2 News Corp. papers running stories about the race coming to the local area, who's phone did they hack to get that scoop? sounds like market research.

Will probably only be in the EU and the US to keep costs down...

I would love to see it here on the Gold Coast. Probably wont get it though. The local QLD government has made massive budget cuts .I dont blame them though. Somebody has had to start paying back the massive debt left by the former government.

These events only make money for the promoters. To the taxpayers, they are a black hole to pour money into. I would like to see the race, but not here where I have to pay for it.

Heard rumors Melbourne might be in the running, either way, I've got rellys on the goldie!

The talk is it will be held over Albert Park where the Grand Prix raceway is. Would be a fantastic venue but it would crimp the style of those who routinely use the VFR coastal route from MBN to MEN or PCK.

Geez Kaz, I could have my style cramped for a weekend, fair chance I'd even go for a look,,,,maybe!

I would have thought these guys would be well below the VFR lane 008_roflmao.gif.692a1fa1bc264885482c2a384583e343.gif

So who is going to prune the trees back so people can see more than a glimpse of the race.

I think it would be very difficult to do at Albert Park safely, given the pylons are only about 50m off the ground, and you have all that built structure around the area. One miss and it's into the side of a building or a tree.

I think The Gold Coast would be ideal, either over the Broadwater or off the Cavill Ave beach. Both would offer the best views possible for a good stretch of the race (3-4km along the foreshore), with capacity to spare along the coast for visitors. It would be a boon for all the highrise accommodation from Broadbeach up to Paradise point - coincidentally where most of the highrise accom is.

Looking further forward if we get Wavebreak Island Casino and ship harbour running in the next few years (realistically 2017) that would feed a few bucks into the tourist market too from enthusiasts.

Perth has hosted this event quite successfully and safely on four ocassions. Perth Water has proven to be ideal, and being able to use Langley park as the aerodrome, having it adjacent to the course has been a big benefit. The WA govt seems to have been happy with the benefits that this event has brought to Perth, and I imagine would be happy to continue. Once again, Perth's geographic isolation does not work in its favour.

In the local media there was a comment attributable to the organizers that they want to introduce a pay for attendance issue. This would be nearly impossible with the Perth site.

I have attended and enjoyed two of the events. There seems to be fair amount of waiting around interspersed with some spectacular flying. The skill level of the pilots is such that there seems to be a sameness throughout the event, and have observed spectators leave after the heats because there were no bingles!!

We have observed what has ocurred with Formula 1 racing. Do we need any activity where the promoter takes the benefits and the venue provider accepts the risks?
