  1. Congratulations scre80, I know exactly how you feel. I just purchased my first plane 2 days ago. A Jabiru LSA 55.I'm currently sitting in Wollongong waiting for the weather to clear so I can fly her back home to Qld. Hoping to begin the journey today. Like you I also can't thank my lovely and supportive wife without whom this would not have been possible.

    Cheers, Tony

Fantastic, safe travels back. Fortunately for me, mine is already at the airfield, so I have been able to go over it lots and test fly it more than you usually would be able to. Just have to wait 1 more week!!

  2. Fuel flow readings are a good thing. Having a total flow indication as well is even better. It doesn't eliminate the possibility of a fuel leak upsetting your day or someone stealing fuel from you overnight. It's also good if you have a manually controlled mixture on the carb, to help you quickly get your settings. Nev

Agree. Check fuel level (actual) before each flight.

  3. When I was a boy I wanted to fly, Getting my licence was a dream come true. Flying my brand new Jabiru from Bundaberg back to Gawler was beyond anything I ever thought possible. Looking forward to eyeballing it when it arrives.

One day I will do that trip from or to Bundaberg. The aircraft is already at Gawler, you will see it out soon enough!

  4. Well I am most likely crazy, but come in just over a week I will be owning my very first aircraft!! Very exciting time. It is a Zodiac 601 HDS.

Can say enough good words for my supportive wife (AKA her permissions)

I am sure people on here understand my excitement!!!

So watch out for one flying around SA soon!!. And hopefully visiting some other states at some stage.

  5. The return line line is separated from the fuel spider and moved toward the mech pump to allow insertion of the FF sender. I will try and get some photos and post them up tomorrow.

Cheers, from what I have read, you can have the return line going either back to the fuel tank or back near where the line comes out of the tank (Correct me if I am wrong). If you do the second way though, you need to have it on the correct side of the electric fuel pump.

  6. Yes, but you can still get the same accuracy if the takeoff for the fuel return is before the fuel flow sender, so the one sender is then measuring the total fuel drawn by the carb(s). Hope you understand that, would be better with a diagram. What engine is it intended for?

    It is for a 912 UL 80HP

I found the below diagram. So in the below diagram, where would the return line sit between and the sensor? I am guessing the sensor is somewhere before the the elec fuel pump and the return line comes in inbetween the fuel pump and sensor?

  7. Hi All,

I have just purchased a recreation aircraft, and I was thinking about putting a fuel flow instrument in, that was until I saw how much the fuel flow sensors cost!!!.

Is there any recommendations / thoughts around this, and if anyone knows where to get them a lot cheaper than $325!! (I need to get 2 sensors)

I was thinking about the MGL Infinity one

    Infinity

  8. Gday. Does anyone own or know of an x- air in or near Adelaide. I would like to have a look and get some into on the aircraft and if possible be taken for a fly. Happy to pay for running costs of course. Thanks Lyndon

I heard someone at Gawler has or maybe had one.

  9. Since there's no local agent (as far as I know) you need to buy direct. But for me the process was easy. It came by post. I think I had to pay some tax at the Post Office to take delivery.Anyway, they're a good company to deal with. The guy I'm in contact with is Ales Krajinc.

I believe if you buy Horis now (either 57mm or 80mm) it incorporates the DG compass rose. And if you want the electronic compass module (the Magu), it's an extra. As I said, the only use I can see of it is to get Winds/Aloft. But I guess that it's worth it for that. Best check with Ales to make sure these new features are implemented and ready to go. I think they are - or very soon will be.

Installation (which I had done by an L2) was very straightforward. They supply the T-pieces you need to tap into your existing pitot/static system. It also comes with a remote mountable gps aerial and an OAT probe. It needs a notch cut out of the round for the knob at the bottom left - similar to what's needed for an altimeter.

    Thanks for the info

  10. It has been suggested to me that if my proposal had been endorsed by the RAAus, it would have been harder to sweep aside.Another idea, suggested on another topic on this forum, is that VFR safety corridors through what is now unnecessary controlled airspace be argued for repeatedly over the years.

Many of us can remember how flights to Tasmania had to be done under 5,000 ft. This was an example of the safety regulator acting contrary to safety for reasons of control, but it was overcome after years of work. I reckon the battle should be an ongoing one.

Agree with you Bruce, have you spoken to RA Aus yet? When you do, would be good to know their feedback.
