  1. If anyone is unhappy with there Jabiru's i will kindly take them off there hands for a fee ;). Glad you are ok, Just make sure you learn from a mistake ? Wether it be yours or someone else's.
  2. hi linda and brian how r we ? when did you hear me at bacchus ? my radio calls are not bad (so i think) if only the navs where a bit better. i am going to hire another aircraft soon and do one in an aircraft that is not my usual one and see if it is something wrong with the A/C. on my second big navx kirsty done the paperwork, getting the ersa ready Etc she also worked out how to use a garmin 296 in 2 minutes flat thank god for the navigator ;). but i did havve to keep reminding her fuel pump was for the pilot only (she got very gun hoe) but she was happy when she got to flick the landing light on and off :) how is the JAB going. will have to pop over and have a look see...
  3. humm. i will have my CFI go over the aircraft in question and have a look for me...
  4. hum... i wonder, let me check on a few things. and i will get back to you tommorrow, but in ansewr to your question i fly 1 of 2 ways. 1 i fly pureley off magnetic compass. but sometimes (if fitted) i get my track using the efis then see what the compass reads then follow the compass headding. i have used the first method the 2 times i have been off track. using the seccond method i have never had a problem. but hey all a/c dont have an efis do they ? maybe the aircraft i am flying (the one i get off track in) has an instrument problem ? or as you said a rigging problem. as for flying with an unballanced a/c u might b right. i will keep closser tabs on that one.
  5. we had a westerly at about 5KTS. G/Speed was around 98 KTS.
  6. Hi all went for a FIX (Not my 3Rd NavX) yesterday in the J160. I had my friend who is a GA/RA Pilot (Peter) departed YBLT accross to YLED, over my model aircraft club in bacchus marsh, over to laverton, over point cook, down to werribee south, across to YBLT. this was not a NavX as such just went for a quick buzz in my local area for the required "FIX". I flew with no actual flight plan just a couple of lines on the map, required Doc's and was just trying to get a Visual feel for flying trying to place things on my map to the ground which worked a treat BUT I did however find one thing, i keep drifting to the right of track all the time. i have noticed this is a habbit i have fallen into. although i had no GPS or anything yeaterday i had did notice i always wanter to drift right. has anyone else had this sort of thing happen ? Either way yesterday was a success, Peter said although i can get to where i am going i need a little Nav work of which he has offered to help with but did comment on my landings and said they are some of the best he has seen and my general flying was Excelent Ah well all this flying all i need is my own plane now  Will someone lend my $20,000
  7. Nice Thanks. will be interesting to see if the Metar one works in australia.
  8. Er. me is thinking best to stay away then....
  9. what i do is this. the map says point A to point B is 283 Degrease i instantly remove 11 Degrease to bring it down to 272 Degrease. then i go to the AreaFor and take the wind and remove 11 Degrease (This is what i forgot to do the other day stupidly) then get the whizz wheel and dial in the wind with the 11 Degrease removed from the equation (so if the AreaFor was 093/21 i would put 082 under the true index) then set on any even number mark the wind velocity up from the centre point, turn to set my Magnetic heading which here is 272 Deg, then move the scale to set the mark i have made on the 100 line (providing my aircrafts TAS is 100) then my actual IAS will be on the centre point, if the mark is to the left of centre i subtract the amount from my Magnetic heading or to the right i add to the maps magnetic heading. you all wanna hear somthing funny i have just noticed 2 pencil marks on my whizz wheel Now i think i know where i have gone wrong..... i am going to crawl back into my hole now. my Instructor warned me about this.....
  10. cool. i will have a look when you get it drawn up. but for now untill i findout where i am going wrong i will stick to the basics, like the overfly.
  11. cool i will play with it a little and see how it goes.
  12. 6 minute markers ? so do you do them after you know the winds or do you do them based on you aircrafts TAS. I will take a stab and say it would be on the speed expected on the day to give you better indication of where you are. but had to ask.
