  1. When you land at an airport with a tower it knows that you have landed because of your position and speed and brings up the airport diagram without you having to press anything. Really good when you arrive somewhere new. AvPlan EFB also does this - here and in the USA.
  2. Or you can buy Australian and use AvPlan EFB there.
  3. We wrote plain text weather about 18 months ago. Didn't turn it on as we realised it broke one of the contract requirements with NAIPS (that we pass through weather unmodified). We asked for this to be changed and are still waiting. We don't intend to break the conditions of our license agreements without something from the Airservices lawyers I'm afraid. As for the rest of the stuff they have put in - we've had it all for a while now :-)

    OneSky?

Thats exactly what we do in AvPlan.
  5. Thanks! We're over the moon at the moment. A fabulous recognition of the hard work of our team. Bevan..
  6. Turn the date on your iPad backwards and the data becomes accessible again.
  7. A new release is in beta testing at the moment and should be ready for all next week, but 'data on an SD card' isn't in it. Its on the list of things we need to do. We're aiming to get this done in the release after this one. Thanks Bevan..
  8. Hi Tex At the moment it cannot use data on an SD card, however we will be adding this capability shortly Thanks! Bevan..
  9. Hi We've done most testing with the Samsung 8" Tab 4, and Nexus 7". Most users so far appear to have the Nexus 7" or the samsung 10" . Basically anything with Android 4.1 should be OK. The more main-stream the better. To be an approved EFB the device needs a screen size >200mm screen size (about 7.5 inches across). Thanks Bevan..
  10. AvPlan is now (finally!) available on Android - see the announcement here about AvPlan Lite. All the details here: http://www.avsoft.com.au/avplan/avplan-lite-1-0-for-android-now-available/ AvPlan Lite will be available on the iPad shortly as well. Thanks Bevan
  11. Hi, give us a call on 03 8370 3024 and we'll help you out. You'll need to use the CoG limitations from the POH.
  12. Hi Folks We're doing a bit of a survey at the moment, so if you want to be in the draw for $500 worth of prizes (2 years full AvPlan EFB subscription plus a My Go Flight Folio for your iPad) head to this site. http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/1709998/AvPlan-EFB-Survey We're really interested in what you have to tell us, so don't be shy! Thanks! Bevan..
  13. Hi Folks I would like to let you know that the AOPA Airfield Directory is now available as an app on iPad's, iPhones and Android Tablets and Phones. Details are on the website at http://afd.avsoft.com.au Its available on a subscription basis for $39 per year when purchased on that website. There is a built-in feedback button for each airport, so if you find something that is missing, let us know so we can amend the data for everyone. Let us know what you think! Thanks Bevan..
  14. Check out http://vhmdx.blogspot.com.au Lots of information there about previous searches. Good luck! One of Australia's enduring aviation mysteries.
  15. Good question - you can't as yet. I doubt there is yet an ATO who would accept a candidate using just an iPad on a PPL test though. There are some schools about who have incorporated iPad's as part of the training syllabus (recognising that pilots are going to use them after they finish, so better to train them on how to use it) but all still teach the use of paper charts, basic map reading etc. I still think it is important to teach these skills - remember the aeroplane on the map is a situational awareness tool only. Bevan..
  16. You do not require a backup, but it is recommended (in CAAP 233) you carry one. A backup can be another EFB (i.e. another iPad) - this is the reason we at AvPlan allow you to share the one subscription over multiple devices. Just make sure it is charged, in reach and not left in the sun.. When I fly I carry two iPad's and also print the ERSA pages for the route, flight plan, weather etc if I am going a long distance. Bevan..
  17. That's a great idea. Not sure that the GPS is up to the level of vertical accuracy required however. Well experiment with it and see how useful it is. Thanks, Bevan..
  18. Its just not quite so simple. Yes the device has certain transmitters in it (wifi, cellular) but there is only so much you can do without establishing a link using those underlying hardware types. Those link types require some sort of authentication/trust relationships to be established, so you can't just broadcast your position and have it just work. There are some possibilities when you have 3G coverage which we are experimenting with, but it relies on you having 3G coverage. The ideal will be global fitment of ADSB. There are a few local developments in this space which will become public in the coming months which will make this much more achievable than it was before. Bevan..
  19. The Zaon was a great unit and they had a new version which did mode-C and ADSB. We just began adding support for it in AvPlan when we found the company making them had disappeared. (When I tried to order a test unit). Given it is a dead product we aren't going to add support for it now unfortunately, and I don't know of anyone making a similar unit. I will be over in Florida at Sun n Fun week after next so I will search for someone doing such a box and let you all know if I am successful. Bevan..
  20. That was me replying, and to be honest, yours was only the first or second time it was requested and at the time that was my honest answer. Given that in the interim more people have asked for it, plus we have a better method of actually doing it, its become more likely we will do it. I certainly didn't mean to sound like I was brushing you off, but I guess a brief email sometimes appears so. Thanks, Bevan..
  21. We'll see what we can do to add printing soon - thanks for the feedback! Bevan..
  22. Yup, support for a raspberry pi based adsb receiver will come in the next release. We have supported adsb for a while using 3rd party adsb receivers (which have gps and AHRS as well) Plus a lot of other really useful stuff as well.
  23. I can assure you that we at AvPlan EFB always want to hear from the pilots who use our app, and are always interested in feedback, suggestions etc!
