  1. I did some circuits in a Lightwing at Coominya today. Practised forced landings... turns out I can still do them well enough to live...

  3. I'd fly over the Bass Straight. Possibly in my t-bird... but, and this is telling, not with my daughter on board if it were my t-bird (has a 582). That all said, I had (a few weeks ago) been looking at two man life rafts... mostly out of curiosity. They weigh in at under 15kg when you can find them. Some more like 8. Even the "inshore use only" ones would increase your chances of survival (assuming you made it out of the aircraft with the liferaft) massively. I found it interesting these lads had those mattresses and survived... it also cemented my thought that a life-raft would be a wise and relatively cheap investment. Separately, did I miss something or did the boys inadvertently admit to not wearing their life jackets until after the engine failure? I thought you had to have one on when over water and not within glide of land.

  5. I actually looked up your airfield on the map. South of Sydney? Its gonna take me about a week to fly down there in the T-Bird.
  6. I looked into this a while ago. If you build a chopper, yes, you can maintain it. In fact, if you sell it later, according to the CASA Rotor section bloke who (eventually) called me back for a discussion, apparently YOU can still maintain it for the person you sold it to. They can't. I looked at the A600 Talon. Even went to the Sunshine Coast and sat in one to see if I fitted. I quite liked it, through I haven't been taken up in one. I walked away from the idea when I worked out how much the license would cost. It is now on the "will do eventually" list. Let us know how you go.

  11. Hi Seb, the T-bird II is still mine. Still learning though. Had a, um, can't-afford-litigation-and-flying-enforced break for a few months. ALW912 (with 912s Rotax) tricycle version basic empty weight is 302kg. Be aware, not all of these are LSA. Pay close attention to the 24 or 55 prefix. Eg, flight school at Coominya has a pair of them. One is 544kg the other is 600kg mtow. Other than one having a transponder, color differences and a three blade prop on one/two blade on the other, they are identical.

  14. Advertisements for C162 range from AUD$150,000 to $160,000. Theres a dealer in either NSW or Vic. I can't recall which. The $60,000 jab - you sure that wasn't the J120?
  15. I didn't have any where near the issues others speak of. However, calling and getting someone on the case seems to be the go. Transferring the T-Bird into my name did involve calling up after a few weeks to see why nothing had happened. I had posted my forms in. They had not been logged as received. I emailed them. A chap called and asked for further details. I sent the details. Done. Including payment for another year of reg. There was not a single day the rego wasn't current.
  16. I had email correspondence with the company that bought the Fly103 rights. They indicated if an Australian business was to take on a dealership of their plane they'd ensure the 103 was able to be certified in Australia as factory built. Currently not selling kits. Didn't sound like they wanted to. The inference I took was that it would currently be registerable in the same way any experimental plane from overseas brought herewould be. However, I never bothered to follow up and ask RAA to find out for sure.
  17. <insert tale of woe> But essentially I'm wondering if anyone feels like flying to Hillston and then somewhere like, say Goondiwindi. Right now... I'd be forever greatful. Anyone down this way and feels like taking me for an afternoon fly, get on to me pronto!! I've had about all I can stomach of this desert town.

QUESTION: has anyone got genuine experience with family (Federal Magistrate Court) intervention to prevent children being taken up as passengers in their parent's aircraft? If so, I'd love to hear from you privately. Before posting publicly, please be aware pages from this site have been attached as annexures to an affidavit... And it is likely this site will be monitored so consider that any tongue in cheek commentary can and will be used against me and will probably be out of context (including this post).

  20. It is just getting me to meetings and site/client visits. I was going to call CaSA in the morning, but learning about the Cirrus got me excited and I couldn't wait... I wanted at least a tentative answer.... And I'd say I got it. Will confirm though.
  21. Thanks for that Kaz... That I didn't find that suggests my google Kung fu is slipping! Business flying does most certainly seem to cover it. The items we'd deliver to clients most certainly wouldn't fit in either of those planes. PPL will need to happen ASAP.
