  1. Point taken sorry . I've had to do some remedial work since the first couple of flights , The oil temp was getting to high after about 1/4 hr , I've installed a different type and today flu for 1/2 hr with stable oil temp 89 deg .( I'm running an oil temp thermostat .) Also I've taken the winglets off , it was just an experiment ( that didn't work to well) In short they made the aircraft yaw & difficult to handle in mild turbulence When I thought it through , a center mounted engine has less yaw dampening than a front mounted engine so any disruption on the wing tips , in turbulence translated into unacceptable yaw .they seemed ok in still air. With the wing tips off it flys great and very little yaw due to the fatter vertical fin I fitted this time ,( all experimental) Cheers Mike Ps I've booked into Ausfly in September Starting to get nervous !
  2. It's one thing to spell it , but really , what child could grasp the meaning , How about you , do you know what it means without looking up a dictionary ? Signed : dum arse
  3. And I thought we where talking about solinoids, ( that's what the spellcheck dribbled out this time ) Mike
  4. I tried to sell them 12 cubic mts of class A coach wood some years back , but the price they were paying for the hoop was a gift ! Same old same old Actually , virgin hoop pine on a large tree is quite hard and approved as aviation timber Mike
  5. Maj , it's the soft wood , plantation hoop pine I've seen some variation in the hardness in that timber , I planed a couple of cubic meters for the guy who used to make their props years ago . Plus they only run 3 laminations on the 4 cyl & 4 on the 6 cyl , lots of jabs 4/6 running sweet apple , Brent Thompson NZ they use ash and you can tourqe them to 12 ft /lbs and don't give many problems Mike
  6. The spell check POLICE are at it again : Just between you me and the man upstairs : They should do something aviation like , Go build an aero plane or something Or maybee fly a kite Mike Ps (joke joice )
  7. I've found with the scalloped washers that they need little attention , they seem to work fine . The old way with the short bolts was a routeen of having to nip up nuts to tourqe every time and eventually crushing the prop hub , Seemed more of a problem on the four cyl. I've got quite a collection of props with cracks around the hubs , they make nice prop clocks Cheers Mike
  8. solenoid just checked on spell check on my I phone
  9. Looks like a send back to the factory job , IDE be a bit concerned about the fly wheel bolts , Probly worth a look , check tention , Maybe replace the bolts , Mike .
  10. I had left a j200 out in the rain , as one does from time to time and the next time I went to start it , dead solinoid . Pulled apart and found full of water . Upon looking where it is positioned the rain or hose when washing actually drains right on to the solinoid , Anyway iput a new one on and placed a shield to divert the water , I dried the wet one out and put it back together and it works fine , ill keep it for a spare . Cheers Mike
  11. It's the next owners that usually have the trouble with these submarines I've seen it , Never by a second hand 4x4from south east QLD A mate in hawker bourght one , totally rusted out chassis painted over with tar paint !
  12. That's wishfull thinking Short answer No Long answer. You would have to change the guts out of one and replace with ,I would say expensive parts . I've seen single headsets for sale from time to time . There was one bose for sale in port Lincoln a few months Back , if you have access to the saaa web site , try chapter 25 and ask the tech counsil guy , Mike H , he will know if there still available . Good luck .
  13. EQ in west aus. Have unit that works through the radio , I've bourght one and it works great I've got mine wired to the base station for the wireless headsets but you would be able to wire it to your radio .(to the harness) I've tried the ear thing in the headsets , but it's not that comfortable ,& hard to get the volume right . This unit quietens down when transmitting & receiving The EQ units been designed for use in aircraft Find his number in aviation trader Cheers Mike Ps don't forget to pull over to the nearest cloud before making a call!
  14. The ridge in distant left top left is wilpena pound , it's a nice 40 min round trip after work , or before . Come over any time , heaps of room in the homestead . Cheers , Mike
  15. Hi Maj. I like listening to you guys talking about the engineering & certification stuff , I owned for a while while I tidied up a and replaced what needed replacing a couple of early jabs , number 10 & 15 , 15 had 7,600 hrs on the clock and is still going strong , it still didn't have the bulkhead behind the tank fitted , just the old cross brace, that used to detach from time to time. I did it up to keep , as it was the one I went solo in , but had to sell to help finance the avocet , I don't have enough fingers and toes to do a count on how many engines it might have had , ( well maybe that's a bit exaggerated !!) Cheers mike
  16. I seem to remember not so long ago when the whole council in Wollongong was caught with greasy hands , It seems to go on all over the country , I know of buissines people in YBUD who were caught out trying to bribe the Harvey / bay Council and where fined big $$ ( say no more) Sooner or later these crooks will get caught out , especially when something like this happens & people start asking questions .
  17. Sky view shows terrain & runways , I saw a Video of a plane in America landing at night between hills right down to the runway and land . Ps not advocating that this should be tried . I wouldn't be game! Cheers Mike
  18. What about the Maintanance issues , I had a fellow who had a j200 VH rego & I couldn't do the maintenance as a level 2 So he changed the rego to 19- xxxx and hay presto , I can do the Maintanance ! That gripes me a bit . Go figure. Cheers Mike
  19. Come out & visit the flinders ranges , I don't get many visitors these days Cheers
  20. Maj , your going back a few years , Microair haven't used that bolt on I /c for at least 14 years , or there abouts ,back when jabiru owned Microair . They were pretty useless unless you rapped them in alluminium box , I used to use a coke can His is only one year old and will have an internal I/c & duel freq. monitoring , Great little radio but you need matched headsets .
  21. Send the light speed back and get another bose , I've been caught befor , they have to be a mactched pair , same impedance ,same type . I think there a two types in use , one is ...... Gees I carnt remember ... Need help here?
  22. I've done the same , best thing I've done . Great Aussie product , and not expensive for what you get .perfect clarity I've just installed the blue tooth option $167.00 . What will they think of next
  23. How olds the micro air ? And usually the headsets have to be the same You'll get one to work ok with mic gain adjustment pot on the side of the radio case , But I've found that trying to get two different types headsets to work is frustrating to say the least , they have to be a mached pair Cheers
