  1. Me personally I don't fly country that you can't land and I do all my flight by IFR"I follow roads " or I fly high enoth to make a road or paddock Plus my wife allways follow my path by the Ipad or Iphone Tracker so if the s.... dose hit the fan some one always know where I am .

I do have PLB which i keep close at hand aswell and allways tell her by phone on take off & landing s

It seem too work for me

  2. Your right Andy and Iam not wishing on the past but using it as a guilde trying too see where the Raa has derailed may be misguided in my opion but that the way I see it .

I feel that there should be class or groups for the different way we use our craft

Eg : 80 kn & below ultralight rag & tube ultralight cat

80 kn above say 115 kn LSA cat

Your Rv classes of craft would then be in experimental

Then ya super Cubs & Cessna should be VH ..not I light sports areas

But as you say we have to look forward and try and streamline or better manage what we have too limit people making mistates .

  3. I tend to blame member for these problems we are bringing these problem onto our selfs as most no longer fly ultralights .

Eg aircraft that have a max speed of 80 kn and below anything above 80 kn in my opinion are LSA just as an example a super cub or a Cessna 150 are not but can be reg as Raa ?

Member are wanting too get more faster craft and access to controlled areas which in my opinion is not and should not be a avaible to ultralights for safety reasons

If people wish to have these options then step up too general aviation levels ,

The idea of AUF / RAA back when I started to fly in the early 90s was fun affordable flying for the Joe blows that only wanted too go fly too there mate strip for a bbq and social group off like minded people ( which is what type of flying that I do I only do two longish trips twice a year eg old st / Woodstock ace field ) both about 280 mn the rest is local flights of my home area ,

I Always fly IFR. I follow roads and try too keep my craft in tip top condition as it is a two stroke which has served me well never failed over my 20 year or so flying behind one .

These days people are taking a lot more risk bye flying a gps routes as the crow flys over country that no single engine craft should in my opinion ,

Which is what causing a lot of our problems with people making wrong or bad choices with weather and committing to get there right or wrong mentality so the results are more mishaps and people losing there life

So the Boffin at the helm are seeing these problems happening over time and are trying to find ways of controlling or limit the amount of problems bye red tape and or controls in place to try and prevent it

I guess we are a race that wont too have more for less and we will always have this wail we travel this path ,.

This will upset a few or more but I think the fix is to take afew step back and look at the way we are classing these craft of today and maybe look at the certication classes and licenseing .

Go back and look at what the AUF stood for .

Just my two bob worth .

  4. In your case, it probably wouldn't be much, but you would be surprised how true this saying is for people in many industries and walks of life. They may go through a certain course, or be taught by a certain person, either of which could be considered scanty, but they don't know that, and they get a Certificate or a Licence, and even then may go through a large part of their life, then BANG - an event they were not taught to guard against changes their life.

But in life there are many things that change I don't think anyone could be fully taught for every acurance

  7. I like to see a mtow back to the 480 kg for the early light wings & a range of prop choices Engine upgrades eg : 532 / 582 & gear boxs upgrades for these craft would be a step in the right direction towards keeping these aircraft safe and affordable too enjoy for the future ! So u have my vote Arthur keep us informed with your ideas with this data base or listing , Iam keen too be involed .

  8. Bugger they Did ........... sad end to a nice little craft ,,,,good new no one was in her at the end ..

Hope they don`t drop it!Reminded me of what happened to a guy up here, years ago. His Pioneer Flight Star, had an engine failure shortly after taking off from a friends property and ended up in some light rain forest. It sustained hardly any damage but to get it out was going to be a real problem so he decide to lift it out with a helicopter. The chopper lifted it well above the trees but somehow he dropped it, and that was the end of his beloved Flight Star.

  9. DougI have a mate who is a LAME at Emerald, if you want ring me and I can put you onto him - he will know what is available at Emerald airport. The security at Emerald is over the top, I wouldn't recommend going there without a current ASIC - even with an ASIC they will not give you the gate code without going to the office to sign some agreement - I told them to go and play in the traffic.

During daytime hours you ring security and 2 "important people" will let you in after inspecting your ASIC card, but will not give you the gate code OR run into another pilot who will give it to you. The trouble is that they change it more regularly then Townsville, which is class C, so I guess it keeps the "important people" in a job.

A lot of terrorist activity there apparently!

I go there about 4 or 5 times a year and every time the gate code has been changed.

As Sue says, parking is another anti social situation.

Thanks frank it was a thought I was having but I don't have an asic card and don't plan on getting one and there seem too be a lot of negatives too the idea so if I do get work I think I just drive !

But thank you for the offer
