  1. Flying into Kununurra is not a problem, however, if you want to fly around the Bungle Bungle, there is a section in ERSA under Special Procedures on this. When I did it, it was also advised to go and have a chat with one of the local tour operators which I did and they were particularly helpful. For the Bungle Bungle scenic leg I input GPS way points on my AvPlan. This made flying the scenic route very easy.
  2. This may be of interest. 2005 Tecnam P2002 Sierra | Aircraft Listing | Plane Sales Australia Its RA-Aus Certified (Can fly through CTA if pilot holds a PPL or RPL)
  3. Thanks for your reply Guy, I had the following GPS coordinates 29°31′48″S 137°27′56″E that is is a clay pan about 5 nm north of the road. Close enough. I ended up googling Maree Man and there are some stories on its resurrection. Thanks again for your post, it has reiginighted my interest in the area. Cheers Doug
  4. Great photos, thanks for sharing, I did a similar trip a few years ago and while tracking from Arkaroola to Willaim Creek tried to find Maree Man but didn't. Is that a photo of Maree Man in this group of photos? If it is it must have been recently restored as I wouldn't think that we could miss something that big. You would't happen to have the GPS coordinates of him would you, please? so I can compare them to where I had it marked on Google Earth. Cheers Doug
  5. I agree with Downunder about displaying live traffic. I use AvPlan and usually fly in groups of 6 to 12 aircraft, half using OzRunways and half using AvPlan. My understanding is that OzRunways and AvPlan already have the ability to display each others aircraft as an overlay on the respective app. My understanding is that AvPlan is willing to display OzRunways aircraft on the AvPlan App and is also willing to allow OzRunways to display AvPlan aircraft on the OzRunways App. However OzRunways wont agree. It appears from the outside that OzRunways are making this decision for COMMERCIAL reasons rather than for SAFETY reasons. If this is the case I can't comprehend OzRunways reasoning as I can't see anybody who has used OzRunways for an extended period of time wanting to learn how to use a new app (ie AvPlan) and visa versa. When I fly in these groups, I can see on my AvPlan App other AvPlan users but I can't see the OzRunways users. I would encourage all those using OzRunways to make inquiries/representation to them why are't they allowing the display of AvPlan users or request the ability to see AvPlan users.
  6. Great report and pics PUK, and yes being one of the attendees really enjoyed the weekend made all the better by being there with friends.
  7. Hi Mike, the grass looks a lot greener than what it was when we flew into Marian. We were a group of 6 planes and parked our aircraft there on the 18th & 19th August last year. We flew down from Shute Harbour and I for one had trouble locating the airfield until I heard and saw one of our other aircraft call downwind, so I was able to follow him in. Great photos, in fact, the whole area looks fantastic. Cheers Doug
  8. Thanks for your reply David, didn't try to calculate an average speed but my flight planning speed is 105 kts. On most of the legs to the West we rarely got above that probably averaging 95 - 100 kts, but on the legs to the East we often did with the fastest ground speed registered being 142 kts on our leg from Albany to Esperance.
  9. Thanks for your reply and yes we passed abeam Giles on our leg from Ayers Rock to Warburton doing the IFR (I follow roads) thing, fantastic country. Flying in-company for me makes a trip like this that much more enjoyable, we enjoy the camaraderie at night time as well having others to consult with on weather and track as was the case from Warburton. We were to track to Meekatharra via Carnegie but we had to divert to Laverton and Leonora because of weather coming through from the west. Anyway enough of our trip, where to from Giles for you?
  10. Thought that I would share our last flight/adventure which would be the longest I/We have completed. On Saturday 30th April 2016 my wife Robyn and I departed Caboolture for Western Australia with 12 other aircraft returning on the 17th May 2016. Some Basic statistics: Our Aircraft is a Tecnam Sierra with a new Rotax 912 ULS that had 25 hours on the clock when we departed. We covered 5,000 nm completing 56 flying hours. I put together a video and posted it on YouTube of the landings. It is not one of those fancy production, no music, just the landings at all of the various airports we landed at. If you do look at it, it may be best to get a cup of coffee as it is approximately 55 minutes long. Also attached is an Australian Map showing our track. Our great country is the reason why we fly !!!!!!!!!!! Hope you enjoy QRAA 2016 WA TRIP MAP.pdf QRAA 2016 WA TRIP MAP.pdf QRAA 2016 WA TRIP MAP.pdf
  11. Yes it was a great day for flying. Enjoyed the breakfast at Murgon enroute to Gayndah. I had a minties moment (It's moments like this you need a Mintie) at the Gayndah gate, PUK introduces me to Rachel Chambers who proceeded to inform me of what the council can do for the flying community especially if we fly in as a group, So I asked Rachel what her role is in the council to which she replied, I am the Mayor. I then proceeded to cough spit and splutter for a second while I regained my composure. Where is my Minite. Rachael and the whole council team were quite emphatic about supporting the flying community and asking what can they do. PUK and I gave her a few ideas with transport being at the top of the list. We explained that the biggest concern for us anyway is transport from any airport to the town centre. I for one will be looking to revisit as soon as a suitable event or opportunity arises. The flight home to Caboolture via the Sunshine Coast was as always very enjoyable.

