How it going getting a win yet RonIf there are any LW1 Lightwing owners still reading these posts, I am looking to get some general empty weights of these early aircraft that have had the old 532 diced and 582 or the now obsolete 618 fitted. We have recently purchased Lightwing serial number 039 that had a 618 fitted in 1996 after a factory rebuild and also 30 litre wing tanks forward of the main spar and have got a bit of a shock with our attempts to weigh it - Even adding 30 kg for the mods it's still miles over the original factory figure of 207 kg. (that's if the factory figures were not understated) If the AUW is still 400kg this makes it a single place!!!Cheers Ron
my weights where
RH Wheel 124 kg
LH wheel 124 kg
Tail wheel 24 kg
That for me works out at 272 kg guessing that Dry add full fuel 98 lts think that about 70 kg me 107 kg
plus a pax
no way that going to be less then 400 kg Mtow ??
I dont know the formula on how they work out the max empty weight ? Sorry

I would say that most RAA planes are in far better condition then our GA counter parts as people that fly for fun love there sport and you would find that most put hours of time into the pride and joys where the ga guys relies on lames to look after there craft and use there craft for transport rather then there second love but there are someI would have thought that lack of maintenance is a much bigger problem than modifications for all RAA planes.- 3

Was at the time M8 but your right was a good outcome she did well !I was joking Doug! The Journalist had a big chance for a free hit at getting it right with the Cessna tag and she missed it. -

same here have mine in the left forward wing root easily grabbed if required held in place via VelcroRankAmateur.....I agree with your sentiment entirely...a beacon is probably safer if carried on person, a very tragic inflight. Fire accident highlighted that a few years ago south of Charter Towers. I have my beacon mounted right by the door I would go out of, if I needed to exit rapidly, I leave a bit of lanyard hanging out also for an easy grab.Recently I trialed wearing it on my belt, and did a couple of flights that way, however I found it too uncomfortable and forgot to put it on a couple of times.....so it's now back to the position by the door.......thanks for your imput. -
yep that it all related better then trying too guess what could or could not have happenedI thought that this was an accidents and incidents forum but I suppose that one can be forgiven for thinking such a thing in view of how the thread got started in the first place. -

Unfortunate but people will always make bad choices weather in charge of machinery or every day choices there are informed or misinformed choices some don't have a choice someone else take that choice away but good management of the choices we do have will always lesson the chance of things going wrong not eliminating but managing the outcome to with your control
so this old clip is still very inlighting of the way things are today
