  1. SnPilot, you have fabulous experience, we would all like to hear more about that. Especially the B58, or any of them for that matter. And aerial refuelling in the KC135 must have been interesting. I'd be very happy to hear more about your experiences.
  2. so now the roo is soup? You'd want to strain it, make sure there's no bits of prop in it.
  3. Thanks for the recommendation of Dave and Keith, and for the info re circuits. yes, I know about availability of the Tecnam, but I've only flown a Jabiru. I could go up in the Tecnam but would need to have an instructor. In fact, flying from an unfamiliar airfield I want an instructor anyway. Maybe the tecnam is the go. The Newcastle Flight Training website doesn't look quite right to me. I'm not sure what to make of that.
  4. In December I'll be at a conference which turns out to be across the road from YCNK Cessnock. Does anyone know of a flying school there that can hire me a Jabiru? This place: http://www.newcastleflighttraining.com.au/ says they are at Cessnock, but their website lists no contact details. It would be nice to see the place from the air.
  5. that's Paine Field, where 747s depart from. Boeing Field is closer to Seattle, and I think 737s fly out of there
  6. I suspect such action by them would be ultra vires, that is beyond their power. Here in SA the local govt act would give them the power to regulate would sort of business activities you can run, but flying is regulated by federal bodies. Some local councils doubtless take a different view, because they can be interfering busybodies and uninformed bullies. Have you checked the Qld equivalent of the local government act? Beware of councils (or any govt dept) that says "we have legal advice saying such-and-such" because they either make this up or their advice is in-house and biased towards them. I respond "well my legal advice is different, let's test it in court" and they usually go away. Especially if you add "you know of course that council will hang you out to dry when you lose". Hopefully our legal eagles here will have Qld experience with this.
  7. we did the Boeing at Everett tour, the underground tour, and finished with a few beers in the bar at the top of the Columbus tower -76 floors. A wonderful day. The Boeing factory is amazing, and the tour only costs $18. No cameras allowed. They make 747, 777 and 787 aircraft there. The building is v impressive: it could fit all of Disneyland with room to spare. When we got back to Seattle we had the Blue Angels overhead. Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone.
  8. I just got back from a week in Seattle, and while there I noticed these fat pipes connected to jets (eg 737s) while they are on the ground. About 500-600mm in diameter and obviously inflated with air (or some gas) and connected to a port on the bottom of the plane. I've never seen these here. Does anyone know what they are?
  9. I like Vancouver and Toronto, but I've never been to Seattle so I'm looking forward to it.
  10. yeah, me too, altho' I think it'd be nice to have someone like the Air Force train me to fly an F/A18!
  11. thanks, I'll check into that. I'm there August 1.
  12. his website shows him with a cessna 172, but it seems he'll use a cirrus. It says the trip will cost $400,000! You wonder how a 17yo gets that much together.
  13. I've got a spare day in Seattle next week. Can anyone think of anything interesting to do there? Thanks
  14. yes, that was the impression I got: that the factory was saying no. I don't own a jab but have thought of buying one. The idea of fitting a ballistic chute without factory support seems a bit scary: a major modification, one that would involve large forces.
  15. that's interesting, a couple of years ago I called one of the ballistic chute crowds, forget which one, and they told me they couldn't fit it to a Jab. Things must have changed, which is good. I wouldn't mind having one of those on board.
  16. I don't think they can be fitted to a Jabiru
  17. Very sad. From the photos, that strip seems to be surrounded by dense bushland.
  18. I won't try that at YMBD, particularly with there being only doors at one end of the hangar!
  19. front of your plane looks nice. What's the rest of it like?
  20. it's probably not as steep as it seems. No doubt an empty aircraft. Also they don't maintain the steep climb for long. I'd like to know their speed as they rotate.
  21. for a moment this had me thinking of the Humphrey pump: this internal combustion engine actually has a liquid piston! Altho' I doubt it will adapted for aviation anytime soon.
