  1. You can turn numbers into statistics and get any answer you like. Unless there is some context, like the others guys have said, location, cause of accident (human/machine), flying hours, weather conditions etc then a statistic really means whatever the person creating it wants it to mean. Believe me, I've done it. The definition of Luck (c/- dictionay.com) the force that seems to operate for good or ill in a person's life, as in shaping circumstances, events, or opportunities Winning Lotto isn't luck, however it is a statistical possibility according to the people at Tatts!
  2. Weather permitting and with a bit of luck we might have The Whale (C175), a couple of Corby Starlets and a Debonair flying in from down our way. That would make for an interesting formation flight combination!
  3. How did you get the front spot in the hanger Slarti?? Can't wait to see the Cheetah at Hoptoun, will get over to Adaminaby to see you one day, the Hangers look great!
  4. Again, not commenting on the accident in question as I'm sure no one will ever know the full story of what happened in the cockpit. My thoughts are with the family and friends. As a passenger I think there are other emergency "jobs" that are important too (I'd probably rip the undercarriage out of the CT4 but I could get it on the ground!). In the event of an emergency I know what radio calls to make on what frequencies, which transponder code & how to activate the EPIRB. If the pilot is struggling with operational issues I can get the "little jobs" done. At least someone else will know what's happening and already knows where we are. For a family, the waiting to find an accident site must be the worst feeling in the world. There is an interesting article in Flight Safety this month about medical issues while flying. Might be worthy of a new thread once people have had a chance to read it?
  5. Get back to work Matt! Have fun reading Flyer! The legislation relating to the ASIC scheme is the Aviation Transport Security Act 2004, the Aviation Transport Security Regulations 2005, the AusCheck Regulations 2007 and the AusCheck Act 2007. A brief summary in dot point form would be good!
  6. Just a few we have been to... Airways Museum Essendon (VIC) www.airwaysmuseum.com/ Temora (NSW) www.aviationmuseum.com.au Australian National Aviation Museum Moorabbin (VIC) www.aarg.com.au RAAF Museum Point Cook (VIC) www.airforce.gov.au/raafmuseum/index.htm Queensland Air Museum Caloundra (QLD) Ph (07) 5492 5930 Australian Museum of Flight Nowra (NSW) www.museum-of-flight.org.au Friends of the Anson Museum Ballarat (VIC) Alan Penhall Ph (03) 53324651 War Memorial Canberra (ACT) www.awm.gov.au And just as I thought of some more I found this link http://www.aarg.com.au/Links-Museums-Australia.htm It has a huge listing.
  7. The legally correct way woule be to contact the airfield managers before hand and arrange an Airport Visitor Card. The holder of an Airport Visitor Card must be sponsored by a valid ASIC holder, demonstrate a lawful purpose and produce photo identification. The holder of an Airport Visitor Card must be supervised by an ASIC holder at all times while in the security area. The "good second choice" way would be to arrange to be met by any ASIC card holder and get escorted directly to and from your plane by them. I'm not sure if this is legal but I would hope any offical person would see it as a responsible thing to do if the first option isn't available.
  8. Legally, yes. Yes I expect it is, smaller airports are less likely to have AFP turn up checking ASICs so people don't follow the rules. My opinion to anyone in this situation, if you don't wear your ASIC, be willing to take responsibility, pay the penalty and not whinge about it later. There are a lot of stupid laws out there but it doesn't mean we can pick and choose which ones we follow. If you don't have an ASIC and you want to land at a security controlled aerodrome there are ways to get around it. They just require a little pre planning.
  9. Awesome shot Brent. Can you PM me your email address and I'll send you some of the ones I took.
  10. Risk Management... do we want to wait for something bad to happen before we act? There is the potential for a pilot to get a laser flash in the eye on finals which causes him to have an accident on the runway. Do we wait for that to happen? I know it's illegal to do a bunch of things and the consequence isn't much of a deterrant (fine/points etc) but right or wrong, Aviation Safety is taken a lot more seriously than other issues. I think in some circumstances they can combine charges - Unsure. No it's not... but it's not an excuse either.

Hi p51Mustang! Be sure to let us know when you have your aircraft at the hanger, I'd love to drop over to visit and see where you're up to with it! Cheers, Kaz
  12. There has been plenty of media coverage about this sort of thing. Anyone who does it knows exactly what they are doing and what will happen to the if they are caught. There are numerous reports of laser strikes every day it's happening to all sorts of aircraft. It doesn't matter whether people do it to be funny or to try and make the plane crash - pilots are responsible for passengers lives whether it's 1 or 350 people and there should be zero tolerance. Stupidity is not an acceptable excuse for anything. I would like to think that the prosecutor looked at the whole situation when he was sentenced. He sounds like a complete tool.
  13. Nice shots Phil, but I prefer the clown plane!
  14. Matt's call is "KNEES AND NUTS!!!" I get that at least twice before takeoff.
  15. Well done Ben! I'm aiming small, I want to get the CT4 on the ERSA cover!
  16. Ian, I have to agree it is great when you meet a forum member in person. We met a few of the guys at Ballarat and another forum member back at Penfield when we landed... my apologies for the memory lapse... Tim? Thanks Decca for coming out to meet us, for the awesome cheeseburger  and for the trip to the museum. Allan had some great stories and the stuff he has collected it great! Great to see you again Nev, now we know you are practically a neighbour I hope we can catch up again soon.
  17. Matt and I talked to Graeme a number of times at Canberra, he was always friendly and helpful and offered his hanger amenities to us. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Another couple of news report... http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,23792152-5001021,00.html
  18. Great shot Doug! I wonder if they took it like that on purpose or if it was one of those "on wrong setting" shots that turn out spectacular!
  19. Ian, were you able to get spiral bound ERSA's?

  24. The camera we used for this one was an Oregon Scientific action cam, URL: http://www2.oregonscientific.com/shop/product.asp?cid=55&scid=77&pid=709 It's the first full video I've filmed with it, it's quality is not too bad for YouTube type sites. Cheers, Matt.
  25. Hi Brad, Not sure of one tomorrow but there's definitely one on the 10th of May. Cheers, Kaz.
