1. Congrats, flighty gal! Hope to see you strut your stuff at NATFLY Temora this year, too. Cheers.

New MS Flight Sim

Hmm, yes, PC Aviator. It does look very nice but we need to remember that these are purely teaser videos conjured up by marketing gurus. The car guys do the same to make their cars look flash but when you eventually see them on the road, it's like "that's just ordinary". I'd rather be patient and wait to see how a real demo on my PC goes before I praise (or blast) it. Cheers,
3. I can vouch for OrbX and OZx's products. They are simply top-drawer stuff and make the sim a whole lot more enjoyable for us "low and slow" flyers! They co-exist too, so no clashing of features, etc.
4. If only the TAFEs in Sydney would offer something similar. It seems that further education in aviation subjects is waning. I'd love to do a part time course of that nature.
5. Complacency in aviation is rarely overlooked or forgiven by our sinister friend, Mr Murphy.
6. Yeha! Good stuff. I wonder what was with the opaque filter at the bottom at certain points in the flight?
7. Yep, agree. Also same wording in C152 POH. I reckon that's superfluous wording added somewhere along the line. Unless the engine in the M type has this unique-ness?
8. G'day Dave, Why not add Bathurst to LiveATC ? It's one of my favourite sites and I also have the iPhone app. I use it to listen to YSSY and YSBK a lot. Here's the link if you don't know about it : http://www.liveatc.net. There's a link on there to offer your feed to them. I don't know any of the pro's and cons but hey, publicity can't be that bad a thing. Right? Cheers,
9. G'day mate, So far as I can tell, your phone is low on memory because of those "live" apps you just installed. Don't confuse memory with storage. Those "live" apps may be stored on the external card (which has plenty space), but they will also be utilising the phone's limited memory capacity because it's active all the time. That would be my best guess as to why it's not behaving now. Cheers,
10. That's the one that was at NatFly 2010, Tomo. Yes, I agree it does look quite good. And the yoke looks comfy but may be a pain for those with the "wrong" size hands having a long flight. I didn't get to sit in it because some brat decided it was his seat and wasn't about to move. So, I moved on and didn't go all the way back to that corner of the showground. Here's my pic of it, with the little fellah still inside. Ironically enough, this month's picture on the RA-Aus 2010 Calendar I picked up at that NatFly is the Paradise P1. Maybe at the next NatFly, they'll offer some TIFs in one? Cheers,
11. Excellent post, thanks for sharing. Very useful learning tool - you never know when you might need this kind of knowledge.
12. All good tips here and I really subscribe to the "practice makes perfect" school. However, if you have one or know a friend with one - practice taxi-ing with a flight-sim with a rudder set up. It helps a lot and if you stuff it up it isn't so expensive *wink*.

New MS Flight Sim

Aye! Too right. I would sincerely hope at least some of those developers have been following some of the FSX forums out there and seen the miriad millions of postings from people complaining of the steep system requirements for FSX and that even modern day systems still struggle. As you might know, most of those problems came from poor coding in FSX and not necessarily a lack of hardware grunt. I also hope that we can port our investment in FSX gear and add-ons over to this new development. Can't wait to see what transpires. Cheers,
14. Fantastic - I'll check it out right away! Thanks, BP & ACM.
15. Hey Willba, Welcome to the light side of flight! I did the same about six months ago (when I had 12 hours GA) and I have to admit it has been far more fun and just as challenging to learn. Just be sure to check out the limitations of RA though. Even so, you can always resume the PPL path when you have gained more experience via RA. Having said that, I doubt that you'll want to leave the lighter side, hehe!
16. Oh, man. Great pics, thanks for sharing. Gives me greater inspiration to get my own wings so's I can explore this great country just like that. Cheers,

Going solo

Good stuff, gazelle. I should be going first solo myself soon, so I hope all this good flying is contagious! Cheers,
18. Nice vid mate. Fabulous scenery! That's the AC model which got me excited and started in RA. Then it broke down and I've been forced to fly a Jabi 170 since. Still nice to fly but I reckon the Golf suited me better. Cheers,
19. Hey biggles. You didn't mention what headset you have but the David Clark X-11 has a 3.5mm jack socket built in to the ANR module for just that sort of thing. It even comes with the 3.5mm stereo male to male jack cable included. I don't use it yet since I'm still learning and need to concentrate more on what I'm doing (and my instructor is saying) rather than following the lyrics to my favorite tunes. ;) I'm sure that there are plenty of options out there, even a few simple DIY jobs. Bear in mind that enabling BT on your iPhone will chew the battery flat pretty quick, unless you have an external charger. Cheers,
20. Hey pradeep, Chin up fellah! Kudos to you for a sound command decision to go-around, especially considering the enormous temptation there must have been to bring it down on first go. I think this makes you a pilot that we can trust to make good decisions when it counts, which is far better than succumbing to ego. It's true that most of us have days when nothing seems to go right. To me, it's important to recognise that something is wrong and not despair - analyse it and try to find a way to correct it. You are still learning and gaining experience, regardless. Cheers, and congrats on your first solo. Keep it up.
21. Hey BP and Timm, I was quite curious about that Foxbat so I downloaded it too and, by jingo, I think I'm in lurve! I had a great afternoon cruising around Camden and Wilton, getting to know this great model AC. Did you know the doors are also openable? Top notch work. If the real thing is anything like this, it's just shot up to the top of my shopping list. ;) I have screenshots to share. All I have to do now is figure out how to. Cheers,
22. Hey Timm, That's a cool idea although, I'm quite time poor these days. Haven't fired up my gaming PC in weeks, but I'll keep tabs and, who knows, maybe make a surprise entrance. Cheers,
23. Cool pics. Especially the Foxbat. Cheers, Timm.
24. Ahhh, Virginia! Beautiful location that. The location of one of the best airshows I ever saw (not that I've been to a lot) back in '92 when a 747 did a low flypast. Good to see that it's still going strong. Thanks for sharing.
