  1. Hi all, Today I got around to filling in all the monthly and 'to date' totals in my logbook (the whole two pages of it!) and, not really thinking fully, put the monthly total in for October. I've got a few more lessons booked for October so (hopefully) the current total won't actually be the total for October. So, my question is, when you make a mistake in your logbook can you use whiteout (like the tape kind) or do you just put a line through it and keep going? I don't want to use white out and then have someone tell me I've totally messed up my logbook or something. I know this problem seems pretty small, but I want to do it right :)
  2. I totally agree with the practicing thing...one thing I've started doing is 'flying' circuits in my backyard - just walking in circles around my lawn talking to myself about what I should be doing when and saying the appropriate radio calls at each corner etc I started it last week and I had another session of circuits today and I think it really helped - I didn't have to concentrate as hard about what came next and what I should be doing, and I think that was partly due to my practice in my yard :)
  3. Wish I could but it looks unlikely, for reasons you already know :( Totally on board for the AWPA shindig in March though!
  4. Does anyone here actually wear (or even own) bars? I fly in civvies and I assumed most others did too..... (Just slightly surprised at the level of debate there's been about this topic! )
  5. Pahah true...if I put that on the test will I pass, or wil they want more detail?
  6. That's a good plan.... Right now I need the insides of a toy plane so I can visualise how the engine works!
  7. My plan is to use my current ATC set with another BAK book (whichever one I end up with)...I'm thinking that having everything explained two ways will help me understand it all...
  8. It's easier? I thought the RAA one was easier because it didn't have so much on performance or loading or something....apparantly I'm mistaken? (If it's easier, why does anyone do the RAA one if the PPL one counts as well? :raise_eyebrow:)
  9. I agree with that Ultralights. It might seem a bit...poncy...to rock up in X-amount of bars and jump into an ultralight, but that ultalight pilot has still put in all that effort to get that certificate and deserves that recognition... I have to admit I'd like the chance to wear epaulettes at least once in my life but I have a feeling it'll have to be at a fancy dress party of some sort
  10. I'm going to do the PPL BAK (since I eventually intend to get a PPL as well), will these books work for that or are they written for the RAA BAK? By the sound of it, I'll definitely be getting the Nav/Met book when I do my X-Country endorsement, but if the BAK book is just for RAA maybe I should go with Bob Tait....any opinions?
  11. I'll try the ebay search thing. Tomo, how much are these magic books, do you know?
  12. Wanted: Bob Tait BAK Hi all, Now that my hideous law exams are done (yay!) I'm going to start cracking on with my flying theory. I have the ATC set but sometimes find the ATC BAK a little hard to understand (perhaps because I am not particularly scientifically/mechanically minded)..the chapter about aircraft general knowledge is currently doing my head in... I've heard the Bob Tait BAK book is highly recommended, so I figured I might look into getting it as well and using both. So, my question is, does anyone out there have a Bob Tait BAK that they're finished with and wouldn't mind selling to me (perhaps for mates rates? )....but yeah, anyone got a Bob Tait BAK that they don't want anymore?
  13. What I'm wondering about is, why was he only reported missing last night (Wednesday) when he was meant to arrive in Hay on Monday? I guess this is a reminder that we should always tell someone where we're flying to and arrange to contact them when we get there....then if there's no contact, hopefully they'll tell someone... My condolences to his family and friends.
  14. So.... 1 = Student 2 = PPL 3 = CPL 4 = ATPL And gold ones are for the airlines... Is this how it works? Maybe RA-Aus can set up their own colour (bronze? red? purple?) and have our own little system - a new bar for each endorsement perhaps?
  15. Lilydale Airport in the eastern suburbs charges about $180/$190 an hour with instructor (roughly) or $120 solo (I think) for a Jab J160. The website is HERE :)
  16. I'm sitting here currently stressing about an exam....you've made my day :)
  17. ahahaha, I'd give it a 9:thumb_up:
  18. Is Tomo vacuuming the Subrolla? Darky has 3 exams down, 1 to go and a VERY sore wrist i_dunno
  19. If you're referring to me, it's stress from sitting 4-hour law exams and you are perfectly welcome to it
  20. Some pilots will make an emergency out of a bad magneto check. Others, upon losing a wing, will ask for a lower altitude Darky wants to be the second type
