  1. Watched this man for the first time in Geelong on the 25th of Jan. Was a great performace at Skandia week. What a sad loss. Thoughts for his family and friends. Lets be safe up there...... Jim
  2. Shags. Look at the RV12. On vans airforce page in forums you will find lots of info. I've got one in the garage. Just trying to find some time. Jim
  3. Maj, The instrument in the pic is actually only turn and bank. However I have fitted and flown with a few of the combo that include A/H. I do like them however there is a small delay in the operation. They are using air pressure to determine what angle to show. If you want some more info about them PM and I will get some for you. Jim.
  4. I always say to people find and instructor that you like and can enjoy being around. If you are not happy try another... A lot of learning depends on how your relationship with the teacher is. Just like school or uni. And well done. For those near solo remember it is no different from when u training. Except you have gotten rid on the annoying guy/gal in the right seat. Soon after Solo you will get PAX endorse then you get back the annoy in the pass seat!!!!!! Jim Geelong Sports Aviators.
  5. Wow, this thread got some serious action. Matt I concur with your comments and many of the others in this chat. As aviators we must always try to promote the good. As members of clubs I believe we should always try to give back to the community. I say that in the belief that as Australians we are given great privileges. What other country can you say to yourself hey Im going to buy a plane and fly it (and yes there are some, but lots of people just hope for food!). As to plane safety any small plane is a light aircraft, GA or Ultralight. As we seek a weight increase the lines will be blured more. As has been previously stated we must try to improve the name of the industry, hobby. I suggest all RAA peoples should chat about the sport, always stay within the rules and maintain a high level of safety. Then the only media we will get is the charity work we conduct as clubs and thanks from the community. Cheers, Jim Geelong Sports Aviators.
  6. Reading all the news articles Im puzzled what occured? Was he landing? Anyone got any clues as to what the cause may have been? Jim
  7. Interesting they list the damage to aircraft as destroyed. Is there a follow up report stating that it has been located? Jim
  8. Can anyone tell me a good supplyer of 2 place intercoms VOX that will intergrate with Icom A200? Any advice welcomed. Jim
  9. I posted some comments under the radio group on that one Bush.
  10. I thought Student was referring to my comment about let me look after your money which of course was a joke. As to my comments for shares it is a great time to buy. I am investing all money mine and borrowed I can get my hands onto. Jim.
  11. A couple of things. Depending on your Transceiver (comms) you might have a music input. That will make it easy and cut out music when there is traffic. Alternatively you may have an intercom that has music input. That can also be used. If you have neither of above then you can use a box. If email me I can refer you to a suitable product (Ian remove if that is against policy). One concern that you have using a car system is that you need to use a low level output. If you connect the speaker out to your plane you will probably cause damage and it will not be too the radio. If you get a radio that has a low level output (normally RCA plugs) then that can be used. Alternatively you can place resistance into the loop but this I cannot do over the net. Check the current draw on the radio also. Some use a bit. Cheers Jim Tatlock L2 Austec Avionics
  12. Scan, You wont take a hit on the exchange rate. Six months ago the AUD was at 0.98 to the USD. It is now in the high 0.60's. The exchange from the pound to AUD would give you relatively good transfer. If I were you however I would put a heap of my money into top 100 shares. Keep enough to buy a good kit or completed plane. Watch the share market for the next few years and when it recovers you would be in a pretty good spot. Or just put the money in my care. I'll look after you!! Jim.
  13. Im about $30 per week in shared hanger.
  14. Hello peoples, Im having problems with a SL40 that sometimes (not always) has a high pitched squeal on transmint. It does not seem to be feedback. I have david clark headsets. It wont occur if both mikes are out. Any idea's. Jim.
  15. Ken, Next year we will increase the temp by 5 degrees and reduce wind to 5 knots. Though I did enjoy watching the 172 land.
  16. Thanks to all that attended the day. It was a fantastic success and we are already planning next years. Check out the link to see some pics (scroll down). Flickr: Taipan Images' Photostream Cheers, Jim.
  17. We are all set for a great day. Lots to do and see. Aerobatics, Antiques and more. Kids activities!!!! Hope to see you there. See previous posts for more info.... Jim
  18. And Rocko I might say that the EIS and plane are performing beautifully. About to pass the 100 hour mark. Jim
  19. Well further to that. If you gain the consent of Jabiru to install the radio or conduct any modifications then it would be ok. However, I doubt Jab will do that for you. And when I say consent if will need to be in writing. That is why they say you need to order it how you want it. Secondly, although it would still be an LSA if you modify it, the classification will change to LSA Experimental. It can no longer be used for commercial purposes. Thanks my interpretation of SECTION 3.5.3 Technical Manual. Jim
  20. I think it can have a radio. But not be classified as LSA anymore. Interesting.
  21. The comment made that you can modify your own lsa I think is a little misleading. Jabiru can modify by installing options such as radio's gps etc... But I'm not sure that anyone else can (just because they do). I think this would put you outside the LSA boundarys. And the maintenance log would have to show it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here!!!! Jim
