bexrbetter
Old Oshkosh picture, Pax was killed. The plane in front of the Vans(?) saw the fighter coming and turned out of the way onto the grass not trusting him to be able to see him and was hoping the Vans would follow suit.
Birdseye
Reminds me of the old motorcycle accident excuse, "sorry mate I didn't see you". Sad to see anyone die without cause.
flyerme
That's horrible, I like the suggested ( Bex I think)reversing camera mounted in front for high angled tail draggers to see whats directly in front of them.
Guest ozzie
The aircraft was from Canada returning home after the convention. Pax was a well known Lazair owner pilot.
dutchroll
Numerous eyewitnesses stated that the Avenger did not s-turn on the taxiway, though the Avenger pilot (understandably I suppose) denied this. When you're in a radial taildragger, you have to make your s-turns worthwhile. I still s-turn even when I'm 99.999% sure there's absolutely no-one on the taxiway at all! And if the taxiway is too narrow, go onto the bloody grass! Yes the RV passenger was killed.
bexrbetter
Similar incident, oh if only planes could talk. Wait, what??

Birdseye
No car involved in this one. Just like big jet engines, small propellors are also dangerous.
Downunder
Was watching a number of different tail draggers the other day weaving and so on. I had just fitted a car cam and thought one of these would be ideal... 1
red750
Interestingly, an episode of Air Crash Investigation aired on TV yesterday, featuring the mid-air collision of a DC7 and a Constellation over the Grand Canyon in 1957. The evidence that the aircraft collided included the photo below showing prop slashes in the fuselage of the Connie.
