  1. Blong...........why the "funny".....??? nothing funny about getting a "picture" in ones mind that at xxxx height, i can achieve xxx site, at xxx speed........i don't think "funny" is warranted, but that's just me. Grrrrrrr

Don't mean to hijack this thread.........but, my query is sort of aligned..... to "learn" just how FAR i can glide........eg, 5000ft back to idle, set up speed at 60, then note distance covered, then same again 65, again 70 etc etc. Is this going to cause too rapid engine cooling, and cause me grief. I would like to "know" in air, that, that particular area in the distance.....is reachable......if you get my drift. Ive read my POH.......best glide is not showing, maybe i just missed it. ?? russ
  5. "any stigma".......suggests...to me, that there was negative ??? regarding gyros/asra management. Be assured, asra are hell bent on demanding the highest levels of training, the weeding out of the cowboys, they even ban ( registration ) any import machine that doesn't meet asra minimum standards. One, manufacturer ( big ) fought tooth and nail with asra, refusing to redesign a matter......that manufacturer conceded, all's good now. The days of "home built" are near gone, turn key is the preferred. Most........imported. Comparing yrs back to today.........is like chalk to cheese. gyros are regularly now, covering huge miles travelling about Oz. Just mth or 2 ago, 3 guys racked up 7000 miles on a trek. ( no big deal.....it's frequent now ) Latest designs, and Rotax powered..........sales are booming.
  6. what stigma re "culture of the organisation" ???? ...( stigma....negative tone )......asra has regularly received nothing but positives from casa, audits go well, and in house management, is what some others strive to achieve.
  7. so when "a pilot"...........faults, ( he.......stuffed up ) what analytical pathway ??? do you suggest it goes. ( i repeat......"sometimes" all the training, poss dangers, etc etc, get tossed out the window, for that moment ) Can't see how to control that. ( bravado, can be a huge demon.....sometimes )
  8. hell..........you could come up with a list of ??? pilot error, poor aviating, bravado, stupidity, +++++++++++++ you can train folks to excellent skills, but sometimes.......at a particular time/place............that training goes out the window....for that moment.

  13. Fact...........the engine lost oil......why.....the non camit oil cooler hose burst. Camit rebuilt the engine at no labour cost to owner......now that's service.
  14. Way back when............folks sewed the seed of doubt re my hyd jab engine. Its now done 500+ hrs ( did give it a top end 100hrs ago ).....it purrs. But that "seed" lurks in my mind ( niggles away there )........i would like that GONE. If.........the "new/upgraded" jab is the answer..........i'm in, would be a straight forward change over. Early next yr, we are planned direct east to west, then coastal north, over the top, then down the coast, then NQ. Eliminating that "seed" would make the trip more enjoyable. I would like to wish on those jab bashers...........headwinds in your travels.........Grrrrrrr
  15. I would ( just for piece of mind ) install a camit tomorrow, but i have a 160C type cert, and it all gets just too hard.....and that pees me off.
  16. SPG2............chinese made ??? Rotax..........preferred, 2.62/1.......with 76" warpdrive. A great combo.

  20. Xav........a little bit of sideways is good, can reveal all sorts of things...........( don't dispair ) "middle of arnhem land ".......where, and doing what ?? ( resided NT 30+ yrs ) flew all over it, know it well.
  21. Gliders / hot air balloons / parachutists / gyros / ultralights..........all have their own governing bodies, works great. why not PPC another stand alone group. I totally agree that Raa are void of unbiased inputs, hence this rediculous situation, Raa stick to fixed wing ( ultralites ) period. Can recall some moons ago, Raa quietly expressed a desire to incorporate gyros into "their " group...........that was quickly declined by the fling wing guys. Back to PPC's...........for the life of me, i am amazed Raa have entertained a blatant biased outcome to be put in place, clearly engineered by interested parties to protect their own patches.........amazing. Getting genuine fairness / getting this rubbish to a fair hearing, has not just recently occured, this saga has been under the radar for a long long time. Now.........it's getting out there.........and now Raa are saying .....there appears to be flaws................but hang on RAA, up until now, you refused to entertain that notion. You were ADAMANT. 2015....................different song now. ( nothing like open question time to actually get the selective blind to open their eyes ) If........the PPC lads wish to stay under the umbrella of Raa.....Ok, then Raa must engage with more than a handful of trainers, since when have trainers had the silver bullit to set rules, call for feedback from PILOTS..........there's 50 pilots for just 1 trainer ( ratio ) It's good to see this matter finally seeing the light of day..........progress may now occur.
  22. yrs back, i was put onto K&N filters.......oil filters in particular, K&N produce a high performance range, high flow, high filtration etc etc.....this range also has easy removal / fitting......there is a large hex nut as part of the shell of the filter, it also has a suited hole through this nut for tie wire. I have used these for yrs on my soob engines.........great. The K&N part # ...KN HP-1003........( ryco Z386 ) order min 3, and they are freight free.
