Coming up to the end of my second year flying the Jab 160 / Rotax. 100 hours almost..... Not a single issue so far.... Took me a while to learn to land sweetly but ok now.  Cruises at anything up to 105 knots (no spats , sadly)  18-20 ltrs per hour, climbs nicely at 70  knots 1000-1200fpm ,  1500fpm if you really want it.  Can easily climb to 6000 feet at 1000fpm no overheating. My main problem is that I'm still flying on a Temporary Experimental R&D  C of A.  I would really like to move on from that.  If anybody reads this that has a similar aircraft please contact me re: C of A registration details. Or perhaps knows of someone that flies a Jab/Rotax (any model) . I need to see under what section their C of A lies.  That will help me move forward. .

Thanks again

I would say those figures from aak would be correct, obviously they are with only 1 person (big person 105kg) and about 1/2 fuel (about 40kg) I would estimate the empty wt around 370kg or so , all up about 500kg.

I usually climb out at 800'/min at 650kg on 100hp in my rotax j400.

What a great aeroplane!

Jabiru make the best airframe, strong, low maintenance, and reasonable price and it's local, need any parts, just call and order arrives in a couple of days!

I m very happy with my jab. Tom

if you can get hold of planesmaker he should have all the info you need.

Pretty sure Tom's Jabiru is an amateur built 430 with VH-rego so he can do what he likes.

If RAAus cannot help you my guess is there is no pathway. Ultimately CASA is the regulator. To make an engine change on say a Cessna 172 a STC, supplemental type certificate, is required. Perhaps @Rapture can advise you how they are planning to proceed with their Jabiru/zongshen build.

Type certified stops you from doing anything. I know someone else in the same position with a gazelle

Just need someone to create a supplemental type certificate, STC. In RAAus land an STC is called a MARAP.

The people that develop STC recover the substantial cost by selling the STC to many other people that also wish to modify their aircraft in the exact same way. Example, fit a Allison turbine engine into a Cessna P210 in place of the piston engine. Thus a Silver Eagle in born.

Trouble is you have to do a marap every year
