  1. It's bad/sad when you can relate to most of what's said above.
  2. Now I know what to tell my wife ..."I'm not fat it's a belly pod" Thank you Fallowdear
  3. IMHO Recreational flying conjures up images of people enjoying themselves, camaraderie...a club with a common thread (pun intended)). Aircraft pilots (to me) is bland, no sense of fun just a job to get on with.
  4. Well not as big as I would like...need to work on it. Very untidy, sorry however some of my models (those I havn't demolished yet) all foam easy to fly cheap to run and a good laugh. My Corsair shot down a Zero once by running into it and removing tail. Other fella not amused but I did replace it for him
  5. I use a mac but I will try that anyway...Thanks DJH
  6. Trying to upload some piccies, How do I delete this post...??? And how come my piccies are always too big.?? gone down to 200 pixels and telling me still too big.
  7. I pass this on for info only, I make no judgements (unlike some others I am sure ), On Saturday 2nd June, one of our club Jab 170's (factory built 2010) suffered a catastrophic engine failure whilst being flown by a student on his first solo navigation exercise from Gawler. Happily he was within gliding distance of Truro flats and managed to make a safe landing with no further damage other than a change of undies needed. This engine was a fully refurbished zero timed engine from Jabiru and had 15 hours on the clock, Aircraft TTIF approx. 1200 hrs. It would appear a conrod came adrift (reasons unknown yet) and shot out the side of the engine splitting the case wide open. Jabiru have agreed to replace engine (now fitted) with a brand new one.
  8. I'm sure there is a spell checker on the forum, every time I spell something rong it puts a red line under it.
  9. The resemblance to Indiana Jones is amazing...they could almost be brothers. Good on him for the Young Eagles job.
  10. Nothing pointless about golf...well, the balls maybe.
  11. How to start an argument on Rec Flying 1. Post an opinion... 2. Wait.
  12. Pardon my ignorance, but why don't they use common old gaskets like for example the head gasket in my car.?? but obviously of a suitable material and thickness. Or just plain gasket Goo.
  13. There's nothing glorious about war and conflict. It's more to respect and acknowledge the sacrifices of our "forefathers" friends, and family allowing us to live as we do now. The freedoms we have to, (within reason) do and say whatever we wish. Try discussing a topic like this is some countries of the world.
  14. "Cannonball run" movie. Burt Reynolds Dom Deluise about 1981 I think. Not much in the way of aviation in it, it's about a car race across the USA.
  15. Not so grumpy Riley, like all things it becomes more commercialised every year. Sadly smaller turnout where I am, cold and wet.
  16. For my mates: "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them."
  17. One at Gawler in SA. Apparently not too many in Oz yet.
  18. I have recently had the opportunity to be endorsed on the FK9. I have a total grand time of 2.5 hrs in this aircraft, I have previously only flown jabs so that is all I have to compare it with. It looks, more or less, like a Jabiru. A high-winged, two-seat, composite Light Sports Aircraft. Designed in Germany by Otto and Peter Funk of B&F and assembled in Poland. It comes in a couple of models I have only flown the base model called the "professional" designed as a training aircraft with dual controls. I won't bore you with details and specs, simply my impressions of flying the thing. 1. Bit of a struggle to get in for me, not being a spring chicken anymore I struggled to clamber over the control stick and not bang my head on the door at the same time. 2. Pretty squeezy for 2 people. Try as I might could not help but rub shoulders and legs with passenger particularly when using trim or (hand) brakes. 3. struggle to move adjustable seats (they are adjustable, at least fore and aft and recline) can't be done in situ so need to suck it and see and if wrong get out and do it again. As a result no need for adjustable pedals. Seats are comfortable with good view outside. 4. Full harness seat belts takes some fitting/explaining to passenger. 5, This particular aircraft has a MID which takes a bit of getting used to, I prefer a plain old checklist. 6. Rotax 80hp motor and all necessary instruments easy to see and reach. 50l tanks in wings with separate fuel taps. 7. Usual start and run up procedures but not used to waiting oil temp to hit 60 before T.O. 8. No flaps used on T.O though they are available however VNE with flaps 1 pretty low 60 kts so easy to exceed that on T.O 9. Climbs like a rocket @ 70kt 1200fpm. Flies Ok but see next point. Not fast, comfortable cruise 90-100Kts a lot smoother at 60-70Kts, but why fly at that speed. Excellent control in turns. 10. Bit bouncy in the air, needs to be flown as apposed to let it do its thing (like a Jab), seemed to be constantly adjusting trim, rpm, ailerons to maintain speed, direction and altitude. (MTOW 540Kgs) maybe a bit light?? 11. Landing, it's in a class of it's own. Full flaps, point it at the ground IAS 50-60 kts, flare, not much (if any) float and it its just down before you know it, brakes are excellent. Easy. 12. Compared to the Jabs, landing is a piece of cake. flying it seems to need more attention than a Jab. It costs about the same as a Jab (a little more maybe). Rotax better engine?? a nice aircraft but a bit squeezy and light for me. I will continue to fly it and see what I think in time to come. Please don't hassle me with comments like I should not point an aircraft at the ground or having to "fly the aircraft" it's poetic licence.
  19. Citizen ecodrive Skyhawk titanium Most accurate watch I have ever owned. RRP in Oz $1300.00 around the traps for about $800. bought in hong Kong for $300.00. (yes it is genuine). Someone is ripping us off.
  20. If you joined two Jabs, would they be twice as good... or twice as bad
  21. Been once, First year it was held at Temora. Found it pretty boring after first few hours, left a day earlier than planned. The highlight as far as I was concerned was meeting Dick Smith. Being newbys, my wife and I didn't know anyone from a bar of soap which probably didn't help. Too clicky for my tastes.
  22. I saw it on the web...it must be true.
