  1. LOL the Mate in question who is building the Rand KR-2S Has just sold his long-eze,. done a bit of flying in her, Lycoming 300 or something is definitely a VH machine. Cruise at 155 Kts. Mongrel to build. a retired man built my mates in Frankston and it took him 10 years. He was to busy flying the Long-EzE hence the near stop on the KR-2S. (he is actually building the Rand KR-2S but narrowed down for single seat use) Pics are coming.
  2. Ever wondered why there is "Minties" Wrappers all over the A/C flaw when i have used an A/C ? ANSEWR = To let my head feel better. For some reason i can not get my head to "equalize" so i chew minties. I also take a bottle of coke to wash the minties down. I hate holding my nose and blowing for some reason it hurts me. I did fly with a Cold one time and was planning a few hour trip, I got into the CCT and done 1 lap packed up my bags and went home, way to painful. I will take a bag of chips with me next i have to see that one
  3. LOL You call shotgun Ya reckon ? I think you might be in with a good chance.
  4. So this means we will be able to buy new thrusters ? if so will the T300 be on the list or just the 600? Is there any indication of cost ?
  5. Yep alot of people say they are tight and judging by the KR-1 i have seen they are, hence why peter widened his. It is common practice to widen the cockpit a little (they say 4" is the best) and does not alter any of the other specs like stall speeds Etc. Love the Afoardaplane but a tad slow, but it is better than what i have now.......NOTHING
  6. Yep I think she is special. On my second Nav It was Kirsty's first flight in an Airplane. It took 2 months of careful planning to get her up there. She helped with the planning, where we where going, Etc. Kirsty also helped when i realized we where not where we where suppose to be but aiding in navigation, holding the controls for 2 minutes while i had a drink Etc. At the end of the flight, a first timer could, read a map, use a GPS, had first hand knowledge of engine failures, fly straight and level, spot airports. Man i can not believe how Kirsty took to it, like a Pro. BUT I did have to smack her hand when she went to turn the fuel pump off on cross wind. I let her know the only switch she could touch was the landing light nothing else but she got excited and well...... monkey see monkey do, the monkey decided he did not turn it off this time i might have to do that for him..... Will she fly again. Yep BUT she was turned off by the heavy turbulence we encountered on the first day, Said nothi'n short of me dying in flight she does not like touching the "Joystick" as she called it. but said she thoroughly enjoyed it and will fly again as long as the sky's are blue. We will probably fly to NatFly together. Anyway sorry for hijacking the thread.
  7. Hi all, My mate is peter, and he lives in Melbourne. he is building a KR-1 modified with a slightly wider fuzz. He has a Jab 1.6 (1600) engine for it but the jab 2.2 will bolt straight in without modification. He has the 1.6 due to getting it for a slab of beer. why build the KR-1 when you can build the KR-2 for approx. 1K more, jee wizz i don't think it would even be that much more. I would rather 2 seats than one. the Jab 2.2 will be more than sufficient in the front of the KR-2 I will Endeavor to get some pics of the aircraft this weekend to show you all. In regards to building and breaking the 51% rule, we can all make the jigs Etc but you have to lay the glass, cut bits and pieces BUT you can have friends help you as long as you are in control of the building, it is a catch 22 but workable. most of this plane is in the preparation so you can have people help with this. I have downloaded a heap of information and buildings articles of this plane, not an easy feat on your own but with friends it would be great, easy and very do-able. Remember if we done this a J 2.2 engine is say $13000 if 5 of us built these we go to jabiru and say "we want 5 how much" we might save 1K each ? not sure. but the same the wood, metal, props, instruments Etc you get the drift.... I must admit i like the look of the KR-2S Relay nice, sleek and cruises bloody fast.
