Oh what a good turn out. Beautiful weather but a testing cross wind. Pilots opting for slight headwind or tail wind depending on how brave you are to come in over Tim's home. Hear are a few photos and a couple of short videos.

Scre80, fuel only is "he's Holmes" ha ha and that's elementary my dear boy.Flyerme (Jacky). Thanks for offer for refueling. I plan to leave Penfield (near Sunbury Victoria) soon after first light, Wx 4cast and vis permitting, and reckon its a 3-4 hr trip so into your strip around 11am and overnighting.

Hi Matt,

Did you get out of Penfield and across to Sherlock?

I was stymied at West Sale greeted with 20kt winds with gusts of 30 on the ground

Not to mention the 45kt headwind I was going to encounter at 2500ft

Horsham AWIS also showed cloud down to 600ft and vis of 4000 meters up until around 10:30am

That put a stop on it for me

Alf

Very disappointing that I couldn't make it across from here as I have been waiting for months for this weekend to arrive but the wind was relentless here and it is not worth dying for

I would have had a very slow trip across as the winds were 45kts at 2500ft and stronger the higher you went and also cloud was almost down to the ground at a Horsham with 4000 meters visibility going by the AWIS from 6am right through to 11am as I kept on checking

Glad you had a great turn out as it you deserve it

I'll find a weekend soon with a big high and forecast manageable winds load the swag up again and fly over and catch up in any case for the weekend

Will keep in touch

Cheers Alf

Hi Alf,

I set off from Penfield about 11 am on Saturday into lowish cloud and climbed above the cloud base and into calm air at about 8000ft. Cruised comfortably at this altitude but the cloud was joining up and holes diminishing so I twirled down through the next hole and flew the rest of trip at about 3000ft. A consistent head wind of about 25 Kn made it a 5 hr trip from Penfield VIC to Sherlock SA. Easy navigation to Sherlock and to Tim's short strip. Tim and his SA colleagues welcomed me warmly and I spent a wonderful time chatting and eating magnificent tucker prepared by Tim's mate. A local lass turned up with 4 tins of home made Anzac biscuits and boy they were delicious. After dinner Tim entertained us with a one man band guitar and drum performance as we rotated our bodies around a glowing fire in the drum. I slept fitfully inside even though the chainsaw imitators beside me were full throttle!!.

Next morning a filling brekky was enjoyed and I refueled courtesy of Tim and friends who generously drove out to purchase fuel for me. I took off and enjoyed a sweet tail wind home returning to Penfield in just under 3 hours.

I thank Tim and his friendly partner Naiomi for a warm country welcome and hosting a great gathering of like minded aviators. Great food, conversation and interesting machines. See you next year!!!

Thanks Matt

Hey Jacky Boy

I just noticed you had 2 confirmed attendees to you fly in on your page

Myself and Matt Walsh both from Mecciko

Unfortunately you only had a 50% success rate between us two

Top job Matt to make it from Victoria as if I could have got out also us Mexicans would have had something to boast about

Alf
