Coroner's recommendations are just that, no obligation on bodies to comply. I know that politics enter into the mix, that's why I preface my conclusion with 'hopefully'.

A coroner's inquiry is substantially to identify any 3rd person's probable culpability regarding a death. This case, as so many others, can only find that responsibility lies solely with the pic. Training can only point the pilot in a direction. Decisions are always subject to irrationality. This man was mature age and had a history of operation in risk prone activity. A leopard cannot change his coat. Hopefully no further restrictions will be levied on us arising from the palpably stupid actions of one 'pilot'.

Luckily, the pilot, no spring chicken, was only a little shaken & bruised. Really unfortunate that he didn't quite make tha strip but airplanes are dispensable, we're not!

The Mt Beauty strip is operated as 1-way because of the embankment on the town end. It could have happened that approach was mis- judged and attempt made to go around. I dunno, just an idle opinion.

Hey! Just another forum. Nothing is 'gospel, nor 'truth. Opinions are matters for judgement. Each engine has its adherents or even 'fanboys. Never going to resolve questions of faith. I flew for 550 hrs behind a VW conversion, fancy that.

Faux pas (not fopa) gaffe, blunder, indiscretion,impropriety etc. I.E. a mistake which really demands an apology, Similar to addressing me as Donna!!

Neither of these are available to transient aircraft. There is also a strip mat Lanyon, 10km to the s/w of Tuggeranong town center but I don't like the chances of getting permission for this one either
