Lyndon Posted yesterday at 10:12 PM Posted yesterday at 10:12 PM I'm doing a cargo area. Bolted into a chrome moly frame. Bunnings, a caravan builder or speciality aircraft wood. I'm after the lightest strongest available with cost In mind. It's not structural. Thanks Lyndon
pluessy Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago It depends a bit on the impact resistance required (point load). Lightest is ply or fibreglass sandwich panel if no heavy point loads, strongest & easiest is alu composite panel. https://www.alupanel.com.au/ 1
skippydiesel Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Very much depends on the configuration of the aircrafts (fuselage). My Sonex is volume challenged (limited cargo space). It has a fabric luggage/cargo area (up to 18kg) behind the seat with a zip lid that doubles as a shelf, accessible in the air - good for maps etc. Accessible via two seat back hinged aluminium panels, an under/behind seat back, "pocket" (7 kg) This full fuselage width, triangular in cross section, stowage area has been created using very thin/light aviation grade plywood, as the back. Its for infrequently used items that I like to have with me on every flight eg first aid kit, tools, windscreen cleaning kit, jack, spare inner tube, etc Not yet modified , is the under seat space - If I do this it will be using the same system as for the seat back.😈
spacesailor Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Balsa Wood ' is ' a hard wood ,with densities from ' super-light ' to very heavyweight . spacesailor
facthunter Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Balsa with good thin Plywood glued each side side would be excellent. Nev
