1. just South of Proserpine in the Whitsundays

2. About 4nm to the east of Proserpine on the Whitsundays

Well one of them, maybe SE? Of the township or the airfield????? Would make an interesting flight plan.

But seriously, can't get there this weekend but would like to mark the position on my maps for future reference.

Yes Frank SE , if you draw a line from the centre of the Proserpine airport circle to the 8 in the 81/2 E out to sea, it's right under the line about 1kl in from the coast between two river mouths. Two cross runways, one in front of the house and hangar is quite short, (STOL ?)...and another longer one running parallel to the coast, but quite undulating at the eastern end. Not sure if there has been any Jab ops there at all, you would have to check woth Ian or Julie.....................Maj....024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

17/35 600m grass undulating!

any non STOL aircraft wishing to come could land at Prosie airport or Lakeside airpark and we can pick you up in the Sav or a car!

Looks like good weather for a few days, so may be a camping trip on for Monday or tues night, Mount Coolon perhaps??????

Well the Heathrow Sunday brunch fly-in today was a great success, The weather could only be described as very friendly, with smooth air and temps at altitude of around 27 degC.. We left Montpelier (Townsville) at 9.30 am for the 127 nm run south to Heathrow, with a 10 kt tailwind most of the way at 3500, for a 1hr 45 min leg.

The air was busy with other arrivals as we approached Heathrow, but we were soon cleared to land by 'Heathrow control'. There were several arrivals from the Mackay area to the South together with local Whitsunday area aircraft and trikes.

I'll let the attached photos talk for them selves, but highlights for me was the great food put on by Julie and Ian Wells, (backyard BBQ at it 's best!) the varied and friendly assembly of friends and fellow pilots, and the chance to strap on a very nice Fisher Drifter for a very nice 15 minute cruise around in the lovely late morning air. Thank you Eric for the fly in your nice machine, And thank you Ian and Julie for having us all over at Heathrow...We lucked out with another 10 kt tailwind on the way home for. 1 hr 35 min return to Montpelier........Maj...012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

That sugar-mill shot is magic Ian................Maj...012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif 012_thumb_up.gif.83e1b5422694a022eec36e1e8343f687.gif

Try and do that shot again Ian with the smoke above the horizon... I reckon that would look even more interesting... ie from a lower altitude.

Hongie I darn't go any lower as Prossie township was somewhere just below that fog. there was a clear area just out to the west of where we were flying that we wanted to keep within glide distace, just in case. Besides, had to stay above 500 feet. 059_whistling.gif.a3aa33bf4e30705b1ad8038eaab5a8f6.gif

Great flight though. 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

Agree Ian. Fog on way up (St Helens north) was clear below 250 feet so as you know we turned back before it and landed at the new airstrip north of Ball Bay and waited an hour then the light westerly breeze pushed the fog off the coast. Great Sunday thanks again to yourself and Julie. The flight home was great coditions and I took Murray past Cape H. 012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

Cheers
