RocketShip
Can anyone suggest what is available in a sunshade to suit the Victa Airtourer. Sure gets hot in a low wing in summer. Can't seem to find much using Google.
facthunter
Some used a curtain across the top and able to be moved on wires. Nev
djpacro
My friend fitted these. Airtourer Association is the best place to ask.
facthunter
They certainly get hot. I always opened the canopy after landing but that has it's risks. Put you hand in the usual place and apply a bit of brake and watch out hand. Nev

Roundsounds
VH-RSJ had some pieces of curved painted Perspex that fitted into tracks and slid forward when needed. Looked like a factory fitment. Edited January 12, 2023 by Roundsounds
facthunter
You certainly need something as it's a lot of sunshine coming in. Nev
RocketShip
Checked out VH-RSJ, love the paint scheme. Koger can do one for the Airtourer as was mentioned.

Looked like a factory fitment. I had forgotten about that - forward of the painted section. Sun protection must’ve been an option. https://images.app.goo.gl/rfyc7GUkzBAPhBK79
pmccarthy
I will ask Ivan, the current owner of the rolled steel joist, how it works. I flew VH-MVF a lot back in the 1970s in Broken Hill and we just lived with it for a while, then painted white the top of the canopy.
facthunter
MUL and MVL in the 60's No heat shielding. These were for Instructor assessment to purchase if I recall correctly.. Nev
pmccarthy
Ivan has no knowledge of the sliding shade that may have once been fitted to VH-RSJ.

I’m talking about the 1970/80s version, before it was declared a write off following an EFATO at Camden.
Roundsounds
This image shows the outer “rail” the Perspex covers slid in. The rail was also made from two sections of Perspex. The cover in this image would have been stowed in the painted section and not visible. Edited January 14, 2023 by Roundsounds

Roundsounds
Rocketship, it might be worth checking with VH-ECI. Recent pics look like it’s got the rails?

RocketShip
VH-ECI looks very nice. I see it was upgraded with a 160hp engine. They would go well with that engine. I would imagine fuel would become a problem though. Burning lot more fuel.

Even the factory built Airtourer Super 150 had a miserable useful load for aerobatics. Add engine oil to the empty weight here then the amended unusable fuel allowance. ECI's empty weight is higher as I recall.
RocketShip
Interesting to read that djpacro. Yes the amended usable fuel is 112 ltrs by the AD I have. I enjoy flying the 115, sure it docile in climb, but lots of fun and easy to fly and land. And you can do aerobatics.
pmccarthy
The 115 just slips into RAA 760 kg category. Not with the larger engines.