  8. On my second solo nav my fiance asked me what would happen if the engine stopped. instantly o snapped the throttle shut and she said "what the hell are you doing" I replied "good practice you sprung it on me, lets see if i can do it" Kirsty asked if i had done these before of which i replied "nope when me and the Instructor practice he totally stops the engine", this gave her the confidence to continue, with the pax settled, went through the FMCOST checks and found a paddock, gave the necessary "FAKE" calls and lined up, got kirsty to pull off the glasses and thongs, "pretend to pop the door", gave the usual briefing, got to the threshold Carb heat to cold, power to 50% level off engine all good and power off and away. Very good practice for me, Kirsty was impressed how they flew without an engine (or at idle). Not relay legal to practice emergency procedures with PAX but in my opinion all was safe, it gave me a genuine practice session and Kirsty now knows you do not need an engine to fly.
  9. Yep that may be right but you are missing the principal of my idea behind it. Your idea is to get experienced people together to build and fly hi powered A/C who have the money and know how to do so, this will enable them to save a bit of cash and get to learn new methods of building, new friendships as was mentioned Etc which to you is a commendable thing you are trying to achieve. My idea is to give people who don't have allot of money the opportunity to build and fly there very own A/C at very little cost and it will also give the builder, (most of whom will be new pilots with very limited knowledge, money Etc) the opportunity to learn about A/C structures, test flights Etc, all of the fundamentals which will be vital in a new pilots career wether it be private or commercial. This will also give the budding fresh pilot like myself a better understanding as to how these things get into the air, Maintenance tequnique, Etc. Believe me, if i could afford to run a 6 Cyl Jabb i would be the first to put my hand up for your project (would love to do 100 + Kts in my own airplane) but unfortunately not only can i not afford the money to run a 6 Cyl jabb I can't Afford the $80 Odd K to build a kit. Lets hope both projects get into the "production" stage rather than just a thought. It would be great to see it relay take off.
  10. I like the way you think. I am thinking on a different level. For those who just want something to fly I would like to see something like a group of people building things like 2 seat thrusters with Rotax 582's. Would give anything to be in a group building a few new thrusters together.....
  11. I will keep a tabs on this thread as i am heavily interested.
  12. Are you wanting to build planes on a budget or planes to sell ?
  13. What would be a genuine cost of this aircraft if we were to build it ? (including a donk ?) What donk would be preferred...
  14. WOW i love it. i always wanted to fly an Extra 300 Etc but this will do  Please tell me more...
  15. Hi Mathew, Maybe hire a factory for a period of time say 2 months and everybody get together for that time and just build......... (hey i will pay for the factory ). Just a thought
  16. Yep this is true, i am not sure if this plane is aerobatic BUT is would be cheap...... What sort of plane are you thinking of ?I am very interested in this project but would be limited by funds.
  17. Oh yeah and you can build this thing for around the $15,000 mark not including Engine, So around the $30,000 including a Jabiru 2.2. My mate has Used Certified wood, made everything himself and he estimates it will cost him all up (not including engine as he has a J 1.6 on hand) around the $8-10K mark.
  18. Here she is... %5Bimg%5Dhttp%3A//img65.imageshack.us/img65/3157/marcelpz0.jpg By adrianlewer at 2009-01-15[/img]
  19. WOW I love the idea and would love to talk further on this. Just an idea what about the Rand KR Series Aircraft. there is the KR 1 which is a single seat and the KR 2 which obviously is a 2 seat. a friend is building the KR 1 but has slightly modified the fuzz to be a bit wider. Looks easy enough to build but it is a daunting task for me. But if we had the manpower and tooling we could make these like a production line. KR Home Page
  20. I'ts a shame as I love the Tomahawk.
  21. I think my Heading was spot on to what my calculations said i should be. I done an overhead departure, got my heading near enough, got the speed, height in toe about 3Nm from the Aerodrome Leveled off and waited for a calm moment to see what the compass was doing. Then adjusted accordingly, picked a point to the aircraft was flying to ahead and from there only had a glance at the compass. I had 1 - 2 glances at the compass and realized the magnetic track looked good but the true track was nothing like it. But I am hopping I found my error with the extra "Marks" on the Whizz Wheel. All my flights in this particular aircraft have been "Off Track" but in others including slower aircraft they have been good. ? I will just have to be more diligent with my planning and flying.
  22. Oh and for what it is worth, i find all Jabiru's i have flown very touchy on landing. On takeoff i make sure i feed power on until i am rolling straight then give her all the herbs. Just my personal observation.
