  1. Well I've managed to get my hands on Bob Tait BAK and Bob Tait PPL books (borrowed from a nice guy in Canberra) so we'll see how I go with them :)
  2. and even at its most confusing and difficult and overwhelming points, it's still fantastic fun
  3. Hey Maj, Indeed I did, thanks. I have actually been taught to do that (and do attempt to) but it's just a matter of trying to remember everything it once...so much to remember, so little time! I think I'm going to keep missing one thing as I try to correct everything else but one day it will all fall into place :) I'll try to remember to do it when/if I go up this arvo though
  4. I'm hoping the weather is kind and lets me do some circuit bashing this arvo....only been 3 days since I was up last and already I'm getting withdrawal symptoms
  5. Sorry to disappoint you Turbo, but it was definitely a pothole near Lilydale rather than a gutter in Carlton I'll check those places out, thanks
  6. Hey Mike, Thanks. I sent them an email so hopefully it might come through with something. The amount of 'no's im getting in response to my emails is slightly worrying though... Let's hope :)
  7. haha, nah. Soarers are awesome...touchscreen controls and everything  Plus the name reminds me of flying
  8. ahahahahahahaha:thumb_up: Yeah I think I'm going to have some issues with trying to sue the council and I'd probably spend more on doing that than I would on buying new rims!
  9. Hey Slarti, Yep, those are the exact ones. I gave that place a call today, unfortunately they were the ones who told me that the company stopped producing this style about 6 months ago - they only had them on their website still because they had a few leftover..unfortunately for me, they don't anymore. :( Now I just need to hope there's another shop out there which has a few left over....
  10. Yeah, it's a fair few flying lessons Graeme If I can't find some I'm going to have a look at eBay Tomo. Those ones look nice, except that they're in the UK, can you imagine the shipping cost?
  11. Really? That would be awesome, but I'm not sure how I'd prove it....
  12. I have tried google but it keeps coming up with 'Land Rover Discovery' (argh!) No Tomo, it's on a Toyota Soarer :)
  13. That's a good idea, thanks Maj. Right now, I'm just going through the yellow pages for rim shops to send out a big email... I could replace all 4 rims (and might have to) but that's going to cost maybe $1,500 because I'll have to get 20" rims again otherwise I'll have to replace the tyres as well! Note to everyone: keep a good eye out for potholes i_dunno
  14. Ian, if this post shouldn't be in this forum, just delete it :) I know this is a long shot but I figured I'd try... I am hunting for a replacement rim for my car. I managed to damage it in a pothole on my way to the airport on Saturday (sigh) and it is dented in two places and cracked and apparantly completely unrepairable. The style is Discovery Wheels Virus 5 20". I have contacted a few tyre shops and have been told that this style stopped being made about 6 months ago, so I'm hunting everywhere I can think of for a replacement. I just need a single rim. I have attached a couple of photos of the rim (apologies for the bad quality). If anyone out there happens to have one of these to sell (what are the odds?) or knows someone with one or anything, please tell me! Cheers :)
  15. Yeah I'm not going to tear out any pages, I had a feeling that might cause issues I'll just ask my instructor next lesson what he thinks I should do...it's not the end of the page so I could just cross out the total and keep on going and it'll be obvious what I've done, but I'll just check anyway :)
  16. haha, yes you're right. I saw one at YLIL yesterday so I'm enthusiastic
  17. It was basically 'the computers are going to kill you' - they compared it to HAL from 2001: A Space Odyessy... i_dunno
  18. Probably the one who jumped out with his umbrella parachute
  19. This is probably obvious, but it's also important to restart your checklist if you get distracted part-way. I got distracted yesterday by dropping my checklist (it ended up out the door and on the ground under the plane sigh) and I made sure that I restarted it from the start and re-checked everything I'd done once I'd found it. I'm sure people already do this but I thought I'd just put it out there since we're on the topic :)
  20. Well, I started it partly because it was a nice day out and I wanted to be out in the sun In all seriousness though, I found that the physical action of actually going around corners at the right times probably helped with it...although I did find that my lawn was a bit too small when it came to trying to go through final/T&G/upwind!
  21. That would be awesome! Although I can just imagine, in the rare situation both pilots are incapacitated and they need someone to fly, some knob going "I can do it, I've watched the pilots do it hundreds of times!":raise_eyebrow:
  22. Even though it's just a 'total' for the month/date, not adding hours? Like, I'm not accidentally claiming hours I don't have, I'm just adding them up too soon... This'll teach me to concentrate fully when filling in my logbook I guess!!
