  1. I've accepted a new job... The company i'm starting at owns a Cirrus SR22 and a third share in a Cessna 182. The company is not an aviation business. Part of my role will require trips that these planes will make much more efficient. My question, ignoring endorsements... To take one myself I am assuming a PPL is all I need... However, if myself and one or two others decide to go together, is this the point I'd need a CPL? For clarity, flying in this situation is operationally no different to being the driver if we took a car (as far as the business is concerned). I'm not paid to fly, but I'd fly to wherever I (and others) needed to be. I've googled and searched and googled some more and am still unsure. Anyone know where the PPL vs CPL line is drawn in such situations?
  2. Ian, you just failed holidays 101. You need to learn the following five steps. Consider this your remedial class. Step one: set an email auto reply advising you'll get back to emails starting on a certain date. Step two: divert home phone to mobile for all calls. Step three: set message on mobile answering service to indicate caller should call back after a certain date as messages will not be checked. Step four: turn mobile off. Put in bottom drawer. Step five: whatever you like... you are now free.
  3. Why go chasing through the SAAA? The contacts for him are on his AeroV website...
  4. I have an error on the page... constantly... the insert picture button does nothing. If I wasn't being lazy I'd figure out a work around (I'm sure theres an easy url=etc etc code that would work). I'll email them to you... feel free to put them up.
  5. Send us an email address. I'll email some pics through to you.
  6. Big. I'm close to 65cm across the shoulders.
  7. As it happens, there is a chap down south who is having a shot at making a Saddler Vampire 2-seater. It will be GA if he makes it. He also still sells the single seat ones, I believe. http://www.aerov.com.au/ Call him up and have a chat, like I did when I was looking at the previously advertised one of these (he helped me realise I wouldn't fit in the single seater).
  8. Okay. So only limited content is able to be seen by visitors... pardon my mistake. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
  9. Ian, pardon my mistake if I am incorrect here, but isn't this forum viewable without being logged in? I was under the impression you need only to be a member to comment. About the public domain issue, as Kaz will no doubt assert, finding yourself in contempt of court can be as easy as discussing something one should have not, with just one other person... no matter how privately.
  10. There floor isn't clear, no. The forward section is, but under your legs isn't. Tidying up - yeah, I'll probably look at that, but the wiring appears to all stay in place - not an imediate concern. When I figure out where to mount an iPad mini I'll do something with the rest of the wires and I also need to figure out a solid floor situation (removeable, perhaps) for my daughter as her legs dangle over the cloth - can't expect her to hold them up. Deskpilot, I'll be out there later this week and will get a photo of the linkages on the elevators for you - if Tomo doesn't pinch it for a quick fly before I get there... if he does, I'll be assuming he'll get you the pics you want.
  11. Your Barrister must be a "cheap" one.
  12. So I guess what I said isn't so absurd then...
  13. I had a chat with my local board member last night. It seems this directive is related to audits - last year's. Something is still not up to scratch, when you read between the lines. For my part, I don't believe there is any need for hysterical panic about groundings. The reality is the directive will likely have been a wake-up call, or a shot across the bow, of sorts, to bring whatever issue it is to a head (sent from CASA to RAA). People need to relax a little - until such time as you are told to not fly your plane, there is nothing to panic about. Did you pay your rego but not receive a new rego card? Normally you'd fly on, safe in the knowledge that you've paid and a card will arrive at some point, yes? Would not the same apply here? No-one has been told there rego has lapsed, have they? Maybe I am too low strung... I can't register my new toy to me, currently. Paid for it last week, picked up yesterday... I'm simply going to use up its existing rego until February, though I doubt it'll take that long to sort out. Unstressed... that's me.
  14. It's got no tail drag wheel any more... fell off somewhere on the way. Might have to find a new one to fit there. The main gear legs are welded in a triangle bracket at the join. Looks less beefy than it actually is, plus by all accounts they are tough enough. Thanks tomo for getting it to its temporary home safely. Just as soon as that dome hangar is up it'll be living at Hogsonvale, Toowoomba. And I intend to enjoy the daylights out of it. One happy camper here.
  15. Aerotwin. There is a 40kg 50hp naturally aspirated 4-stroke version of the 65HP turboed one. Surely it would fit the bill...
  16. I am starting to think that it isn't illegal unless some upstart complains...
  17. Has anyone actually been reprimanded/disciplined/tutt-tutted/whatever in any formal capacity for landing on a beach? What is the difference between landing on a beach or landing something like a Super Petrel on a calm patch of water then running it up onto the beach? Cool pics and activity, by the way.
  18. There is no actual limit on how long they can remain on while they are in suitable condition. As long as the rubber isn't perishing the belt can stay on (assuming the kevlar band is still intacts). On my Buell 1125R, I shredded a belt at 12,000km (tore 16 teeth from it...) . Replaced under warranty as (words to the effect of) "that should not have happened. The kevlar is intact, the rubber has delaminated from the belt which suggests it only failed due to mishandling - probably got flattened out prior to installation allowing a crease to form and eventually a split." (There was no evidence of a stone getting caught which is the usual/most common cause for a prematurely failed belt). And if you can get a stone stuck between the cogs and a rubber belt on your plane, you are doing something very wrong. Now... I'm off look at tassles and consider how they might match this plane.
  19. He is not a gentleman... However, I will admit he has discerning tastes but only because his next project is my Landrover Series 3.
  20. Turbo, I'm not sure I've put a different opinion to kaz. And all the emotive stuff is precisely why I've asked a question. It seems at odds with the actuality of the letters. Much of my comment is more about organizational process than law... If you reread my post you'll see that (along with some rather annoying typos). A less politically correct way for me to have said the same thing may have been: "how are you guys arriving at these comments and views? There's nothing in the letters that indicates much of what is being said".
  21. It makes me scratch my head too, Dazza. There is clearly a reason, but the reason isn't clear. The staff could be overworked... the person responsible could be lazy... the outsource agency could be slack... it could be a server refresh error... or a few other reasons. I called today about my magazine and was told to wait until the end of the week... it's only the 10th, she said to me... my other subscriptions arrive rather rapidly on the month starting, sometimes the day before.
