  1. Just noticed ( the smell ) of the offending 98 calx vortex i drained out of the wing tanks ,I drained it into a 60 liter drum that had had asitone in and it's started to seep out the bottom rim , I'm guessing the drum had a sealant to seal the asitone that doesn't like the pulp ! Cheers mike
  2. Check these out , already thinking about it , but I'm gona need help with an amphib . Any takers?
  3. The jabiru twins for the South African market , Stuck with one in Raa unless its VH experimental IDE have to put 2 on the wings otherwise its a complete new design Just as a note : to put the engine on the nose and have the load space in the back the design would have not much smaller than an Airvan It's already pretty big , it was originally designed for the Raa 760 MTOW , bad luck hay ?
  4. Could you give me a hint about the good stuff? Avgas is hard to get around hear , or a 2 hr return flight ! I do prefer avgas but usually end up with shandy in the tanks . Cheers
  5. I noticed that when I fueled up for the first time a couple of weeks ago , the next day the fuel lines had expanded and felt a lot softer , Both the red silicon & the pirtec high press. rubber fuel lines , I had filled up with caltrx 98 vortex , I drained it out after a couple of days & replaced with avgas and a day or two later the lines felt normal again . I re sloshed the jab tanks with kreem ( before I put the fuel in) I've now got a jar with kreem lined sides & filled it with pulp 98 and so far it's stable , ill keep it in the jar for a good while to keep an eye on it , I've heard some kreem failures in the USA But I think the key to a good result is to make sure the kreem has dried completely before fuel is added , at least three days at temps above20+ deg . Looks like the 98 might not be all that good For rubberized fuel systems ?? And jaby fuel tanks with the old type tank liner ( not kreemed ) Cheers Mike
  6. No Knowing these days , it's probably illegal !!? Safe trip Mike
  7. It took me about 7 weeks from expiry date 7th April , but when I got the rego through , it started from 29 may , so you get the full 12 months from the time the paperworks through . So your not paying for time on the ground , I wonder if you could postpone your insurance as well , Doesn't effect me , carnt get insurance for prototypes until two of the same model have 200 plus hrs each with no issues . Cheers Mike
  8. It was a Yamaha 100 beewee 90kgs , It got bent in the prang ,write off , Pity , I only got to ride it once . Under Raa , you could take the bike , or a passenger not both , although its a two seater bike . I think ill get an electric one that's a bit lighter this time round . Did three flights to day , oils getting a bit hot , 110 deg , I've got one of those oil temp thermostats ,I'm going to take it off tomorrow , just to make sure it's not the thermostat that's the problem. Heads & coolant temps are good 120/ 115 deg It's a 0 hours engine so it's Probly still a bit tight . So far I get 95 kts for 2750 rpm . It was a great day for flying today . Cheers . Mike
  9. When is it again , I carnt find my callander ?
  10. I've got it marked on my callander , don't know if ill stay for the dinner ? Ill see what the weathers doing .
  11. Check out post : avocet flys again , It's got the " true " story Cheers
  12. Not bad , ill be boing some more flying today , Get quite a bit of trafic over head , although I don't get many visitors ,the only aircraft that i get here lately are insurance jobs ( they don't usually fly in !) you should have called in for a cuppa ,
  13. Never let the truth stand in the way of a good story ; In my case aug 11 FRONT PAGE , the whole front page , Broken Hill news paper A whole page of bull / .... about what actually hapened , an exaggeration of my injuries , how far I walked , an a speele on how dangerous ultralights , a photo of the accident ( that no one took? ) And to top it off , no one had asked me any thing ! News papers are like politics on forums FOSh
  14. Remember ; The ox is slow , but the earth is patient.
  15. Yes I realize its 24volts , I was talking about charging 2 batteries at once , You see I've got 2 odesy batts in parallel , and I've put a remote Anderson plug to charge ,jump , run a tyre compressor ect , but I don't think you can charge the two at once with these new smart chargers . Cheers
  16. The charger I got is the Projecta ic 7000 Yes I think you can only do one at a time unless its wired in series ,I think ? Just had a count of all the batteries , up to 8 Just put a new one in the landrover disco $ 240 .00 .you end with a large investment in batteries , pays to look after them . Cheers .
  17. Maj , yes I put the other battery so when the planes on the ground it has more weight on the nose , these center mounted engines are a bit of a juggle to balance with no pilot . It works pretty well with 25 kgs on the nose It works out that 1/2 the weight of the pilot goes onto the nose . I moved the wings forward 70mm on this one , avocet 1 had only 15 kgs on the nose , made it easy to fall on its tail , It won't feel as nose heavy with a passenger this time round as well. The extra battery gives a nice start . Buy the way , I just got one of those new battery chargers 7amp that does agl , gell ect. Question , can you charge them both at once ? Or is it better to only do one at a time ? Hope this makes sence Cheers
  18. If that's the same size ones they use in jabirus Their 6kg I've got 2 in the front of the avocet , ones for ballast. Just had a look & I've got odysey 625 and there 6 kg By the the way , I had my first 2 flights today , bit nerve racking , Anyway after about 10 small hop flights up the runway at 20/50 ft agl I bit the bullit and took advantage of the perfect conditions , All went well and now looking forward to some test flying around the strip . Cheers Mike

  20. My old man used to say that riding a motorbike was the next best thing to flying , I've always had a bike & a license Got a 1972 one Owner xl Honda 350, picked it up at a garage sale . Back in the late 70 s I had a 750 Honda x police bike ,got a lot of respect on the road Cheers mike
  21. Hi , they make the fuel tanks and every thing else from epoxy LC 3600 resin and ARADURE hardener , 3:1 ratio . You can get it from jabiru in 4 ltr plastic bottles , or MURIE enterprises iin Sydney or Melbourne , In small quantities its cheeper to get it from jabiru Cheers
  22. Talking about frost & condensation , I left a jab outside at Wollongong in winter one year , when I tried starting in the morning , turned over all right but wouldn't start , it turned out to be heavy condensation on the flywheel & the coils , I wiped it dry with a rag and started up ok . I've also used cup of hot water over the carby Works well and you get to have a nice hot cuppa before you go ,& then 1/2 hour into the flight , you have to go !
  23. Looks like he's turning the prop with his teeth Ouch!
  24. Hi , I've got the pocket fms on the skyview ,half the price of the gepp. You don't need the subscription fms for the smart phone , I've got oz runways which has the more familiar Ersa , This works great for me . I know FMS doesn't have IFR ,where gepp does , I don't need that ,and with the FMS your not paying gepp for something you carnt use Cheers Mike
