skippydiesel Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Do you happen to know, which of the three, currently available, Kitfox are you building? If intersted the following may assist with your background knowledge; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denney_Kitfox https://kitfoxaircraft.com/our-story/ Their claim to "...... 100% USA manufactured." fails to acknowledge the Austrian origins of he Rotax power plants. Not an unusual claim in the current USA marketing psyche😈
Lyndon Posted July 14 Author Posted July 14 I sure do. SS7 I think everyone knows the Rotax is not USA made. Not that I took any notice of where all the parts are made, nor do I care. To be fair the engine, no matter what brand is not in the kit. They only sell two kits. Firewall back and firewall forward. Maybe this is the reference to made in the USA. They are suppliers of Rotax, Garmin and lots of other suppliers I'm sure. They can supply or if you wish to buy elsewhere you can and then install into your kit. I took this option and bought the Austrian engine from Bert Flood. Lyndon 1
Lyndon Posted July 14 Author Posted July 14 They do have Finland birch as well in the wings. With Donnie in charge now I can see them planting Birch trees in the USA. Also Rotax setting up a line in the USA, I would suggest one to two thousand units a year with the tariff would be substantial. Plus all the other Rotax engines They produce over 200,000 per year, with the US being the biggest consumer. At 50k an aircraft engine, let's say half is the tariff component. That's 7.5k Your Rotax aircraft engine is now 57500. That's 87,500 AUD. Makes them cheap in Australia 🤔 2
Lyndon Posted Wednesday at 05:43 AM Author Posted Wednesday at 05:43 AM I happy to say it has arrived safe and sound. Take aways are. Cost to box Cost to ship to the port. Shipping Taxes. The cost of shipping from Melbourne to Adelaide Insurance for all of the above It took 5 months. A bit ridiculous but its here. Now inventory and sort my building area out. I'm hoping for an 18 month build. Not much will happen for a while My YouTube if interested is Kitfox tails I will post some pics in the coming days. 3
onetrack Posted Wednesday at 06:52 AM Posted Wednesday at 06:52 AM Kit foxtails? As in what we used to hang off car radio aerials? 😄 1

onetrack Posted Thursday at 12:00 PM Posted Thursday at 12:00 PM I could easily spend a whole day admiring the engineering, the construction work, and the sheer beauty and promise, of just what was in each part of the crate! Now comes the real hard yakka!
sfGnome Posted yesterday at 12:33 AM Posted yesterday at 12:33 AM If you’ve ever watched Grand Designs, one of the questions he asks at the end of the episode is “you said it was going to cost $XXX. How much did it actually cost?”. Be prepared to go over budget, and enjoy the whole process regardless. I’ve just been hit with a budget-buster and it hurts, but it’s still worth it! 1
Lyndon Posted yesterday at 12:54 AM Author Posted yesterday at 12:54 AM All within budget. Not my first build. Lyndon 1 1
Moneybox Posted yesterday at 05:48 AM Posted yesterday at 05:48 AM I think a partly built kit like this is a great way to go but if I was to take on a project like this I'd need to have a time slot to knock it off real quick. Too many things like this never get completed in time to enjoy them. 1 1
