Apparantly there's a separate scholarship for 21-25 year olds which I'm considering applying for if I fit the requirements...emailed Ms Richards about it today... worth a try anyway I reckon :)

Ground (in English): "If you want an answer you must speak in English." Lufthansa (in English): "I am a German, flying a German airplane, in Germany. Why must I speak English?" Unknown voice from another plane (in a beautiful British accent): "Because you lost the bloody war."

Make your FI do it first and see if he succeeds (alternatively, practice it at home, then if your FI messes it up you can show off how awesome you are by saying it flawlessly)

Mangling isn't bad, everyone knows they mangle some occasionally (unless you're a 'Top Gun' tool who is clearly perfect all the time *sarcasm*) - I mangled a few the other day in my attempts to avoid saying "Wunway wun eight" (I think my FI was wondering what the h*ll was wrong with me! I was too to be honest...) The thing that really gets up my nose is when two pilots decide to have a personal chat without changing frequencies...excuse me for wanting to be able to tell people where I am in the circuit!

It's clever to locate it next to the throttle. I hate having to worry about taking a hand off the stick/throttle while I'm trying to keep things under control on approach to worry about carby heat, I always feel like I'm going to lose control or something for a moment while I'm moving my hands... (that is, when I remember the carby heat at all!) Methinks I need a bigger brain with more HDD capacity

I swear they need to make the handle on the carby heat yellow or something...when you're busy trying to keep track of everything, the visual reminder would be very helpful! Sounds like you had fun, keep us posted on how things progress :)

ANR question

I bought them from Sky Shop Interesting thing happened during my lesson yesterday. After take off I noticed that both the radio/intercom seemed fairly quiet so I turned the volume of my headset up (pretty interesting trying to do it one-handed and without looking) - I'm guessing the volume knobs got moved in my bag or something. With the volume turned down, the noise was not there. With the volume turned up (probably louder than I've had it for a while - I was adjusting it without looking so it was just a random push of the knobs until I could hear better) the noise was back. Tomorrow I'm going to plug my headset into my laptop with the headset volume turned up to see if the noise is there then. If it is, then it's got to be the headset...

Hey check-in, Have I mentioned somewhere that I wear Ray Bans or was that just a lucky guess? I have tried flying without sunnies but find that the changes in light and glare while going around the circuit distracts me and drives me nuts. I'll keep the idea in mind though :) Unfortunately the seats in the Jab don't move (it would be bl**dy handy for me if they did). I do use two cushions, but I don't think I'm sitting too far forward. I have to sit this close to get full travel of the rudder pedals (also need to extend the pedals, sigh) and also to comfortably reach the throttle etc. (I never considered myself short until I started flying! And my instructor is over 6ft tall, lucky sod) The thing is, I'm not consistently flaring too high and not consistently flaring too low, I'm doing a little of each! My problem is that I'm finding it hard to judge our height properly. My plan is to get my FI to demonstrate a landing next lesson and I can get all the sight pictures right in my head...I think it's partly that I've become slightly uncertain about what everything should look like during the flare. I think I also don't use my peripheral vision enough, I'm focusing out the front at the end of the runway, rather than also using my peripheral vision to see the side of the runway as well... so much to do when landing, so little time (or so it feels anyway) Thanks for all of your tips, I'll keep them all in mind and see how I go :)

Sorry to disappoint Moza, but I can actually :big_grin: (I can see where you're coming from though, I've wondered about if it's my height too, but I think that much is alright) But yeah, I can see all of the cowling and the nose so that much is all good I'm wondering if when I'm holding off I'm looking in the wrong place... I know I'm meant to look into the distance but is it better to look at the horizon, the end of the runway (they are different) or something else completely? Looking forward to having another crack at landings now, hopefully tomorrow :big_grin:

Right now the plan is to not get a flight sim....I think the novelty might wear off quickly and it's pretty expensive... However, Deskpilot, I'd love to hear your opinion of W7, I'm considering upgrading but not sure if it's worth the bother :confused:

Last Saturday we ditched the circuit and did steep turns in the training area which was FUN :) So yeah, I agree tis good to get out of the circuit :) Ian, I am definitely impressed you haven't let your eyesight slow you down. And you got your certificate at 27 hours...I'm at 21.4 and I haven't even soloed yet, so I'm even more impressed :big_grin: Do we get many space shuttles landing at Avalon? :confused:
