotels overseas, works better than an AOPA crew card. It's also good for opening doors without a key. There is always good to be found in everything in life. Maybe we could start a thread on the secondary efects or uses of the ASIC card .

    Drifter Magic

It would have been nice to see some protective headgear being worn. The second motor doesn't prevent bumps to the head.:hittinghead: Other than that, magic scenery in some videos and the plane seems to perform very well. It also has bit more windshield than normal to deflect the bugs.
  10. Mate that's why you have an ASIC card your name should be on it:im with stupid: Unless of course it won't be if you really don't want the power's to be to really know who you are. Try something like "Bin Flying D Plane" :hittinghead: Rick-p:ban me please:
  11. As far as I'm concerned what they did, if the facts are true, was nothing less than a very selfish act that leaves only victims behind which such includes their families. That's with whom our pity should lie. I won't apoligise if my words seem harsh or offend someone because I meant what I said. I lost a few years ago a very dear friend and his son in a freak plane accident, they didn't have a choice or a chance to survive but here we have 2 experienced pilots who had a choice but chose to fly with all the odds against them. Their actions in my view were basically no different to that of playing Russian Roulette with a load gun. All I can hope for the families of these men and all aviators that some good comes out of these guys deaths and that is no pilot should ever again be so dam stupid to try to do the same thing again. 12. open this and see behind the scenes. My new airfield. :faint:or splash in. LIVE THE DREAM rick-p
  13. Live the dream Ian. This will become my airfied. Regards, Rick
  14. Hey Rod I visited your page twice so you have now had 2 visitors but you still need to make some friends, try Darren he is a good guy. Rick-p:laugh:
  15. Ian, that's interesting because if it be the case that they do change the rules to allow RAA aircraft to participate then attendance at the event could be included in a good x-country from where I stand and a nice flying holiday to boot. Of course the events that RAA aircraft could enter, because of our restrictions, would see some events out of our reach but still you would only compete in the Collabri type events (if that's how you spell it). Please keepus posted as to the progress if any, thanks. Regards, Rick-p
  16. New rule 1, don't leave the fuel in the bowser put it in your tank then fly the aircraft. Rick-p :hittinghead:
  17. Thanks OME, I did know that but I was sort of fishing for some end user advice as the agent may only tell me the pros not the cons.;) Rick-p
  18. Thanks Brentc, Maybe it would be appropriate if your friend sent me a PM as to what his view is on the planes after having flown them also if you have any info it will be appreciated, thanks.
  19. Hi Ian, that would be great. Basically my home away from home is on an island in the Philippines and I'm a member of the ACFC (Angeles City Flying Club) 85 kays a long drive away but first a 40 minute boat trip. I attend the club about every week for a couple of days at a time and can't thinkof a better way to do it other than by an amphibous aircraft, of course 912 powered as Jabiru don't as I understand it operate well in a pusher prop configuration, hard to keep cool. Anyway, I want something highly resistant to corrosion, strong and with a reasonable cruise, preferably with a hull and not floats. There is also not too far from the Club a huge river which make for an ideal training area and playground. As I said previously any assistance in locating the right aircraft will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick-p
  20. They do look good, close and clean. Can you enlighten with a bit more info IanR? Rick-p
  21. AND J430 you thought that this may get too easy for them
  22. Correct Flyer so there must be a formula for calculating the flutter margin (the risk factor) not rule of thumb but a scientific matamatical formula. Does anyone know it? Rick-p
  23. :juggle:The air temperature is also a factor, why?