  13. Yes Graham, great day and great photos. There must have been anywhere from 40 - 60 4x4's on the beach at Double Island Point. Great view from the air.
  14. Great topic and fantastic to see some great photos of what some of us were doing over the weekend. I also had a great weekend. Firstly attended the monthly breakfast at Dunwich North Stradbroke on Saturday. Go there quiet often but didn't take any photos. On Sunday attended a breakfast at Cooloola Cove near Tin Can Bay. What attracted me to the Cooloola Cove event and I am sure most of the other pilots was the weather and the Venue. A first for me to attend a Fly In Breakfast being held at a Restaurant being the Tin Can Bay Marina Bar & Grill. We were bussed from the Cooloola Cove Air Strip into Tin Can Bay. Rod the organiser did a fantastic job and we had to take our hats off to the staff at the Marina Bar and Grill as Rod had 50 as a number attending but 85 turned up. I have attached some photos. 1st is some of the 40 odd planes at the Airfield. 2nd is the line up at the Marina Bar & Grill 3rd On departure overflying Double Island Point where there 4x4's everywhere. 4th Flew down the coast past YBSU approaching Point Cartwright 5th Approaching Moffat Head near Caloundra with Bribie Island in the background.
  15. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROPELLER HAS BEEN SOLD !!!
  16. I have to drop off my car at Northside 4x4 at 0800. Not sure how long they will need it. It is just for an inspection. It may only be an hour but if it it going to be longer I was going to walk down. If you would car to email to me on [email protected] your email address and mobile phone number I can call you on the morning. I keep my plane in hanger 68. Cheers Doug McCullough
  17. Hi Graham, back from our trip to Broome. Will be making a post on the YCAB forum soon. Just started organising a weekend at Great Keppel for Friday 13th to Monday 16th September. Ballpoint 246niner also replied to you and I think I have replied to him instead of you saying that I will be up at Caboolture this Friday and that I would call around to hanger 102. Nevermind, if you are still looking for some assistance in planning, please let me know. Cheers
  18. Hi Graham, back from our trip to Broome. Will be making a post on the YCAB forum soon. Just started organising a weekend at Great Keppel for Friday 13th to Monday 16th September. I will be up at CAboolture this Friday and will call around to hanger 102 and see if we can catch up. Cheers
  19. Hi Graham, just caught up with your post as I have spent the last two days doing my 100 hourly as I depart Friday week the 21st June for our two week tour to Broome and back with 12 other aircraft. I would be more than willing to assist with a flight plan but it may have to wait until I return on the 7th July as I am fully booked up until I depart. When I return we should make a time to meet over a cup of coffee at Caboolture. Please send me a reminder email on or after the 8th July. Cheers
  20. I should have pasted the link to the Video http://www.recreationalflying.com/media/flight-into-great-keppel-island.298/ It has some photos at the end of the eco accommodation. Cheers
  21. No worries, it was just a thought. It is approximately 282nm (136nm YCAB to YBUD; 130nm to Mill Iron, just east of Rocky and then 16nm to Great Keppel Island) There is a YouTube video of us landing at Great Keppel Island last August in the video section of Recreational Flying. I also fly out of Caboolture in a Tecnam Sierra. I must admit that the last trip there was for 4 day weekend. We love it and will be going back.
  22. If you get no joy at Orchid Beach I can recommend Great Keppel Island. They have echo lodges, fancy name for 5 star tents on timber floors. We have been before and going again. Really enjoyed everything about the place. Geoff is the guy who runs the echo lodge. Cheers Doug McCullough
