  1. does that include delivery Ian? sounds like a good deal
  2. Hey all, After a hours and hours of reaserch and what not i have decided to build a H bird http://www.eaa.org/experimenter/articles/2010-02_hummel_bird.asp http://flyhummel.com/hummel_bird.htm Seems to be quite a "simple" build from what i have found so far, fair bit of suport from the designers from the looks of it, decent cruise and performance and sporty looks This will be my first build and i dont really know much about builds but, i am builder and have done a few cars so i hope it is a matter of adjusting my skills Keen to hear any thoughts or advice from people and im sure that when the plans arrive and the build starts ill have a million questions but i am trying to learn as much as i can on the net before they arive Cheers
  3. Boingk, I have herd a lil about Part 103 but not much but, weight "shouldnt" be a problem weighed in this morning at 73kg but i am 5 ' 10 so hope that it isnt to tight a fit in there for me. Performance seems to be similar from what i can see and the costs are about half. eventually i will end up buying a two seat AC so for the moment i just need a way to get high!! and this is a pretty cool and exciting way to do so..
  4. Gday Pud, i have emailed Dave kings club to see if i can get in contact with him and i emailed bryan shaw. no response yet and as i know these are the only two?

  5. Thanks for that Pud! i have emailed a couple of guys that is have found with them i will PM you so see if Riley is one of them. VERRY interested in hearing some first hand info
  6. thanks for the replies guys, have spent god knows how many hours the net researching and have decided to go with this http://flyhummel.com/hummel_bird.htm. It started as something "Quick and easy" then thought well if i am going to build, build something that i would be happy with in the end
  7. Might just be that its late at night and i cant sleep but i have just been looking at the volksplane designs. I need to do something to get more time in the air (tried winning lotto so i can get a j170) and being a builder i thought the all timber design would be up my alley. From what i have read, build times are quick and around 8k complete isn't out of the question. I know that they are not the fastest nor the prettiest but im sure that it would get my bum in the air.So any thoughts, experiences or tips??
  8. Just shows laziness to me, how hard is it to use spell check???? my computers does it automatically
  9. from what i read a while ago 2 medium size pax and 2 ish hours fuel, if my memory is correct
  10. Love how no one mentions that you can now fly from cairns to sydney for a quarter of the price of 6-7 years ago (like many many other destinations), but blame them for trying to keep their company alive, we would all like to keep all qantas jobs "onshore" but are we willing to pay for the service, isnt this how the discount airlines entered the market in the first place???
  11. Cheers Maj, i will have a chat to him tomorrow, heading out to woodstock for work. So thursday i finished off my certificate and am quite pleased with how i went, weather wasnt anything good but managed to get enough hours in and last solo up, With the weather the way it was we had to mix it all up a bit to avoid the showers so i didnt get a formal "check flight" but was tested on everything as we went through the day. My instructor seemed quite happy to which is always a good sign. Thinking a few weeks break to let the finances catch up the a week off to do my navs!!! cant wait!
  12. So, i will get my certificate this week and as far as i know bundy is the closest places to hire an AC, was hoping that some one else knew of something closer, anything around cairns and as far as townsville would suit, not to worried about type but so far have only flown jabs, any info would be great
  13. thanks for the support guys!!! will be finishing it off thursday/ friday cant wait!!! Maj.. yea its nice up there. actually been working in townsville for the last 3 months, you dont happen to know of any where you can hire AC around here do you???? having a hard time finding something north of bundy.
  14. Soo a bit of an update, been flying the last two weekends and covered, short field T/O and landings, solo circuits, area solo, forced landings, 1000ft circuits (been doing 500ft), low flying and low level circuits, crosswind circuits, wing overs, heaps of other stuff as well as a nice fly yesterday over mission beach/dunk island. should get signed off next weekend then off to navs, might have a few weeks off tho to help the bank balance
  15. hey pook, NA my legs were fine, but up and crosswind was a differnt story!! So another 2 hours today and the weather wasn't playing the game, was going to do an half solo but a gusting crosswind had a different idea so crosswind landings instead, as well as RH circuits, steep turns, spiral dives, few forced landings and Full flap landings, so hope fully the weather is on my side next week and have everything back on track!!!
  16. Hey jake congrats, i met with you the other day out with Ron, glad to hear that all went well.
  17. So, up hear in north QLD there dosnt seem to be any option to hire A/C other then instruction (if anyone knoes any different would love to know) so best option seems to be to buy which i was planing but dont have a spare 50k at the moment so i was thinking of trying to start a syndicate but dont know any thing about them, would be wanting to do everything by the book, been ripped 1 to many times in my life. I would like to have all fixed cost split 2/3 ways and then a wet hourly rate Any way any info/opinions/experiences would be greatly appreciated. Was also thinking of hireing out the plane to a selected group of pilots with reasnoble hours to help cover a few costs and help out a few othersthat are in the same boat.
  18. reading them at the moment, my instructor flew with him in the RAAF, pretty in depth.
  19. hey red, im driving 4 hours each way at the moment to my school, i live in port douglas but am working in townsville so each weekend will be a drive to innisfail. We don't have much choice of schools up here but there is one 30min from townsville but decided that i would be better off at innisfail. My thoughts are, you will learn more with an instructor that you gel with not so much the "best" instructor cause if you dont understand what he is trying to explain to you (like my last school) you dont seem to get anywhere and, my thoughts are value for $$$, i would rather drive/spend more money for training that works, so if you were happyier at one of the other schools then maybe it is worth the sacrifice of the travel for the best result in the end cause at the end of the day no point spending $$ if it doesn't seem to be working....... just my 3 cents
  20. Well done mate, look forward to getting there myself!!
  21. Well, after a bit of a shock today i went solo!! my instructor decided to get out after making me do a few full stops and it wasn't as scary as i would have imagined but enjoyed almost every minute of it, my hart was going 100mph all of up and cross wind but when i turned down i slowed her up a bit to give myself a bit more time (65-70kt) and all went well from there, it felt like my best circuit all day from there. landing was best of the day (after all the turbulence earlier in the day and a cross wind) so pretty happy with my self at the moment and keen to get back up there next weekend!!
  22. Thanks for the support guys, wont be letting it happen again, we all need a hobby i just happen to have a few to many! just sitting in the hanger at the moment waiting to get up. My instructor has put me on to these free study books online. his mate is the author just having a look at the moment, seem pretty good and no cost. let me know what you guys think. www.flybetter.com.au
