  1. hi If anyone is based in Bourke and can offer a hangar space for rent on Tuesday and Wednesday night of this week, I would appreciate having that access very much. Please PM me if you can assist. Thanks Kaz

Neither is it proof of ownership...Kaz

CASA could easily do this and it actually would make good sense if the Regulator had a different mind-set towards all forms of recreational aviation. One licence with endorsements and one driver licence health standard for those that hold it. Kaz

"Part 61 includes a glider pilot licence (GPL), which is ICAO compliant. To obtain the licence, you must be at least 16 years old. You are also required to have (amongst other things that apply to all licences, such as aviation English language proficiency and a background security check): a pilot certificate issued by a recreational aviation organisation that administers glider activities undertaken at least six hours of flight time, including two hours solo, as well as 20 launches and 20 landings in a glider or motorised glider. As an ICAO compliant licence, the GPL is expected to be recognised by foreign aviation authorities and this will assist Australian pilots wishing to participate in gliding competitions overseas." So if you want to fly gliders here, your certificate is sufficient, but if you want to fly them o/s then you can get a CASA licence. Kaz

Same problem with gliding certificates as I recall. Was something happening about that...memory stretch? Kaz

I thought that was pretty much what EALAA is aiming at. Kaz
  7. Well, I just ordered one...I'm an impulsive little thing! Kaz
  8. Definitely would want the Bluetooth. I have a Lightspeed Zulu which is pretty good but my friend's Bose sets seem a little nicer again. Our NDB is still operating (kept for training by ASA) and has an AWIS service but I don't have an ADF and it's very handy being able to phone it up for weather details instead...as well,as chatting to mates and making sure there is ice in the fridge for the G&T at the club. It's tempting Kaz
  9. Hi all There are two Bose advertised one for a bit over 200,000 points and one for a bit less than this. The add doesn't differentiate between GA and chopper plugs and the * tells you that the Bluetooth Comms is only available in some variants. Anyone know hoe I can find out what they are actually offering, please? Kaz
  10. This might help a little Poly-Fiber Aircraft Coatings What is the nearest town to you...perhaps give me a bearing and distance from a larger place such as Thargomindah? I'll probably be up your way in about 3 weeks. Kaz
  11. The cellulose nitrate was essentially gun cotton and a little bit of a worry to handle in any quantity. It also made the fabric translucent which hastened rotting. Later on they used cellulose acetate instead. Then we got the synthetics such as polyfibre which are used now by all except the religiously pure who still use linen and dope. Major Vic Pedersen of the Salvation Army Air Corps got stuck outback when crows pecked a great many holes in the wings of his AUSTER. He rebadged the wings with linen sheets provided by the lady of the house and doped them with starch. Fortunately, the Authorities were a little more understanding in those times and he wasn't prosecuted. In fact he did numerous repairs including engine overhauls while up North. I have his biography and he certainly called on the Almighty to save him a few times! Aircraft of the Flying Padre Personally, I would pull the elevator off and send it to a LAME or a RA maintainer who is able to do fabric repairs...bit embarrassing to have a patch come off followed quickly by the rest when it balloons. Really? Please explain where I made this admission and how you came to the conclusion I don't have the necessary underpinning knowledge and understanding from what was, I thought, a fairly innocuous post. Kaz

I find it very convenient to be able to fly into controlled airspace at Moorabbin, Essendon and Albury to visit friends, go shopping, look at old aeroplanes or whatever. I've been to Alice Springs several times and Parafield once. And I have shared the circuit with heavy metal at all of them. Yes, I'm VH and PPL but I don't see much difference between the AUSTER and many RA machines including our club Tecnam. I also shared a CTAF circuit with an A330 at Ayres Rock which was no different to sharing the circuit back home with a Warrior except the A330 circuit was huge. We talked to one another and he was most appreciative of my offer to allow him to land first. I did a couple of orbits on the dead side in deference to his higher fuel burn. No blood, sweat or tears at all. We have the extraordinary benefit of having a couple of Controllers here in this internet space and they don't eat recreational pilots trying to do the right thing. Being able to enter their airspace should just be another privilege that every pilot can train for. Kaz
  15. I pushed a Marmon straight 8 up a hill with half a dozen other kids to get it to roll start when I was a young teenager. The rumble seat was awesome! Kaz
  16. I had a very unhappy wasp zip in through the open vent in a Pilatus glider and land on the breast of my T-shirt one afternoon. Funny how the horizon can disappear when all your attention is taken up with something so small Kaz

It would have saved a lot of energy if you had stated that at the beginning instead of putting forward your view that RA aircraft aren't registered. BUT, that Register is made legitimate by the CAO's as is the pilot certificate. Unfortunately, the CAO's as currently written are specific to RAAus rather than being generic. Not a big thing to change, just another job for the drafting team at CASA and a few more dollars added to the hundreds of millions spent already. Kaz

    Pseudo GA

Yes, it is a different requirement Jim but the CAO makes it very clear that: The aircraft must be registered The pilot must hold a valid pilot certificate, and The aircraft must be operated in accordance with the technical manual and the operations manual You are splitting hairs here because it still has to be "registered" (the words of the CAO, not mine) and they are still "aircraft" and they are still in Australia on a register, just not "Australian aircraft" on the VH register because of an Act that predates this stuff. Good luck with that, Jim. Civil Aviation Order 95.55 (Exemption from the provisions of the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988 — certain ultralight aeroplanes) Instrument 2015 Kaz
  20. Yes, you must have either an ASIC or AVID in order to be able to use the privileges of your CASA licence. I just renewed mine and it was $210 from memory. Medical due December so I have to do the new online application before seeing my DAME. Kaz
  21. Perhaps you need to edit this reply? Kaz
  22. I have not been to the RAAus premises but saw a reference in the letter from the MD to a decision by the current Board to no longer "open the bar" for Directors at the end of a meeting as a cost saving measure. If there is no licence it raises other questions but you are correct that the EO Act does not then apply in so far as the provisions around clubs are concerned. Incorporation with ASIC hasn't changed that fact. We then come back to the interesting question as to whether the organisation is supplying services within the definition established by the High Court in IW v City of Perth. Unlawful discrimination only applies to the "attributes" set out in s6. The constitution covers "disciplinary" matters but doesn't discuss denial of service to a particular member. The Charter, however, documents Member rights and responsibilities and clause 6 appears to specifically cover the appalling situation that Ian found himself in just a few years ago so that is quite a leap forward by the organisation. Kaz
  23. Being at elbow's length didn't avoid them being joined in the widow's action a few years back. They might decide if they run it themselves they can really make sure the regs are complied with and reduce the risk that way. Building the empire might be attractive, too. Don't know that things are all that Rosy with the sister organisations, either. Kaz
  24. Sorry Yenn...not the same. See my earlier post. The very fact you can vote Board members in or out marks the significant difference between them exactly as was the case before RAAus was incorporated. You can also move motions to alter the Constitution (just get the process right) or to put a motion of no confidence in Board or President. Try doing any of that with ELAAA. I do agree with Kasper that, while the competition might be good in the short term, the eventual collapse of the whole shebang might also follow. And yes, Turbs, can't help feeling there is a behind the scenes agenda for CASA in all this; could be a lot of jobs and promotions for their sports aviation folk if it all eventually fell to them to manage completely...registration, licensing and operations.
