  1. the avocets a design idea I came up with a few years ago when the 760kg weight increase was going to happen , it's basically an ultralight ute , or panel van ,with the back opening doors allows a motorbike or a stretcher to fit in , but as the rules are now it's limited to 600 kg. there's some more stuff on the web, Google mike sharples avocet cheers Mike

  4. I've got wireless headsets , that's a start mike
  5. The plumbers nightmare (my nightmare by the way ) is being redesigned as we speak , T he Crome Molly mount will go all the way down to the roof ,and the turret cowls will screw off , making better access . another big mod !! you know , rod stiff told me , it never ends. !!! Mike Mike
  6. if you add the LCH to the SDS the extra current load with the water pump ect , ,7ampdraw, required a 30amp alt (on vac pump drive) .weight starts to creep up . cheers mike
  7. the LCH& the multipoint work exceptionally good combined with 62"x54" pitch prop. it's a much smoother running & idl.,a good temp. spread and a oil temp thermostat keeps the oil at 80 deg heads /water temp 95/100deg. works we'll on the pusher set up . cheers mike
  8. I was looking to donate to the forum , but couldn't find the right button ??? help . I had fun building the the new v/stab onto the existing fin post , but all came good . used the moulds to jig everything in place . cheers..
  9. hi every one , been a while since I posted , the day before I was off to austfly I got the dreaded flu that lasted for 6 weeks and then at Xmas igot another does , on top of a long hot summer in the flinders, and then I decided to make another v/stab , and now I'm ready again to hit the sky's , we are building an office in the hanger to house our new 3d printer , (15cubic ins.)we'll be able to make moulds and plastic parts for the avocet I need to go and do some flying with an instructor , not quite current . any way, I've been following the forum , some informative stuff . cheers Mike Sharples
  10. I'm back , ready to fly with a new tail fin V/Stab fitted ,
  11. How's the project going Evan ? Is this thing spider tracks? Cheers mike .
  12. How is fuel related problems related in any form to the make of the engine ? I'd like to see an investigation into fuel quality and variation (Mogas) .a lot of people are using it blindly , me included , up until now ,those little filters are easily clogged I pulled one out of a jab that ran only on avgas but only did about 15/20 hours per year and it was very hard to blow though ! I expect it would have caused an engine failure in the very near future . I would highly suggest every one check their fuel filters on a frequent basis ,especially if they have been using Mogas . Seems to me we can argue and defend , dispute , different makes of engine but maybe overlook the most ( statistically ) reason that engines fail and flight is prematurely cut short . Cheers mike
  13. I'm going with clogged fuel filter due to dirty Mogas , on both prangs this week
  14. Hi , looks like they axed my thread about dick heads , I replied with dissatisfaction at the sex refferance jokes and implied that he gets off on things like that , I then said , if he's offended in that then he now knows how I feel , I enjoy a joke , but some of them are just comic smut , we need some sort of button to express our disgust , Anyway , that's what I recon , Mike
  15. The fence might have busted the oil cooler? Seems like there's a tote going on
  16. Doing a leak down and introducing 80psi into a jab cyl , can cause an uncontrolled prop spin in any direction and can inflict enough peripheral impact force to the head to kill , or seriously injure !! It's definatly a two person job , with both knowing what their doing ,and strict safety protocol and communication . It's as dangerous as handling a loaded gun Mike
  17. Sounds like ELT's. ASIC. cards , paper maps (air services ) are being relegated to the obsolete as new technology comes up with far more reliable ,safer ,and far cheeper options, I'm starting to feel a bit ripped off financially and taken for a ride with people (casa) Telling me what indeed to be safe . In my prang , 2years ago last week ,the ELT' was found 2 weeks later underneath the wreck , along with my wallet , The iPhone had a smashed screen , but still worked for about 4 hours , it was used at Willcainia hospital to take a photo of my injured arm Warning !!! Graphic injury photo. Cheers Mike

  20. There's a big difference in operating a jabiru type aircraft at 600 kg and 700kg especially on the base leg to final approach , Try landing a j200 at max gross at 60 /65 kts and you'll give yourself a bit more than a surprise tuning base if your in a bit of a skid , they become quite doey and ineffective on the aileron , also sink rate , I'm just saying , if you've only ever flown a jabiru at say 544kg and then as the rules have changed to 600kg be tempted to load them to max 700kg or more , they in fact become a different beast , with some care and understanding ,( and I don't mean flowers and a table for two ) ! Cheers Mike Ps . This wont be the case for experianced pilots , having flown various types ,
  21. Turbo jab , well ill be ! Care to fill us all in on the details ? Mike