  13. and yes because the winds where everywhere the compass was a mongrel i like Ian's gazelle as it has a DG. but i think i need to get up in the air and wait till the compass settles then look at a land mark on the horizon and fly to it, but as i said easier said than done... a bit more practice
  14. i am using 10 mile markers which are 2 miles either side of track. i think there are only 2 ways to navigate, stuff what the wind is doing and look out the window or use a gps. i have learnt a lesson and that is to not rely on what the wind says and concerntrate on what the ground says.......... but it is harder than it looks.
  15. Yep they are Post. Kirsty is my fiance who was helping me to find bits on the ground that looked like the map. she is good with electronic stuff so i threw the Garmin 296 at her and said here operate this . Not sure why i was so far off track ? but i do know i did not deduct my magnetic variation from the Areafor durning the planning, this would account for 11 degrease but not the 20 odd degrease i had. This is another reason i will be doing my next nav and keeping a meticulous log of what i do and posting it here for you all to wander experienced eyes over. i will be making long legs and keeping them in areas like lethbridge, colac, out to queenscliff then tooradin, so i am over areas i know by ground but not to well in the air, so if i do get disorientated i can easily find a huge land mark (like the city) and know where i am. Actualy just a thought, have not been up to ararat, horsham way, might do that as there is less to see and more to concentrate on. cant wait to do my next navx and keep a better mental note of where i am going and what i am doing. maybe in a couple of weeks.
  16. Hi thanks for the reply's. i am not into downloading alot of stuff, "carefull how i word this" but i need a windows disc of which i am getting and i think mr Gates will not mind if i download it as long as i have a genuine Key "like i do". but as for everyone downloading day in and day out of the latest and greatest i don't agree with it, but as it has been stated each to there own. great place to get things like windows discs you have misplaced.
  17. Er..... Yup got you on that one... Lose lips sink ships as they say... what do you mean by this ? who are they ?RIAA or MPAA, despite it's use for perfectly legal stuff.
  18. I think on takeoff i was keeping too much of an eye out for other aircraft, watching the instruments to much and not keeping the eye out the window, like i should have been. you are right i will make darn sure i will not do that again.
  19. Can someone please Explain how Torrens work ?
  20. Hi Nev, yeah i know mate, saw an oppertunity for a rant. my entire family think i am mad thats all i hear from them, and you are right i should just ignor them the dont know what they are missing out on... yep well aware i have a certificate not a license just a figure of speach i guess. when are we getting together for a fly (need a scribe for NavX # 3)
  21. WELL SAID MIKE We should go to the Opposition's paper and ask them to wright an editorial on how safe "ultralight" flying is, how it has changed Etc A whole page dedicated to Rec flying and flying in general. i know it is a long shot but hey could you imagine if a big paper wrote a large cover story about Rec aviation Etc how many more people could get to see the light. you say "why would a paper do that" well to make the other paper who wrote that XXXX and bull story look like a wanker... i do not bother telling people i have my "ultralight" license anymore i just say i have my pilots license and they say "wow you can fly cessnas and stuff like that" i just say yeah whatever. if you mention you have an ultralight license they say "oh not those dangerous things, your mad" of which i reply nearly always "you are an uneducated fool", this worked on a friend of mine who cracked the wobblies with me for treating him like an idiot, so i replied shut your mouth untill you have been in one..., now he is half way through his rec license and is loving it. all because he has been informed. SORRY
  22. Hi all, does anyone around the melbourne area have a 2 place aeropup ? i recently had a look at some pic's and was impressed by the performance. it will just be another one to go on the list of maybe's. would not mind seeing one in the flesh. my only question is "is it hard to cover a "real" plane ? i am use to covering models
  23. I love my mac don't get me wrong. the only reason i went from iPhone to Htc Touch was the OziExplorer software. If you have never used a Mac you dont know what you are missing out on
  24. Hi all i am after a Genuine Windows XP Disc to lend. my Apple Mac is running Mac OSX abd i have installed boot camp and wish to run windows. I have my own product key from my Windows laptop but the laptop comes with everything pre installed so no disc. The windows xp disc myst be a service pack 2. if not no worries i can make it a service pack 2. Without it i can not run my OziExplorer ?
  25. Hi Ross yeah i know but i like all the goodies  . You have yours showing Magnetic but what i you have a wind from the west and you are flying north ? not that this will matter for me i will just do a John Howard and "follow the yellow brick road"
