  1. it's a good idea RickH , IT probably would have a chance at being accepted if instead of having to vote , It could be used as a Suggestion Box instead , that way a consensus could be reached and then considered . my 2 bob spent mike
  2. are you saying don't try a sample of fuel to water .,or don't try and set up a system with drums and water drains? sorry , I'm a bit thick sometimes ! there's no water in the drums ,and our ambient humidity here in Hawker averages 4%. the dry old desert, but hot in the summer ! mike edit ::: I get it , don't try the cigar thingy. told you I was a bit thick ( generally on Saturdays )
  3. just for the record; it's not my technique , that's the way jab does it , or did it .( last engine revisit was 2 1/2 years ago. I wasn't aware that it's being done as you say ,or camits assembly procedures . my engines that were done in front of me all had the cases inspected for flatness and were either accepted or rejected . cheers mike
  4. t i thought you need an open flame or spark ?
  5. I've had a drum of a gas for 10 months (opened) . was wondering if it's still ok to use?? smells & looks ok mike
  6. all the crankcase joining I've been involved with ( at jab engine shop ) ,after a good clean & inspection ,we're assembled DRY and then after tensioning a small amount of green locktite wick- in is run along the join ( along the top . not to much or it leaks in and can run down and make engine tight ( have seen this ). this makes sure that the mating crankcase halves are clean and dry before tensioning mike
  7. looks like an international drug deal
  8. ditto Alf, we all feel for you and your family ; your last words are ,oh so true. mike
  9. bonjour je suis la femme d'Avocet. Connez-vous Jean Cosnard je suis sa soeur? regards Joelle & mike
  10. where abouts in Adelaide are you , next time I'm down I wouldn't mind taking a look see . great work . cheers Mike
  11. w what sort of Mogas are you using ? 98 or 95 ? as I'm running LCH , so cooler heads . I've had issues with mogas 98 softening fuel lines because of aromatics . mike.
  12. imagine today trying to do a final inspection ! "designer to level 4 , it should fly , I think !!!?
  13. thanks Allan , this forum is a great source for knowledge , and inspiration , to say the least , the pitot tube is out the front and visible as a reference , I'm glad I put it there ! as it's really needed , I might put a string on it to aid further . mike
  14. yea, got that wrong , ventral , not dorsal , sorry. cross winds ok , have demonstrated about 10 knts so far , . it's different sitting up the front , having no t much of a reference . have only taxi tests so far on new v/fin , still trying to get my nerve back . I have to say at this point I'll be starting the test flying again from scratch. mike
  15. there are no sudden pitch changes , however, as the power is reduced , suddenly , the nose doesn't drop , but doesn't pitch up either , same for power on , the pitching moment isn't extreme , it's quite docile , it's a vey easy plane to fly compared to a jab . I would expect if it was a tractor those pitching effects with power would be more pronounced . mike
  16. I'm trying my third v/fin & dorsal fin combination to improve the stability . the first one was improved by adding the dorsal fin , the second attempt with a fatter v/fin went the other way , the third attempt was to add more area than the-first attempt , what do they say ; third time lucky! also I added 1/2 deg more incidence to wings so the the tail doesn't sag . mike
  17. I don't quite follow , are you saying the P51 / F 27 are a poor design , or just the Avocet ? mike
  18. I emailed camit to find out what costs are involved in bringing my second life engine up to camit spec : rely was , if I didn't have any specific issues , to leave it alone : my engine has LCH , SDS INJECTION 40 amp alt , not the camit one , this ones ,Aero Power ,that bolts to the vac attachment . mike.
  19. it seems that if the v/fin reaches the stall it creates the rudder lock , I was warned not to go to full rudder deflection in the Avocet until a "no rudder lock situation could be established ". mike
  20. thanks for that , it seems that those little dorsal fins make a lot of difference . cheers mike.
  21. yep , doesn't really give any theory mike
  22. sorry , not rudder lock , I should have said , rudder reversal in flight
  23. I've heard at various times the term Rudder lock , but I carn't seem to find any explanation as to what it is and how it works aerodynamically speaking . can any one please explain in detail . much appreciated . Mike
  24. I've been telling everybody that the voices I hear are caused by my fillings !! ???
