  1. SDQDI you may well be right .... It is the internet after all. "...weighting less than .55 pounds (0.2495 kg)" may also be a clue that all is not quite what is seems despite Trump's undeniable ignorance. However, just to be safe I've reserved VH-RET to make sure I get it back. rgmwa
  2. Trump wouldn't know that.
  3. Well, you and I might think so, but here's the source: Boomerang - Wikipedia
  4. Just came across this while idly perusing the Internet: On December 12, 2017, US President Trump signed into law a rule that requires registration with the FAA when using boomerangs outdoors in the United States that weigh .55 pounds or more. Indoor use or recreational use of boomerangs weighting less than .55 pounds (0.2495 kg) do not require FAA registration. People using boomerangs for recreation which meet the weight standard are considered "pilots" and the boomerangs are considered "model aircraft" under the rule because boomerangs utilize lift when flying through the air. Boomerangs must be marked with the FAA registration number when using them outdoors and there are special rules when using boomerangs near airports. The rule was implemented as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2018.[22][23][24] Those using boomerangs of any size commercially (for money) are required to obtain a commercial UAS pilot's license. Anyone have a boomerang? Have you notified CASA and got it registered as VH Experimental or maybe got RAAUS 19-xxxx rego. And do you have a licence to throw it?
  5. Edit: Oops!. Posted about Mark Albery below, but from deanfi's post I see it's a different Beech 18, and RV-8. My mistake, however I'll leave the links as it's an interesting story. What are the odds of getting the wrong RV-8 and Beech 18 combination? There's a background story to this. Mark Albery flew his RV-8 from the UK to the US in 2017 accompanied by a Beech 18. 15. You may be referring to the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim (South Island), but he also has the Vintage Aviator Museum in Masterton on the North Island.
  16. The 622 hours was brought forward from his No 2 logbook, and gained mainly on fighters and bombers (almost half in Sopwith Camels). By 1927, he presumably had quite a few more hours up. Pretty impressive. rgmwa

  19. Yes, unless it's been sold in the last few weeks. PM me if interested. I have some information and no doubt Poteroo knows about it as well.
  20. I use a couple of suction cup sunshades in my RV-12, and they work surprisingly well to provide shade and keep the sun off the iPad I also bought a Koger sunshade but have never bothered to fit it. The cheap shades are removed in cooler weather. I usually taxy with the canopy slightly open in hot weather, otherwise it gets very hot very quickly. The side vents work very well in the air and the cockpit stays comfortable, but on the ground in hot weather with the canopy closed and no shades it's a very different story. rgmwa
  21. Marty is right. I meant it probably wouldn't cost a lot more to build one you could fly yourself, although I agree a Vulcan might be a bit ambitious, rgmwa
  22. Hard to pick a favourite. They are all works of art and some of the flying is almost unbelievable. Still I can't help thinking that for all the effort, time and expense that must go into some of these giant models, I'd rather go the next step and build a 1:1 scale version. rgmwa
  23. Vans Aircraft recently did that for the RV-12. Even though the 912iS seems quite similar to the 912 ULS, it still required significant firewall forward design changes, a redesigned fuel system, and a lightweight battery to compensate for the additional engine weight. Why do you want to install a bigger/different engine in the CTSW? They seem to fly very well with the 912S. rgmwa
