  1. You really have that much clout , do you ? Just went out into the backyard , Well what do you know ! : full moon Cheers and keep up the good work
  2. Back yard hay , If you want to follow manuals that are incorrect & deficient , go right ahead , and while we're throwing insults , I'd be very reluctant to trust my Maintanance to those pedantic paranoids who are prepared to follow obvious mistakes instead of using common sense , the type you find in the BACKYARD ILL put my work up for screw tiny any time! (Maybe not my spelling ) Cheers
  3. I dont think you would end up in court if some one had an accident and the engineount rubber was found to be a t odds with at least one version of the jab manual , I'm not talking about any thing else , I have at 4 or 5 versions of the jab manuals , even a color hard copy , you could write a book with all the discrepancys in them. Putting the top rubber around the other way makes it less likely to fail in survice , and hence more safe ,it's a well known practice in jab circles , the ones I move in anyway . Cheers Mike
  4. Cargo doors open up , clam shell Jaby wings 250 made the winglets , fuse, vertical stab. Has duel sticks , centre throttle ,sky view , 3300 liquid cooled multipoint injection ,and fuel injected throttle body , 30 amp altinator mounted from the vac. spline , jaby alt as backup 62" prop ,cruise 105 kts. I had to make 25 moulds for the fuse ect.ect Flys great , easy to land . It looks like a Catalina when it lands . Hope to make an amphibious version soon Ill be flying to aust fly in September at narromine Cheers Mike There's some info on the web : google "Mike Sharples avocet " I'm up late to , slept in to late this morning ,it's raining here , for a change!
  5. That's my Avocet , designed and built by yours truly ,check put the thread "Avocet flys again"
  6. Your kidding right ,? Gong to court for putting the engine mount in the right way ? Cheers Mike
  7. Commonsence trumps porly written manuals All I'm saying is if you put the top mount rubber male facing backwards it works great Take the inissutive , less stress Cheers
  8. When I lived in bundaberg I was at jabiru fitting up the first 6cyl sp 6 ( the one that was stolen in WA ) engine with the soft rubbers , and rod stiff was watching and we both noticed the soft rubbers deforming , We then tried reversing the top rubber and it worked ok , I have also from time to time put an hose clamp around the offending rubber , that works ok to and you get the advantage of the soft rubbers , The hard rubbers are available but they do transfer vibration ,. Cheers Mike
  9. You've got the rubbers the wrong way round , the male should be at the front so the load pushes against the "male bit " The thrust on the female rubber just pushes it out of shape . Cheers . Mike Also , have the male facing forward on the top mount and at the back on the bottom , I've found this works ok .
  10. Started taxi tests yesterday , did a few hops today , I need to tune the engine TBI , seems to start running rough at full power , The multipoint SDS runs good at full power ,but I accidentally de programmed the fuel ratio at lower revs , ill have to fly it to Goollwah to have it reprogrammed . Cheers Mike
  11. Send reinforcements we'are going to advance:::::::::::::::::.............. Send 3 and 4 /pence , we're GOING TO A DANCE ????? "I heard this from so'n'so ,:::::...... Who got it got it straight from the horses mouth , "Hay" Now ? Where have I heard that ,recently ??? Cheers ,Mike.
  12. It won the best jabiru 2000 nat fly , from Rod Stiff , has a burl walnut instrument panel and the stripe is 2 pack not vinyl , should be easy to spot , could be coming to the east coast ? It was the 2nd sp. 6 built , I remember it through a spinner at 2000 ft after take off at bundy , I thought the the engine was gonna fall out ! Brings back memories , Also I did the first taxi tests today in the Avocet , actually I'm real nervous about flying it again , ( I spose that's a good thing , Hay ?) Cheers Mike
  13. That's the first plane I built ! That's my first plane ! Gee I sold it after two hundred hrs back in 1998 Gee I just signed the no ASIC petition ,hope a terrorist didn't steel it .!
  14. John sorry to hear about you accident , however , I know from recent experience that your emotions will be largely clouded with medication & bad hospital food , It took me weeks to be able to have a decent crap , Take your time to get better & please rest , rest . Your really on sick leave . They call it that for a reason . Cheers & get well

    Problems

My 2 bobs worth : I agree that that would be better than AOPA, But , saaa doesn't administer licenses or rego (I think ?)(any one know for sure?),it's back to casa handling that aspect . We would only be moving our problems and giving it to them , I wouldn't imagine them to be that interested ,and I think their are some old grudges ,but it's better than it was . I for one have been a member for 3 years Chapter 25 , great bunch Only my thoughts If this goes the way it seems to be going we will all end up their any way one way or another
  16. I was meaning that in strait & level flight the wings generally settle at about 3deg aoi .Its about getting the flight loads balanced (less drag). Some designers use two deg to try and get a better top speed , but I found that on the Avocet it made the tail fly a bit low in s/level.(more drag) Obviously the elevator can change that , One of the checks is to see where the elevator sits in relationship to the vert./stab.in strait/level flight . If it sits high or low ,the the fix is to adjust the Angle of incidence of the wing , . Then there's the compromise of settling on a position of the wing incidence to allow for different weights in the aircraft . I found by having the load bed & engine close to the Cof G , that it made it easer to settle on a particular angle of inc.that gives the best overall performance . Ref." principals of flight "by Kamode (think that's how you spell it) Great book for beginners ,first year aeronautical engineering , It was one of the many aeronautical eng. (borrowed )books I studied for 3 years before I started the avocet program . Ps What I was referring to in the post was that a fixed pitch of 10 deg in strait & level flight would give a large nose down attitude , Make a balsa model and try it out Cheers Mike
  17. That's what I call working together , Just imagine 3000 plus Raa aircraft doing a flyby like that : one leads & then two & three and on It goes , ........... I think if Raa falls apart and our aircraft are grounded , it would definatly get the powers that be attention , They might try and thro us all in gail , but I don't think there'd be enough room I was thinking maybe start in brissy , down over Sydney under the bridge , then on to Canberra , (What do they say about publicity ?) Imagine trying to flight plan that ! Cheers:juggle:
  18. Just saying hi , and if you guys ever feel like comming up for a visit we've got plenty of room & great flying around here this time of year . Cheers .Mike Sharples 86484018 any time .
