facthunter
I think the Hughes Spruce Goose would have a bigger wingspan. I'm too lazy to check it up. Nev
Marty_d
The article itself says "However, its wingspan is considerably smaller than that of the H-4 Hercules, known as the Spruce Goose, which was designed in the 1940s to carry Allied troops into battle. It is regarded as by far the largest seaplane ever built although it only ever made one flight, in 1947." AG600 wingspan = 40m Spruce Goose = 98m So yes... a little bigger... Marty_d
You're right Fallowdeer - apparently the Martin Mars has 61m wingspan making it half as wide again as the Chinese one.
facthunter
Yes, there was some large thing built by Consolidated also, after the PBY Catalina, PB2?? with four engines. Martin became builders of large flying boats. Some were used for fire bombing until recently. Not sure how recent. There's a Saunders Roe jet as well that might be worth a look too. fallowdeer
Coulson still operate the two surviving Martins. One was at Oshkosh this year.
Happyflyer
Germany had some 6 engine flying boats in WW2 with wing spans up to 60 metres such as the Blohm & Voss BV 238.
