  1. Help when you can. That would be great. Ta,.
  2. I have picked up a transceiver being a KING 92KY. I need the pinout for the 30 pin plug on the rear. I think these are fairly common but cannot find it on the web. If someone has it would be greatly appeciated. Cheers, Spriteah.
  3. What should you do! Brad, I was in a similar spot to you. Sold my dirtbike, sold my boat and got right into training. I started to do GA but spoke with a stranger who explained the benefits of going RAA. Then if you want cross to GA (save lots of money) you can carry your hours. My GA training was $258 per hour learning in a 30yo+ Cessna152. When I changed to Recreational my lessons where $155 per hour in a late model tecnam92 which in my oppinion is a much better aircraft. Go for an intro flight. See if you like the instructor then get into it. Try to train at least once a week, more if you have time and money. If you are like me you will not look back. I have just finished my navigation. PS if they have a Gazelle they are great fun to fly. Good luck. Spriteah.
  4. Can you fly without doors? Thanks for the reply Rocko. Can you fly without the doors on? And can you tell me how it handles bumpy conditions. Thermals etc.... Jim.
  5. Can anyone tell me what model Jab this would be? Any help appreciated. Cheers, jim. http://www.duttondirect.com/aviation/view/make:jabiru/model:jabiru/id:110
  6. jets and larger aircraft Brentc thats an interesting comment. As a new pilot of RAA qualification and 20hrs GA (some 20 years ago and 8 recently) I'm not fully versed on the 1500ft normal circuit heights for larger/faster aircraft. Can someone clarify that for me. As I will enter unfamiliar airports at 1500 agl with calls. Observe the sock and layout. Make selection. Call and decend at a suitable location then enter the circuit at 1000agl. Is that not correct? Jim.
  7. Entering Circuit Thats pretty much the way I have been taught to enter a circuit. And Aircraft overflying should be at least another 500 above approach height. Interesting aboout the ERSA though. Same with Maps. Lots a recent changes to maps in Victoria. Jim.
  8. Hello all. Just another quick question. Do pilots here have any thoughts of the Hanuman? What it's like to fly? Handling. Quality? Expected life of Dacron? And how much is a Jab 2.2 motor (new)? ThAnks in advance for any replies. Cheers, Jim.
  9. Hello all, Myself and another are deparately looking to purchase a great aircraft on a small budget... I see there is a GA912 advertised in QLD and looks very clean and is factory built. Can people give me their views on the aircraft. Speed, x-country, landings? (it's a tail dragger), comfort (im 6'1') Anything else greatly appreciated? Value for money? Jim.
  10. Hello all, Myself and another are deparately looking to purchase a great aircraft on a small budget... I see there is a GA912 advertised in QLD for mid thirties and looks very clean and is factory built. Can people give me their views on the aircraft. Speed, x-country, landings? (it's a tail dragger), comfort (im 6'1') Anything else greatly appreciated? Value for money? Jim.
  11. Diesel Thanks for that clarification Matt and appoligies to Maz. I think the newer diesel tech is based around conventional diesel fuels. Time will tell. spriteah
  12. Diesel Red Cessna has a new 172 that is diesel. Very nice, light and powerful but not cheap, then again no cessnas are!!!!
  13. dIESEL Australian diesel is now at a very high standard (ie Low sulphur) well at least Shell's is. Hence you are starting to see lots of new cars with diesel motors. They have been in Europe for years but only just comming here as our fuel is now good enough. And Maz? Little unsure what you are saying. Your friend puts jet (kero) in his diesel? Somthing odd in that I think. Spriteah.
  14. Some dont have carby heat lever I'm flying a Tecnam that draws heat from a heated circuit always. Its a 100hp Rotax. Although you lose some power it seems like a sensible idea to me!!!!
  15. Multi Tasking I see that a lot on my way to work. Women driving whilst looking in the rear view mirror and applying makeup.:;)1:
  16. My thoughts Don't make it too big. Leave land for expansion but intially no more that 40 blocks. Design it so that the runways are a few hundred metres from the housing as is the visitor parking, workshops and fueling. Need to be able to build hanger on your block and access same. Day time operation mainly. Small shop (wont support a big one). All staff 6ft attractive single women.....:) Not much to ask.
  17. Thanks Brent. I have done a lot of searching in the states and am quickly giving up on the idea. For those that are interested it's advertised on ebay at the min. Cheers, Jim. PS Brent spoke with Eugene and might have a look at that LSA.
  18. Has anyone built one? Owned one? Flown in one and if so what was your opinnion of the plane? Jim.
  19. USA Prices are dropping due to economy http://www.barnstormers.com/eFLYER/2008/007-eFLYER.html Looking at the above web site I will watch with interest as to what the prices do here in Aust and the interest rate sneaks up. I personally think that lots of potential rec flyers will be cautious of purchasing at the min until we know how hard the morgage chrisis in the states will transfer onto Australia. No one is sure how much our banks will get caught in it. The commonwealth is very exposed it is reported. Jim
  20. Yep you cannot rejoin it. Have to cut cable and put new plug on it. Go to electronics shop (repair) and ask them nicely. Maybe buy the connector first from dick smith or similar. Should cost about 4-5 dollars max on BNC connector and repair hopefully 10 bucks. If not can post it to me in vic with return mail and I'll do it. It's a five minute job.
  21. If you are talking about the antenna connection that attaches to the radio connector ie: Black cable 50ohm to silver connector it is not normally glued. Depending on the type of connector it may have been soldered on the core and crimped or soldered on the core and a compression fitting to the shield (being the out metal sheath). Its an easy fix if that is what has separated. You can buy a new connector at dick smith or any electronics store and search web for instructions. You will need to be able to solder (small tip). Does that help?
  22. Hi Carl and welcome, Im looking for a plane also at min. Jabs are proven and australian so giving them some thought. Make sure you fly some as some models are a little tricky on take off and landings. Cheers, Jim PS I would love a J230!!!!!
  23. I and a few others are looking to but a syndicate aircraft. Have been considering a J160 SP or some similar type. Now I can see that more and more are being advertised but not getting purchased and with the release of the new no frills trainer from Jab at $57k factory built im wondering if there will be a influx of ex trainers hit the second hand market which will drop the price of all Jabs (Smaller size ones anyway)? Any oppinions?
  24. What I have found is casa has all the info on GA. But almost nothing on Ultralight. And correct me if I am wrong but we do not have to report incidents to casa unless we venture into their world. Jim.
  25. Well if you want a passenger I'll be keen to drop up.
