  1. Just what cars I'm going to have...had to give my Dad advance warning so he can save up for the Rolls Royce
  2. I tend to like to plan things way ahead of when they're going to happen
  3. Sorry in advance for the 'stream of consciousness' nature of this post...I'm thinking as I type, If it makes no sense, again I apologise. I guess I'm trying to sort out my thoughts by asking for advice This is purely for curiosity, I am nowhere near actually considering owning a plane. Interestingly when I first started flying I thought that I'd never want to own a plane because of the costs and having to deal with maintenance requirements but now I know that I want to own my own plane someday. My (very likely unreachable) dream is to own a plane by the time I'm 25 (so another 2 years and a couple of months to go). I've started looking at the planes for sale in magazines etc to see how prices are going...I know that I'd want a 2-seater something, probably not too different from the Jab I'm learning in (speed-wise etc) but haven't thought any further than that. I know that it'd have to be second-hand and probably factory built (I've heard you can rent factory built ones out to flying schools to help pay for costs?) My main problem is that I have no idea about the costs related to plane ownership. Things like hangarage costs - does anyone store a plane at YLIL (since that is where I fly atm) either hangared or tie-down and how much does it cost? I'm guessing that like most expensive things (cars, computers etc), planes tend to devalue rather than increase in value? So you can't really hope that you'll sell it for more than you paid... I guess my main question is, if you fly say an hour or so a week (maybe 2 or so hours some weeks, maybe none a week in winter, something like that...prolly fly more if it was my own plane), is plane ownership worth it or is it simply for the joy of owning your own plane? Thanks in advance guys. I'm unoccupied atm so decided to ask some questions that have been bouncing around my mind recently :)
  4. Today Darky is at work But amongst the NES she does still lurk To get her revenge upon our Ahlocks By stealing his favourite pair of socks
  5. brain... ==== Better young Tomo? :) I never promised it would make sense though...

  9. and be derailed by a burst water main...
  10. That is just awesome, if only I had a house to put it in
  11. The thing is, my pockets are already stuffed full and my headset bag is stupidly tiny - if you put more than a pen in there, it refuses to close i_dunno I don't really even need a flight bag yet, I'm basically trying to think of things for flying that I'll need at some point and can use Christmas to get my parents to pay for I know I'll need one eventually though, so it's not a pointless purchase
  12. Hey all, After reading the other thread about Christmas presents, I'm thinking of asking for a flight bag for Christmas (since I must start navs at SOME point...). The problem is that I have absolutely NO idea what I'm looking for. I've no idea about size (how much stuff do you need on navs?), number of pockets, anything! So, basically, I'm asking for any advice anyone has on flight bags... I've also looked at the Crumpler range of bags (I've had one of their laptop bags for 4 years, used it daily and it still looks like new). I'd assume that their messenger bags are probably too big and don't have enough pockets but their camera bags with the moveable dividers could be a possibility? I'm assuming I don't want anything too big though for ease of use though, since it isn't exactly THAT roomy in the plane... Also, most flight bags don't seem to have a shoulder strap, is it generally not recommended to have a shoulder strap on a bag floating around the cockpit or anything? Also, I have a LightSpeed Zulu headset which don't seem to fold away as small as some other headsets, has anyone had issues with fitting a LightSpeed into a normal flight bag? Do you need to allow any extra space at all? Basically, any advice would be helpful because, as I said, I've absolutely no idea what I'd need or should be looking for. Cheers :)
  13. You'd get on well with my brother, he does lots of presents involving things like bricks and boxes wrapped in metal. Once he rigged up one so when it was opened a rubber glove inflated with a big bang and scared the crap out of the person opening it (not me thankfully)... I'm wondering about a flight bag but I have absolutely NO idea how big I'd need it to be (how much stuff d'u need to carry for navs?) and what type to get etc
  14. I can just represent myself
  15. I was going to do the Headset one but gave in and got one a couple of months ago (alas) If I was going to be at the stage of just starting navs at Christmas it would be perfect so then I could ask for all the stuff I'd need for that...unfortunately I have a feeling I'm going to be starting navs right between Christmas and my birthday and too far away from either to claim some of the stuff as presents I'll set it off and they'll come to my house and find me sitting there with the PLB in one hand and a stopwatch in the other  Doesn't sound like a bad way to spend an afternoon really....
  16. I've asked for a plane, with no luck... I've also tried for flight hours, but my parents want something they can wrap, so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for ideas too
  17. Hmmm, maybe that's on the cards then
  18. Awww no Maybe still send off a quick email to SportStar just to see if they have any suggestions though? It can't hurt and they might've had other people asking and thought of a way to at least help the problem...
  19. Aha, I'm not sitting here thinking I should be soloing, don't worry Maj, I know I'm not ready. I mainly started this thread out of curiosity because I'd heard of all the different things that happened when people soloed and I was just wondering what we did here in Aus tis all... When it does happen I'll be too stoked to care if they do anything or not My landings are coming along (slowly, I seem to have different problems each lesson but I guess it's good I'm doing all this when my instructor is there rather than after) and we're probably starting EFATO next lesson so I'm progressing
  20. Typical Queenslander Note that I did notice Tomo's excellent poetry
  21. Clearly the rest of the NES-ers weren't half as poetic as Hiho and completely bombed on attempting to finish HiHo's poem DarkStylish:cool: (glad to see you all recognise it), being completely hopeless at poetry, instead went out and got a large pile of speeding tickets to celebrate having her car finally back on the road
  22. I'd desperately love an iPhone but can't justify the cost
  23. *snicker* I thought my logbook had gone the same way today but luckily no And believe me, when it does happen, the heading will be in CAPITALS  I love the Solo can idea too, perhaps we should suggest it at YLIL...
  24. That's pretty awesome
